What do you think about a TF Alternator CGI series?

Recommended Posts

Okay, my post before was a bit curt, so I'll elaborate and tear apart the one that started the topic!

I'm new here so I'm not sure if you like to keep things positive or if you just come across that way so I'll say this. You're not as intelligent as you think you are so don't attempt to further translate what I say because you're wrong and you come across as a jack***. Nuff said.

the movie Transformers are no less Transformers than other car to robot toy sold by Hasbro in the last 20 years.
My topic wasn't limited to what TOYS Hasbro has sold over the last 20 years. A majority of the Transformers, G1 cartoon included have human likenesses. Why does it matter? Just look at the new leaked image of "Movie Megatron." Really, I hope someone is pulling our leg on this one because his mugshot looks like a cross between a creature from the movie Alien and a sphincter or something that comes out of one. Battle mode or not, he'll convey about as much expression as Johnny 5 from the movie Short Curcuit did in the 80's. You won't know whether he's angry or if he just needs some Preparation H.

And I was saying an equal amount AREN'T "human-like". Brawn has clamps and a black visor on a featureless face! Shockwave's face is a SQUARE with single circle in it! G2 Jetfire's face is a glowing T!

Optimus Prime sure can convey a lot of emotion, and he doesn't even have a mouth. Jazz could convey a lot of emotion, and he lacked EYES, the most important part in doing so!

I'm not saying you can't have an opinion, but just come out and say you hate the movie designs instead of hiding behind shallow attempts to not sound bitter about them.

All "human-like" means is "Head on top of a torso, two arms, two legs, bipedal and walks erect." Megatron has that. Some transformers have not.

A CGI series more than likely wouldn't happen but it would definitely kick major a**. I could be happy with an Alternator comic book as a second choice. I'd definitely be all for a Classics cartoon series. Especially a show that doesn't consist of kids or skantilly-clad lolitas making friends with Transformers! LMAO!!! At least it would ensure that the Classic's line would be more than just a "filler."

As for the reasons behind the movie Transformers, I get it. They were too blocky. This I know, but as Timshinn73 has already shown and proved to many of us again and again, these movie designs are capable of having recognizable Transformer faces. I think Movie Prime looks reasonably close to being a Prime but Sphinctatron and Makesmewannascream look horrible.

Movie Megatron is "Human like", hell all of them except Scorpanok of "Human like". Personally I like the movie TFs so far. I'm not looking at movie ratchet and thinking, "This is G1 Ratchet" I'm thinking "This is movie Ratchet". Its a new version of TFs. Jsut like Energon Prime isn't G1 Prime, Movie Prime isn't G1 Prime either, and neither are the rest of the characters. They may share some personality traits, but at the end of the day they are new incarnations of the characters. If you go into this movie wanting G1 then your gonna be disappointed. If you go in wanting a movie about big transforming robots in an epic battle with humans caught in the middle, then so far it looks like it could be decent.

And lets be honest, most of the original Transformers really didn't have "Human" faces either. Ratchet and Ironhide didn't even have heads. Prime has the face plate that leaves only the eyes showing as do many other G1 bots. Hell, even Bumblebee didn't have a face on the original toy, he shared the face plate thing.

As for the Cartoon having Human likeness, thats because its a cartoon. They want to make it easier for kids to relate to them. And a human face makes the characters easier to connect to.

On the topic of Alternators in general though. I don't like them. Never have, so no I wouldn't want to see a show or movie about them, nor do i want the line to continue. However I know many like it so if it did continue I jsut wouldn't buy it.

Nope, Alternators had its time in the spotlight.

Started out well enough, but cost wise and the fact that its all freaking cars made it go stale for me after Hound.

I have never seen a child want or buy an alternator, only collectors.

Bring on the movie and the Heroes media and toys plz.

The real car licensing of Alternators will forever keep it from being chronicled in any medium outside the on-its-death-bed toyline. No online petition will cut through the red tape that would be required for all those companies to sign off on a comic or TV show.

After the movie, we get Transformers: Heroes, which will probably draw heavily from the movie for inspiration, and run two or three seasons before the movie sequel comes out and the cycle starts again.

