Transformers certainly CAN transform into anything.

 

Frenzy and Megatron have transformed into Porsche sports cars in the past - the Beast Wars Transformers originally had vehicular modes (re: Dawn of Futures Past) and Botanica was amongst a Cybertronian expeditionary mission who took on PLANTS as alt modes! :)
