I crossed over to the dark side...

skipping on primals and the show sucks. seriously. not only does he have more depth than prime (i blame the times, toons werent written for depth in the 80's, so you cant really blame anyone for that) but all of his toys really rule. the bm ones are a matter of prefference though. i loved them, but i can see how others wouldnt(the deluxe one has the best monkey mode of them all imo). all the bw primals were quite well made though. and since everyone is being given another chance to own the first bw primal (redone to make him look beautiful and not just incredibly fun to play with) no one in the fandom should pass it up again.

GO GET A BW PRIMAL WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

I just got the brown deluxe version of Primal today in the Cybertron packaging. I had the option of buying the special anniv. version with the little ship but didn't feel like spending an extra $5 just for that piece of plastic I'd likely lose in the couch cushions. Besides I like the deluxe version's colors better anyway. Haven't opened him yet but he seems really well-articulated...

The little ships are detailed and super awesome- no way would I pay for the wrong colors and lack of a shapeship.

I really dig Primal. Once I get this I'll be a little happy. http://www.tfu.info/1998/Cybertron/Burning...rningconvoy.htm

I got the RM verson, but I want the big monkey.

I recently got this http://www.tfu.info/1997/Cybertron/ClearCo...clearconvoy.htm

i missed out on the originals and i can't wait to get my hands on this cartoon acurate set. n im glad they took out the alternate beast faces. sometimes it pays to wait

wow... not only is the 10th anniversary of the BW toy line, but it also seems to be the 10th anniversary of the Trukk Vs Monkey debates we had in '96! Holy recurring-discussions, Batman!! :P :P

I agree that the original Ultra gorilla Primal is the best. Air Attack Primal is good as an individual toy, but one of the flaws with the BM line (yes, he's a RiD toy but he was meant to be for BM) is that the scale of some of the toys are so drastically off that they're not really fun to play with when interacting with other figures. For example, AA OP kinda looks really weird when wrestling with a Vehicon Motorcycle Drone...

The BW characters scale also differed between the show and toys too, but not to that extreme. The BW toys are still easily interactive with each other, e.g.: Dinobot can still stand next to Optimus Primal without one supremely dwarfing the other.

kinda like this?

Pardon my curiousity, but is it ALWAYS Optimus ________ that "converts" someone? I mean, I've got a fairly large collection now, but none of it was due to an Optimus toy. I mean, I love the characters, so don't think I'm Prime over Primal or anything. But for me, let's see.

Owned as a child: Hound, Shockwave, Sludge, Inferno, MW Hubcap

Got back into collecting later in life: Alt Smokescreen and Sideswipe, Unicron

Got into Energon: Insecticon and Snowcat

Got into Beast era: Universe Reptilion (Iguanus 2) and Universe Snarl (BM Snarl)

Got into Robotmasters: Starscream and Mirage

Got into Armada: While I did own Superbase Prime for longer...it was Demolisher who made me love Armada toys.

And now, with Classics coming up, it won't be Prime as my first purchase. It'll be Bumblebee.

But on topic of the monkeytruckdonkeything, I will be buying the TRU two pack sometime this week, so yeah, I will be able to see how awesome Primal and Megatron are as figures. And I don't doubt they are.

I just could never get over the fact that they progressed smaller rather than larger. I mean if you take the Alt line as scale comparison the RM beastformer figures are pretty close to scale for real animals. So why would giant robots in a war for eons choose to be smaller rather than larger? Also why choose to walk/run everywhere when you used to be able to drive or fly everywhere? Not to meantion that stupid energon over load from being in bot mode around the energon crystals too long. Don't get me wrong many of them were great figures, and my son's first transformers were Beast Wars transmetals. In fact his very first one when he was only 6 mos was TM Cheetor.

The same reason you have a desktop and laptop PC, and not a room filling one from the 60s.

Also why choose to walk/run everywhere when you used to be able to drive or fly everywhere?

Plotwise: It wasn't so much a choice as it was an option that wasn't available. Let's count how many semi trucks and tanks are prehistoric Earth. As for the "What If?" of how Hasbro intially planned Beast Wars to be a sequel to G2...ya got me.

Too much of a good thing. The energy crystals were the 120 watt light bulbs to the Maximal's 60 watt lamps.
