Bay: "There will never be an extended edition" of Transformers

Recommended Posts

I still don´t think it´s Bay´s decision!! It is a matter of Marketing Sell all the DVD´s now... one year from Now ¨TRANSFORMERS EXTENDED VERSION DVD¨ one year later ¨TRANSFORMERS MICHAEL BAY´S DIRECTOR CUT EXTENDED EDITION¨... I would say that is more of a Pramount and Dreamworks decision rather than Bay´s...

Regards,

Roberto

Well, Bay was one of the producers, his contract could have been written so that he has sole discrection over the production of any "Extended Editions" - look at the Wachowski brothers, no extended versions of any of the Matrix movies for similar reasons.

Probably you are right... Still the Matrix SUCKED who would want to see extended version of that!! LOL!!

Regards,

Roberto

Bay's contract guarantees him final cut of his films, so the film we saw in theaters IS the director's cut, and by extension, so is the film coming out on DVD the first time around.

That also means that the added footage into the IMAX cut is probably footage Bay was unhappy with in the first place and, since he has final cut power, wanted removed from the film in the first place.

IMAX getting a new cut of the film is probably something that the studio/IMAX people were really pushing for marketing purposes and Bay is going along with it either because there's a bigger paycheck in it to recut the film for IMAX (and I wouldn't blame him) and/or the IMAX exhibition of the film would count as some sort of loophole in his contract...but, Bay being Bay, don't expect to see anymore robots or action this Friday than you did before. Bay doesn't cut stuff like that.

jmo, it's too early for bay to be saying "never ever". personally i'd like to have the original r rated cut, and i'm sure if demand gets up or they get desperate we'll see a director's cut release, i'm banking on a few release dates myself, it'll likely be released around the time the second movie hits theaters and it'll have a free movie ticket in it, but yea it'd be nice for adults to be able to have the version that wasn't watered down to appease the rating board nazi's. money speaks louder than most anything in todays world.

There never was an "R" rated cut.

The story about the Transformers "R" rated cut came from Shia who mistakenly said Transformers and meant Disturbia...Disturbia got an "R" rating and Spielberg went to the MPAA and got the rating changed without any cuts to that movie. This was all confirmed by Nelson from Michael Bay's website a while ago.

Well.

I'll buy it.

But I won't be happy about it :danmit

Yeahyeah, blahblah.

Go watch it again and start TF2, mister Bay. 2 minutes would be nice, but another 135 would be better.

Or it could just not really matter that much.

:tflaugh

indeed

Optimus: Have you found the glasses yet?

Sam: No, not yet.

Optimus: We really need those glasses.

Sam: I know, I know.

Optimus: They're important, you know.

Sam: I'm looking everywhere for them!

Optimus: Have you tried the dresser drawer?

Sam: It's empty.

Optimus: How about your nightstand?

Sam: Nothing but some old keys.

Optimus: How about between the matresses? I always forget something in there.

Sam: Nothing but some, uh, tissues.

.

.

.

You get the idea.

Well.

I'll buy it.

But I won't be happy about it :danmit

Well, I'll buy it, and I will be happy about it! I plan to watch the whole thing in slow-mo. See you all next Spring...

And if Bay ends up pulling a Lucas and releases different versions of the same movie a thousand times in different formats, then dammit, I'll buy those too (like I did w/ SW)- and be happy! (I loved the movie, tell much?)

The thing is, anything we'd *want* to see in an extended cut would be stuff involving robots, which would mean that ILM would have to be re-hired to go back and create CGI effects for those scenes.

I say this not knowing what's going to be in the IMAX cut, of course.... if there's something like Prime killing Barricade in that version, my angst will be mighty.

Why does everyone assume that the Imax stuff is some sort of afterthought.

Maybe ILM wont have to be rehired at all.

Maybe the producers directors and marketers planned ahead and stuff and asked ILM to create footage that they knew would only be used in a certain venue.

LOTS of dvd/special venue content is planned out well in advance of a trad. theatrical release.
