One screwed up transformer

Recommended Posts

I don't post here much, so excuse my lack of etiquette.

Transformers, as I recall, are supposed to be "Robots in Disguise", right? Well, I think the reason most people view G1 and Beast Wars as the best lines, other than the nostalgia for G1, is that they were just that, robots in disguise. the majority of them looked like real world items, (cars, tapes, beasts) and also turned into robots. Where in the world do you see vehicles, beasts, and other items like you do in Armada? Or Energon? Or even G2? Sure, when the later eps. of G1 came out, after the movie, they went with that futuristic car look, and personally, I think that's where Hasbro went wrong. At least the colors weren't as bad as some of the Armada stuff, or even Universe line. Even in Beast Wars, towards the end, the went a little crazy with all of the transmetal stuff and fuzors. but at least Megatron looked like a dragon. Most of the Armada toys look like, I don't know, just ugly. Even the everyday cars in Armada don't look like the cars the Transformers are suppose to blend into. "Oh look, that car looks a Nissan. But that one? I think there's something wrong with it...it looks like a Hyundai on crack...." Yeah, way to blend in. I don't even want to talk about that mess of a figure they call Energon Omega Supreme.  :tfpuke It looks like Hasbro has a bunch of color blind chimps with the shakes coloring these things.

Yes, these toys are for children, but so were the G1 toys and Beast Wars and even RID. They were just made with better thinking and quality in mind. I think G2 went with the flash and cash over substance that eventually put the final nail in the coffin for the TF line of that era...or wait...was that the Action Masters...? Again, quick buck kills quality. It like saying the majority of pop music is comparable to Beethoven because it sold a ton or records. If it's crap, it's crap, regardless of how much money it makes. It just shows the majority of consumers are mindless drones willing to spend on whatever is popular, regardless of the obvious lack of quality...but I digress...

The real issue here is the G1 vs. everything else. I think G1 with Beast Wars, and most of the RID line bring out the true ideas behind the TF toy lines. All 3 of these lines were made with a great attention to quality and detail. I mean the toys, not the cartoons. Ha ha, some most of those were just funny on some of the things they did. Except for Beast Wars. I think that did alot for the TF mythos. That's  my opinion, and I'm sticking to it....

You talk like you understand the entire design and liscensing process, but you don't. Armada and Energon are the best toyline and the most successful, so just get over it. Your G1 is TIRED. Let it pass already. It's insulting, and your opinions are also insulting to Hasbro's employees who invest pretty much their LIFE in these projects.

Best toylines and most succesful? According to who? Do you have actual numbers to back that up? I mean, obviously you've done the necessary research to make that statement. I wasn't talking about sales figures homie, All I said was becuase something sells well, doesn't mean it isn't crap. I'm sure G1 sold well, and I'm sure people hated that line too. I was just trying to give an explanation on why the nostolgia with G1 carries on. I'm also assuming you understand the whole design and licensing process too then? If I'm so ignorant, why not educate people instead of insult. Maybe to you, G1 is tired. Maybe to alot of people. To alot of people, however, it's not. Which why Hasbro, and Takara did the whole re-issue line. Perhaps you're the one who needs to understand more of what's going on. I also said it was my opinion, you don't have to agree with it, and neither does anyone else. That's why it called an opinion. Oh, and here's a little secret, I OWN every Armada, so far Energon, Beast War, and Re-issue so far. Even if I may not agree with some of the designs. I'm a completist at heart. I'm a TF fan at heart. I really wanted to insult them, I wouldn't buy the toys. I'm allowed to disagree with things, just like you are. However, there are better ways to make an argument then just making some half assed assumption about things.

G1 gave hasbro the chance to experiment and introduce ome of the best elements in today's toys.  You know for example

Headmasters - (E-Omega Supreme, Armada Overload)

Targetmasters - (Minicons)

Powermasters - (again Minicons)

Gestalts - (Powerlinx)

Factions(Insecticons, Protectobots,etc.)

Micromasters - (Once again the Minicons)

Beast modes - G1 brought first the beast modes, BW improved them.

Actionmasters - (Kicker, atransformers toy that does not transform.)

Pretenders..and the list colud go on.

We can see these concepts in today's toys.  Instead of creating new ideas they are recycling older concepts, only add a couple gimmicks, better articulation and thats it.

So you see, thre's alot of G1 influence in todays generation of transformers, and it go on and on.

Some of these are *really* clutching at straws, man...

Headmasters - (E-Omega Supreme, Armada Overload)

Given.

Targetmasters - (Minicons)

Cept The Air Military and Emergency teams, dont, yanno... suck. Whoo! I fold in half and shoot lasers from my nono! :nuts

Powermasters - (again Minicons)

Stretch. I'll grant it due to Blurr's transformation

Gestalts - (Powerlinx)

See also: Virtually any mecha anime since the 70s.

Factions(Insecticons, Protectobots,etc.)

They're subgroups. Only Autobot and Decepticon are factions. However, nitpicking aside... none of the groups today are anywhere near so "focused".

Micromasters - (Once again the Minicons)

Granted.

Beast modes - G1 brought first the beast modes, BW improved them.

