BotCon '07 Games of Deception Set Preview: Dirge

People like me? And I mean c'mon, I am not going to go to the Boss and say "can I have a spreadsheet of every single factor that goes into the cost of producing the convention, the toys and the club." C'mon, be realistic. Do other companies explain how every aspect of their business works? Of course not. I am a link to FP and am here to answer what I can and what needs to be. But you want to dissect it all down and try to figure it all out and I am telling you it is not that simple. The best way to understand? Start up a business and then you will see each and every factor that goes into running it.

Well, you act like you know so damn much, I thought maybe you were more than a glorified gofer. But you can't even give ballpark figures and you still won't answer the direct questions. Do you really know what's going on, or are you just the guy they sent to "stir the pot"?

Seriously, how important is it to know these numbers? It doesn't change anything and you're going to continue feeling "ripped off" no matter what he says.

Besides, it's not like businesses just hand out numbers like that anyway. What's it going to take to satisfy you, a copy of the payroll of the people working in the factory to put these things together, an invoice for plastics, paints and other materials used in the toys and and the bill for what the shipping costs to get the over here?

Also, you have to consider the money to pay for the convention, the space they use and their guests have to come from somewhere.

Typical response. Why can't people like you ever just tell the truth and get it over with? Seriously, this whole "You're gonna love what we're doing BUT I can't tell you yet because I like keeping secrets" crap gets really old really fast, and to make the tired "It's really expensive--can't tell you just HOW expensive--but it's way up there" excuse when people have, I think, a legitimate beef with the way you've done something is the mark of car salesmen and politicians, neither of which I like or respect.

Will Thrust be remolded or not?

If yes, is he the only one getting a remold?

If he is getting remolded, and he's NOT the only one, why waste those dollars on characters nobody gives a damn about instead of a unique, well-known one?

If you could just answer these questions I, for one, would be satisfied and my decision to buy or not buy would be an easy one. I think others share that view.

Excellent questions. I'm very curious about the answers to these.

C16 is on to it, there are SO many factors

And you do us a disservice in assuming we're too dumb to understand if you lay it out for us.

:pfx

You know what, I think you keep missing the core point. These are convention toys, meant primarily for convention attendees, part of an overall package. The price is based and established on that. And as has been debated many times, the most fair way we have come up with is to offer the sets to non-attendees at the same price as attending since it is the attendees who make the trip and incure the added expenses.

Yeah, after all, if the non attendee package was cheaper, people would have less incentive to go to the con, and they lose money.

I did give you ballpark figures, the figures that have been told before. If you check the club site, check the club magazine you will see my role, I do Editorial and PR duties plus I consult on the toys and so on.

The rest of the figures will be revealed very soon.

And comments like "nobody else gives a damn about" makes it sound like your opinion is the opinion of everyone. I think people will be stoked about what they see once all 5 have been revealed. Thanks everyone!

It's important to ME. And I don't think I'm the only one; there's 15 pages here to prove that. Besides, do you make a big-ticket purchase without trying to get some info on the product beforehand? Would you buy a new car without trying to get the invoice price? Do you regularly drop over $300 on products you've never seen and know very little about?

What would satisfy me is straight answers on which characters, if any, are getting remolds, and if it's more than one and it's such an expensive process why the effort is wasted on non-starter characters. And yes, I'd like to know how much, generally, it's costing for remolding. It's being used as an excuse for something and I want that excuse backed up by facts. I don't give two Blots if it doesn't change the price of the set or the fact Dirge gets no remold. But it is a factor in my decision to buy. I'm a responsible, informed consumer.

If you went to a car dealership asking the questions you're asking here, they'd laugh at you.

In other words, "F*CK YOU." And it ain't just my opinion bucko, like I said, there's 15 pages here of people who want answers. But you wanna play your little game.

Would you get off my Powerglideing back? Seriously, I don't need this. This was between me and P@BC. Where do you get off playing the harpy?

No matter how many factors there are, at some point, cost ends and profit begins. Maybe it costs $45 to make a figure. Maybe the cost of the convention is too great and you need to find some extra dough so you jack up the figure cost. I don't think your trying to make a secret fortune and sneek off to the bahamas or somthin. But I do think if the convention costs more, wich is tough to believe cuz its growing, what shoud be done to offset that cost is charge more for the Con. Not the toys. If the con is more expensive to run, it should be more expensive to go to. You get what you pay for. But if you're trying to offset that cost with an unreasonable markup on the exclusives of course people are gonna be pissed.

I don't know exactly what the rational is. I'm asking. But if the production cost of the toys is not in some kind of line with the price, it's a bad idea, whether its con cost or rampent profit. If the cost is reasonable, there is no problem.

(and everyone who took philosopy 101, can just chill on the "what is reasonable?" moaning. Reasonable may not be the same to every one, but I bet if we had a number we'd all have pretty comprable ranges.)
