age and collecting

Man, my favorite was at TRU.

I picked up Classics bumble bee, starscream, and astrotrain.

the cashier looked at me and smiled.

I had been there the previous day and nabbed classics Prime, cybertron armorhide, and classics rodimus.

the cashier said ,"at this rate, youll havee all the transfromers!"

I just smiled and said, "thats the idea!"

I paid and left.

P.S.

I'm 24.

Was that the TRU in Indep? If so then I think that my story from TRU involves the same lady. I am pretty sure that you had mentioned on the boards that the Classics were in Indep, so I went and bought SS and that is when she mentioned that they were selling like mad. She was really rather nice. Anyway, an interesting little coincidence I think.

yeah, kind of an older lady with light colored hair.

she is very collector freindly.

she told me that some guys had hid some of the 07 hot wheels first editions in the baby toys section, and sure enough, there were at least 7 of the cars I didnt have.

hmmmm, wonder why she watched him? that makes me suspecious.... i wonder if the employees ever get pissed off when they see people hide stuff? i do all the time :tftongue i change my spots though, but it's so hard to hide stuff @ TRU, but i'm tall so i'm able to hide stuff a little out of the way, although sometimes putting things realy close to the ground has an advantage too.

BK: I have a TFTM poster in my classroom and there's some TF fan art on my staffroom desk. Otherwise I'm fairly low-key about my TF collecting at school. It's not because I'm necessarily ashamed of TF collecting, but it's because most school kids just lack the maturity to even begin understanding the hobby of toy collecting -- in fact, most school kids have trouble comprehending anything that they're not involved with.

And as I said, if kids want to ask me about this hobby, I tell them that they are more than welcome to see me at lunch time and discuss it. That way if they're fair dinkum, they will come and have their questions answered without disrupting the lesson - and well, if they're not (which is like always) then it's an effective way of telling them to STFU and get on with their work. ;)

Kids are worse than adults, I had picke dup a tf and was looking for more and some little brat kid picked up a plastic scythe and hit me with it, I wont go any further but he left the store very unhappy

OH MAN! I almost forgot!

I've had a similar situation.

I was mulling over whether or not to get Sigma 6 Cobra Commander, and I decided to get it.

well, a kid about 8 or 9 years old snatched from me. outta my damn hand! I says "hey, i was gonna buy that."

the kid says " you buy toys, thats just sad."

I says " maybe its for my kid."

he calls me a Punch.

So I yank the fig outta his hand and goes " nope. its mine now. go the next aisle over and get you Dora doll."

his mom told me I was pathetic for buying toys at my age, and told her that her child is a foul mouthed little Blot, and they both needed a slappin.

she complained, but since I was buyin the toy, walmart did care.

I've been collecting toys since I was about 12, sos I gots some fun stories of retail shop madness.

I ended up giving CC to my little cousin for his birthday.

Hmm...I probably would have told her to get her Starscream ass back in the kitchen and cook me a chicken pot pie.

Man, it goes back earlier than that.....remember cabbage patch kids? Hell even G1 was like that though not to the same extent as CPK.

CPK creep me out.

Garbage Pail Kids were 10000000000 times worse than CPK, IMO.

If a kid ever took something from my hand in a store, I'd probably punt him.

I normally just let the little ones grab what they want and if there is something of interest to me left I get it.

But I was at TRU a few weeks back looking for Classics and I did come upon all of the deluxe figures. I grabbed all 4 and started looking for the voyager class figures when I overheard a gentleman with his child ask a TRU employee if they had any TF Classics and what aisle would they be in.

Now, I am not sure if they were for the child or the gentleman...but I started to feel bad thinking that they were for the child. Ultimately I rationalized it to me being there first. I didn't grab doubles or anything so my conscience is clean. I doubt the child would of been intrested in Classics....but I may be wrong about that.

I have had opportunities before in the past to pick items that I know to be rare in other area's of the country or the world to possibly sell on E-Bay and I have as of yet passed every time. I would feel wrong doing something like that. I hate it when I have to shell out any more than MSRP on these toys. I wanted to punch some douche in the head @ Target I saw walking towards the register with multiple Sigma 6, Cybertron and Star Wars toys.

I looked like a cabbage patch kid when i was younger. :redface

ive only had 1 odd look when ive got a load all at once but that was it

ive had one girl say i must realy like collecting them when i got 3 reissues at once but she seemed pritty nice

but for the record tho i would never take a toy out of a kids hand if he put it down or i got to it just befor him I'd get it.

these stories are making me laugh...fighting with children over toys.

I think if a kid pulled a toy out of my hand, I would think the kid was a piece of Blot...but then I would realize that I am a loser collecting toys and would walk away in shame.