Alternators are dead. Long live the Movie!

i think what killed it for me was they never got any big alternator car makes like ferrari or aston... id love a gto & dbr9 transformer it would be worth alternator money...all i need now is my ford gt and that will be the end of it then for me... i want teh masterpiece guys but cant get them anywhere over here so will have to send off.... but them the did prime without trailer and then peopel were doing own..then magnus same thing..then screamer in thundercracker-esk blue which ya couldent transform for fear of breaking so would have to have 2 of them for each pose. they droped the ball on it if thyd gone for complete show looking and spent more time on all these things but like good old hasbro they just shrugged shoulders and said "meh"

All right most of this thread is downing the Alternators. Now I'll admit they have really gone downhill since the third or fourth wave but for the most part they are a really good line. I've got all but Nemi Prime, and Camshaft. It is correct though that the chances of them ever doing a cgi cartoon of the Alternators is (extremely unlikely...um scratch that) never gonna happen. Heck if they were going to base a cartoon on any existing line it'd be Classics which wouldn't even really be too hard. In fact I hope that after season 1 of TF Heros they look at the Classics series of figures and say you know what lets make them a show for the old schoolers. Once again chance of this happening probably nill but hey lets hope that Transformers the Movie is a box office hit and we see this genre continue for a very long time. Lets further more hope that though they are going to be done by the same studio that did Fosters, TF Heros won't come out looking like a lil kids version of South Park.

I agree with everything Terrorcon Blot's said so far.

First of all, the Alternators line is effectively finished. Why would Hasbro want to market a line that's finished? It's only effective to spend money funding a show in order to market a toy line that is currently in production and on sale. After all, that is fundamentally what all the shows are - toy advertisements. Hasbro's would just laugh at any suggestion on spending money on funding a show to market a toyline that is no longer in production - and if we're talking about CGI animation, it's a Blotload of money. Why do you think most Beast Wars Transformers were never shown in the show with only a limited handful of toys ever appearing? Guys like Snarl, Manterror, K-9, Wolfang, Retrax, Transquito, Polar Claw, Iguanus, Snapper, Insecticon, Prowl, Ramulus, Optimus Minor, Sonar, Stinkbomb, Spittor, Claw Jaw, Powerpinch, Jawbreaker, Magnaboss, Razorbeast, Injector, Bantor, Bonecrusher etc. all never appeared in the show because of the fact that CGI is a very, very, very expensive form of animation. Beast Wars made it worthwhile because the toys sold phenomenonally well - and again, the show was only in production while the toys were on sale. All TF series are only ever produced at the time that the corresponding toy line is on sale. To do otherwise just defeats the entire purpose of creating a TV series in order to market your toy product.

Secondly, we already have a story for Binaltech. Sure, it's a series of text stories, but as TB pointed out, this is a toy line aimed at older collectors rather than semi-illiterate infants.

Thirdly, a far more viable and realistic way to approach what you want to achieve is actually to write a letter to IDW and ask/petition them to make an Alternators comic book. IDW comics are aimed solely at collectors, which is why they'll not only make comics based on toylines no longer in production (e.g.: Beast Wars) but also based on toylines which never existed, such as their current G1 story arc which continues from DW's The War Within and establishes their whole new "Infiltration" continuity (which is also tied in with their Spotlight series etc). In fact, DW/IDW's designs have so far inspired HasTak to create -- for the first time ever (i.e.: this never happened in G1) -- the creation of Transformers toys based on original designs from the Transformers comics!! For example, the 15cm Titanium Series Optimus Prime is based on The War Within's Optimus Prime, and Classics Jetfire is clearly based on the Jetfire character we see in the DW/IDW comics.

So yeah, forget the show. A comic book is a far more realistic and likely outcome. So go email the editorial staff at IDW. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if IDW were already had an Alternators series in the back burner.

I'd personally like to see any Alternators story tie in with the Story of Binaltech. IDW could do it, as they demonstrated with the way that they wrote their Beast Wars comics lending elements from both the Canadian and Japanese BW series (with the Japanese BW series always intended as an expansion of the Canadian series anyway - don't argue with me on this one, X-BoB :P).

Thread translation: nobody's allowed to like what they like but everyone's allowed to bash what they don't like.

whatever.gif

I'm not sure if this thread is really about Alternators or the movie...

Hasbro is only going to invest in ONE Transformers cartoon at a time, for obvious reasons. Compare what was available in the Alternators line versus Armada or Energon or Cybertron. It can't compete at all with that. And it was never intended to. It was a niche market collectors' line, not a complete series that you could make a story out of. They never even made an Alternators Megatron. And is "Everyone's A Car!" really the best way for Hasbro to market one of their biggest brands?

But if this is really about movie angst, then... oy. I get so freaking sick of people complaining that a live action movie doesn't base its designs off of cartoons or toys. GEE I WONDER WHY THAT MIGHT BE, MAYBE BECAUSE CARTOONS AND TOYS AREN'T REAL AND STUFF
