Unhappy Transformers Fans Threatened Bay's Life

Recommended Posts

"I got the impression that the fans wanted me, literally, to take these cartoons and blow 'em up and it would've been clearly the equivalent of Ghostbusters. It just wouldn't work"

Wait... Ghostbusters was good. Really good.

Uh oh....

He was talking about the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man. The quote doesn't have the full blurb.

He's right, it was just a giant foam suit with limited movement, like MMPR. Movie designs like that wouldn't work in Bay's film, or anyone's film for that matter.

Taking G1 characters and turning them into 3-D for the movie just wouldn't work. In fact, it hurts my brain to try and imagine it.

My guess is they'd look and move like the TF Animated designs that we've just seen.

I also agree about not using the G1 designs for the movie. I'm a huge fan of G1 but also moderate fans in the other lines as well so I would fall in with the Geewunners. I'm excited about the movie and I love the character designs and have enough sense to not only seperate G1 from the movie, but realize that it's 2007 and for a priduction movie, we really needed realistic( as far as assumed alien designs would go) robots and not subspace or anything else.

I don't see it as ruinning anyone's childhood, just a different take. If that was the case, start booing Heroes or Cybertron or Armada. Hell, look at the storm that brewed over Truck not Monkey. People need to get a life and welcome change.

*ugh* to those who threaten people over a movie

those Protectobots deserve to get a Powerglideing spanking.

The threats would be a lot more discerning if you knew they weren't coming from 32 year old virgins living with their mums. And considering BM inspired death threats and I loved that, my hopes for the movie have actually been lifted.

I know what I say when anyone e-threatens me: bringit.gif

I hope Bay did the same to these dorks.

Who ever did this can kiss my ass and rot in hell kthnx.

what kind of threat can a fanboy make anyways.

I don't see how cutting on Ghostbusters, a successful film both business-wise and audience reaction-wise, is going to gain Michael Bay any credibility.

"More complex" does not mean completely redesigned. I agree; they needed to be more complex than they appeared in the cartoon. They even need to be more complex than the G1 toys....and the BW, RID, and Unicron Trilogy toys. But they did NOT need to be redesigned from the ground up.

It's fine if people like these designs, but don't pretend that they exist because making something 1000x closer to the originals wasn't possible. Look at Starscream. The only way to guess that is Starscream is by the fact that he turns into a jet and by the fact that Starscream would probably be included in a live action transformers movie.

They could have made him look at least somewhat similar in some way to any previously-existing Starscream design but did not. This isn't an issue of "it's not G1." This is an issue of the fact that they went with a completely new design aesthetic that a lot of us don't like.

So please, don't try to rationalize by saying that anything else just wasn't possible.

jeez...here's the full burb.

"I got the impression that the fans wanted me, literally, to take these cartoons and blow 'em up and it would've been clearly the equivalent of Ghostbusters. It just wouldn't work. The robots needed to be much more complex."

I don't see how a Marshmallow man can be complex.

As for the case of GB, it did work and it worked good. Maybe Bay meant to rip on Star Wars or Star Trek? C3-PO and R2-D2 were quite lame and those communicators in Star Trek...come on, those could have been so more complexed. Shame on GL and GR.

...There's something strange in your neighborhood, who ya call?...

ghostbusters was a comedy, the stay puft marshmellow man looked the way he did for a reason. even as a kid i thought it was hilarious that everybody was just running away from this cute huge puffy white thing and i understood why it looked the way it did and why it was a comedy and not a serious movie. just name a transformers continuity that wouldn't look like CG power rangers on the big screen. EVEN ALTERNATORS WOULD LOOK LIKE A MEGAZORD. i thought the exact same way you did at first until i thought things through and watched how they moved and then looked at the rest of my tfs and tried to picture them moving that way and i just couldn't. i even went back and watched a few eps of galaxy force and even they move sorta chunky like and not very fluid at all.
