Old fasioned scale thing for G1 on Unicron

Recommended Posts

Unicron is not solid with a rotating nickel-iron core to create the gravitational efforts of a real planet. He does however have great construction and room for a food court.

Thought mass and gravity were linked, more mass greater the pull. Hmm, now what would you call the food court I wonder? :tflaugh

Hmm "Unicrons - Franchised since forever I OWN YOU ALL AHAHAHAHAHA"

Or "Forget Planet Rock, Forget Planet Hollywood...I've eaten them! AHAHAHA".."Unicrons, you know you have no choice"

Unicron not being solid matters; the rotating core does not. (That generate earth's magnetic field and poles, not its gravity. If you're standing on unicron, whether your compass works or not is the least of your problems.)

The fact that unicron is largely hollow means that he'll have less gravity than if he weren't. If he's saturn-sized, of course, he'd have to be as hollow as a soap bubble or he'd be sucking the planets out of their solar orbits as he passed by. Forget being eaten, Earth would be doomed if Unicron even approached it.

Even at the size of a small moon (which is around the size the Death Star was as well), Unicron's gravity would begin to have an effect as he got close enough to sink his teeth in. It would probably only have the effect of a strong tide, though; the planet under us is more massive than the planet above us so we wouldn't fly out to meet him. (He might collect some of the outer atmosphere though.) On presumes the 'sucking things into his maw' effect we say in the movie was a deliberate effort on Unicron's part.

Personally I prefer the smaller Unicron; I think you'd get a better scene when a giant robot a hundred kilometers high sets foot on the planet, fighing robots sized like flies against it and generally tearing up the place, as opposed to the scene where a massive shadow blotts out all the stars in an entire hemisphere, then sucks away the atmosphere, and then transforms and dimissively crushes the earth between two fingers (just before being destroyed by a matrix that is proportionally the size of a microbe to it). I just think there'd be more drama in the first version.

There's goes fantasy.

This picture might be relevant to the conversation, keep in mind this picture definitely features and alternate Universe we have never seen before, as Unicron has never destroyed Earth in any known continuity.

And then there's this picture created by David Willis that uses the curvature of Cybertron in a screen shot in order to extrapolate the relative sizes of Robot-mode Unicorn and Cybertron

Hehehe. Any arguments and reasoning, from any body of astronomical and planetary sciences or "size comparisons", can always be used to reach multiple contradictory, absurd, or impossible conclusions.

Wow, this is some thread :eek

Prime Idiot, your stuff about Cybertron and Unicron being the size of Saturn is damn scary. In fact, I seriously hope that we see something on that scale worked into the TF movies at some point. Unicron in a live action movie would be the ultimate fan spooge :thumb

X-Bob, go mod the TF wiki and quit being a jerk. People are allowed to have their own ideas and theories about TF culture. Not everything must be canonical. I actually thought that this thread kicked a$$ until you came in and posted that sheet like it was the end all argument killer. It's not. People have imaginations and are allowed to use them. Unicron and Cybertron the size of Saturn? Sounds awesome to me. It doesn't have to be canon to be a cool idea.

Just because something is a good Idea doesn't make it the right answer.

Ultimately, I'd say just find whatever comfortably suspends your disbelief and go with it. Unless you really wanna spend all that time debating mass, density, camera angles, gravitational forces, nickel cores, and chandrasekhar limits. :)

That's not the earth, and that planet is insanely out of scale considering you can see spacecraft (or possibly TF's) swarming and firing upon him.

Oh yea, I guess it's just some weird planetoid that has an atmosphere and water, either that or that's a huge space ship.
