How can apnea make it hard to drive. Sleep apnea is an involuntary stopping of breathing while asleep. It has no affect while you're awake. Now Narcolepsy could cause a problem while driving.

It might have something to do with the fact that some one with sleep apnea doesn't enjoy the restful sleep most of us do. Because though they are unaware of it they do wake up for an instant when they stop breathing disrupting, and often preventing REM sleep (when we dream) which is escential for you to be fully rested. I'm not a doctor so I don't know everything about it just what my dad has told me since he has sleep apnea. Though oddly enough he drives tractor trailer for the US Govt on an army base here in MD, and has for most of his adult life w/ sleep apnea. Must just be a law in Nevada. Probably something like if you have any kind of sleep disorder we will not issue you a driver's liscense.

The closest I come... is wife's 01 Honda Civic EX. I have really thought about trading it in for a Mustang. The only problem is, the Honda will last 2-3x longer, it will cost 10k more to upgrade (the 01 has been paid off for years), and for what???? It's only got 75k on the car, and the Honda's don't even get a timing belt until 100k. I hate being older and more responsible.

My other vehicles...

03 Honda Odyssey... nope (but has an autobot emblem anyways... wth not)

68 Mustang... nope (sorry, pony emblem overpowers the TF emblem here)

Tramp: Rodimus VTS is on the right track about how sleep apnoeia effects driving. What happens when you have sleep apnoeia is that the restricting breathing also means that you're not getting a decent supply of oxygen to the brain. This in turn makes you very tired and sleepy when you're awake, which in turn effects your driving because you're _always_ fatigued. You can get an early night's sleep and sleep in, but when you wake up you still feel tired; it's not the quantity of sleep but the quality, and people who suffer from untreated sleep apnoeia have very poor quality sleep and thus should not be permitted to drive. This doesn't mean that having sleep apnoeia means that you can never drive though, but what it does mean is that you need some form of treatment, such as surgery (e.g.: reducing the size of one's adnoids) or sleeping with a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine, which forces your airways to open up, thus allowing you to breathe properly in your sleep. In NSW you are not permitted to drive if you have untreated sleep apnoeia.

Getting back on topic, I don't drive a Transformer... but I imagine if I ever did then this might happen:

:D

umm...i meant to mention this sooner...but i drive a datsun 280Z painted like anime bluestreak with ttops and all...with the autobot symbols in the correct spots...been thinking about painting him into prowl seeing as where i live its legal to paint your car like a cop car as long as you dont drive around pretending to be a cop...lightbar and all..

Yeah, years ago someone brought a custom Datsun Prowl w/ strobe light bar to a BotCon Europe. It had to be towed to and from the convention as the car was obviously not street legal. :)
