Old fasioned scale thing for G1 on Unicron

Recommended Posts

Wow, this is some thread :eek

Prime Idiot, your stuff about Cybertron and Unicron being the size of Saturn is damn scary. In fact, I seriously hope that we see something on that scale worked into the TF movies at some point. Unicron in a live action movie would be the ultimate fan spooge :thumb

X-Bob, go mod the TF wiki and quit being a jerk. People are allowed to have their own ideas and theories about TF culture. Not everything must be canonical. I actually thought that this thread kicked a$$ until you came in and posted that sheet like it was the end all argument killer. It's not. People have imaginations and are allowed to use them. Unicron and Cybertron the size of Saturn? Sounds awesome to me. It doesn't have to be canon to be a cool idea.

Just because something is a good Idea doesn't make it the right answer.

And there really IS no right answer here, X-Bob. What they show and what they say contradicts (the size sheet you showed, and his actual actions in the movie). So stuff it.

X-Bob, cool pics either way. Like the big one of Unicron and an ish-earth, as that does actually show the scale of unicron to earth by the old references (yes I did too notice the out-of-scale ships, ohh well not even in comics can it be gotten right).

Oddly enough I also liked the one of him standing on Cybertron.

All good stuff :D

Keep it coming folks

The size sheet is the correct answer for the movie, everything else is an error

Hmmm, question.

I cannot remember if the G1 comics refered to the size of Unicron per say, but if I go by the basis that Primus dumped himself and Unicron into equal sized lumps of rock then add to that issue #1 (1984) and it refers to a saturn sized world then that's the only basis I can go on (missing out so much on theories of acreation of stelar bodies).

Bob, yes it's correct for the continuety of the cartoons but not the "de-facto" for the comics (admittedly I'm still stuck with my head in G1, not Armarda/Energon).

Oh this is a bugger trying to get a definative answer...

...mind you if you wish to refer to the scale in the movie again and that planet he munches to start with, the animation scale of the planet (while being munched...need a vid cap of the bit where you can see lava etc) gives the impression that unicron is A LOT bigger that the scale template would suggest.

Got bored, thought about scale, did a doodle.

:tflaugh Until x-bob overrides this with the official canonical explanation, I'm henceforth going to assume that that's unicron's actual method of interstellar propultion.

Well as long as he doesn't go to The M class planet in my gallery he should be able to fly around quite quick :D

There's are 4 scenes in the movie that contradict the picture of Unicron standing on Cybertron.

1) When Unicron is floating towards Cybertron, we see a full body shot of Unicron and Cybertron.

2) When Unicron first attacks Cybertron, his upper body is exposed to swipe his arm down and it's not in a curved posistion.

3) When the Decepticons are flying out to attack him, it again shows the full size of Unicron and Cybertron.

4) When Hot Rod and Co. fly towards him, it shows Unicron standing almost straight to be as long as Cybertron.

Still a great picture with dramatic posing. That should be a cold cast statue. And real looking too. Not too cartoony.

I think the simple problem is that Unicron's robot mode had to be shrunk down so the movie could feature some dramatic scenes of him tearing-up Cybertron and swatting away the tf's like they were flies. It would have been difficult to make those scenes if Unicron's robot mode remained in scale to his planet mode.

2 things we know from the comics:

1/ Cybertron is suggested as being a giant sized planet compared to Earth.

2/ Cybertron and Unicron were forged from asteroids. And although the largest asteroid we've ever discovered in our own Solar System is about 1000km in diameter...

Here's an image of Earth and other planets in the Solar System compared to the Sun. As you can see, it totally dwarfs all the planets.

And here is an image of our Sun (Sole) being dwarfed by the largest star we've yet to discover, LBV 1806-20. Now just imagine the kinds of planets and asteroids that could orbit a sucker that size... suddenly a "little asteroid" the size of Jupiter doesn't sound so ridiculous. ;)

Agent 539 made an excellent point there with Unicron's robot mode size changing during the movie.

Not really... just write the scenes better where you keep Unicron's massive size in mind. The comics did a better of this than the movie - in US#75 we see Unicron holding Transformers between the tips of his fingernails rather than with fingertips - even impaling poor old Brainstorm with the "nail" of his pinky beforing using his teeth to pick him off said fingernail. So to him, the TFs were like this tiny morsels of food that you'd get caught in your fingernails and pick off between your teeth.