Stretch. The G1 animals were definately robotic... BW was all about realistic looking, and then cybernetic, beasts.

Actionmasters - (Kicker, atransformers toy that does not transform.)

.... just no. Not even close. The only Hasbro product Kicker is close to is a GI Joe or an SW figure. He's a human, not a TF that doesn't transform.

Pretenders..and the list colud go on.

And where are there Pretenders in any modern TF series?

Ok, I stand corrected.

There are some concepts that may "correlate" as there are others that may never return(like the Pretenders). The point im trying to clarify is that some concepts in transformers "come and go".

And Im not trying to undermine the new toys at all. Its good to see new ideas and concepts. I only wish to see some of the originals developed, like upgraded versions, since we are getting to some extent that in Energon.

Powermasters - I was refering to the interaction or power-up(boost) that minicons give to transformers, similar to what the G1 powermasters were.

Factions/subgroups - I like to think that G1 terrorcons evolved into E-Terrorcons, but that's another story.

gestalts - I know its a very old idea, but its good to see it's beencarried on to the new lines, althought a new 5 robot combiner in Energon would be a good thing.

Bodycount is a troll, don't feed him.

And another thing I'm seeing here in this post is just a load of message board newbs stroking G1's stuff. I understand that you're new here and you're completely uneducated on the fandom and new products because you're pissed that you aren't 9 anymore, but give it a rest. We don't care what you like, and we don't care to hear you talk about how crappy everything is because its not what you want.

Find a new opinion.

Hold up...I'm a newb? Just because I don't post here, doesn't mean I don't come here and many of the other message boards for years. Besides, you're a member since March 04, and I'm a member since April 04. So you have that much more experience than me? By what? A month? Honestly....

If anyone seems pissed, it's you. At least I'm letting people have their opinions. I'm not "stroking" anyones stuff. Like I said, I may be new to this board, but not to the fandom. I've owned a majority of the original toys, and own a great majority of the new stuff. Not the exclusives, since I have yet to go to a convention. Whether I like them or not, I have hands on with the products, new and old, so in MY OPINION, I like the G1, BW, and RID stuff better. To me, they just seemed more disguised than the Energon, Armada, and G2 items, and the post movie G1 toys. Color wise, they seem more uniform and more pleasing to the eyes.

Hey, you don't have to care, but this is a message board for opinions. That's why I joined, and why you joined. At least I can back up my OPINION. This "We don't care..." Who is this we? It just seems to be just you speaking, and you seem to be doing a fine job by yourself of coming off as very unintelligent.

G1 was a starting point, from which the whole line developed into what we have today. Great toys, articulation, gimmicks(althought im not particularily high on gimmicks).

Lets just enjoy what we do, doesnt matter if tis G1 or Energon, its still Transformers.

Oh and here's a concept that has not been used in a long time, well in terms of creating a new toy and not remolds/repaints..

Transformers Cities - metroplex/Fmax.

Unicron is a planet, its another class in itself.

Yeah, I kind of figured that. I'm done with him. Anywho, good topic!

From ugly G2 toys to blowing off G1 toys and New toys.

can anyone explain how this happened?

No matter how ugly some of the colors were, if it weren't for Gen2 I wouldn't have Superion or Grimlock. Same thing now with Universe and Bruticus.

Look, you g1 haters probably haven't actually ever played with G1 toys properly. You complain about them being bricks but you obviously have NO imagination. Toys used to be things used to help your imagination get going, like if you played with G1 Prime, it didn't matter about his legs not moving or his weird proportions, he was still the action hero you saw on tv because as soon as a good game got going then it was just like the show. You didn't need 7000 Points of articulation to see a living breathing character in front of you. These days everything is done for you with all the lights and sounds and imagination takes a backseat. Sure, I really love my new tfs but I love my G1s just as much. if it wasn't for G1 you wouldn't have a Prime to whine about every season or a new toy to love because it is a homage.Guess what? None of the characters you respect todaywould be here without the G1 toys. If you don't like the toys you should still respect them . Dissing G1 is like calling your Grandpa crap for not being as flexible as you are. I respect BW for bringing life back into the line and adding new levels of detail, even though by and large the toys sucked ass.

This is my first post on this board and I just wanted to put my 2 cents in on G1 vs Everything else. I think that all the Transformer lines have their good points and their bad points. Personally, I love G1 from the nostalga perspective. But honestly, at least half of the toys and half of the TV shows are lame. I mean, when I was a kid it was the best thing ever but now that im 25 its just an 80's kids show that I loved as a kid. And that is what the show was meant for; selling toys to kids. With the exception of maybe Alternators and Re-issues, every Transformers toy line is targeted at kids. The only Transformers I have in my collection are G1 toys and I actually only have 23. They are the ones that hold the most sentimental value to me and ones that I always wanted but never had the chance to purchase them. The point im trying to make is we all follow Transformers for our own personal reasons. No particular line is any better or any worse than the other. Its all in what you like and what you believe in (now, and when you were a kid). I love G1 the most because of experiences from my childhood, but I would hope that everyone follows Tranformers for their own reasons and not because someone says this is better than that.
