and here I thought that when I read the title, it meant my toys knew my secrets... time to put them in a dark closet.

There were plans to make a G1 Powermaster Rodimus Prime, but that was scrapped. In conceptual stage only.

Damn you for letting me know this was even a thought in someone's brain.

lol

AWESOME THREAD. Needs sticky.

*Points to TM2 Megatrons "spark chamber"*

So THAT is what you are!

I love this thread by the way :clap

i agree, it's pretty awsome. i like to watch movies with this kinda stuff on tv...

Did you mention how several of the G-1 minispies' vehicle modes were actually molds from the "penny racers' line of pull-back cars? They featured a panel on the back (where Bumblebee and Cliffjumper's heads were) where you could place a penny-the additional weight would cause the car to pop a wheelie when released!

More tidbits:

Up until the first TF: Headmasters series (a.k.a. G1, Series 4), a majority of the figures/toys were from other lines, such as Microman, Diaclones, and others. Just to name a few, all the G1 Autobot cars (until TF:TM), The Decepticon cassettes (again, up until TF:TM), Megatron, Shockwave, Ultra Magnus, the Dinobots, Whirl, and Roadbuster, just to name a few. It wasn’t until the G1S3 that Hasbro/Takara made molds specifically for the Transformers (i.e. Predaking, Trypticon, Metroplex, et cetera.)

Had G1 series 7 – that’s the line which initially introduced the Actionmasters, been successful, we would have had Actionmaster figures of more gestalts (other than Devastator) – Predaking, Bruticus, and Superion were some of the toys in question. Actionmaster Ultra Magnus would have been a play set similar to Actionmaster Optimus Prime. In conceptual stage only.

Pretenders were going to have been sold as dioramas with high level of detailed sculpting, but that idea was scrapped when Transformers were on the decline in NorAm after 1991. We were going to get other lines of Pretenders, including dual Pretenders, where one shell conceals two robots instead of one. Had prototypes made up, but was scrapped.

There were plans to make a G1 Powermaster Rodimus Prime, but that was scrapped. In conceptual stage only.

They had a Decepticon gestalt planned for the 4th series of G1 based on famous movie monsters, i.e. Dracula, Frankenstein, the Fly, et cetera. But that was scrapped in favor of Abominus. In conceptual stage only.

There were plans to make more 6-changers after Sixshot and Quickswitch – one of which transforms into a battleship/tank/jet/assault vehicle/snake/robot. That idea was only in the conceptual stage.

there's a lot of pictures of these prototypes and design sketches on the following site. including powermaster rodimus and the monster combiner etc.

great site, check it out.

i also like to add that there was a charachter named drop shot who was never mass produced but dod however made appearances in both the armada and energon (i believe) comics.

Those designs are awesome! I really wish those were put in production.

Not really a secret but the 3 smaller companions to the Autobot Brainmasters/Motorvators are interchangable. They are also among the few toys to have metal parts.

+ The Scramble City gestalts are the ones where the limbs are all interchangeable like Superion, Menasor, Bruticus, Defensor etc. - there was another Scramble City gestalt where the theme of the team's alt modes were all dinosaurs. One of the members would have been the first Transformer to have a Dimetrodon for an alt mode - since this didn't happen, TFs did not have a Dimetrodon until Beast Wars Neo. This gestalt never made it past the conceptual drawing stage.

+ HasTak did consider releasing an Arcee toy during G1 - it would have had a repainted Chromedome body and possibly a new head that I guess would've transformed into Daniel Witwicky. Thankfully this never made it past the conceptual drawing stage.

+ The prototype Godbomber is actually a much better toy than the actual Godbomber toy that was released. So why did we end up with the inferior version? The prototype was considered too cost-inhibitive, so Takara went with a cheaper version that wouldn't cost as much; this is understandable considering that they would've wanted to keep down the cost of the God Ginrai pack.

+ Until Dreamwave's Micromasters comics came out, the Deluxe Insecticons had never appeared in any Transformers canon outside of the toy line ever!

+ A Transfan named Ichikawa Hirofumi was the author of "Cybertron Chronicles" - a comic book that was exclusively sold at BotCon Japan 2000. At the convention, Takara decided that they didn't want the book to be sold, so they ordered Ichikawa to give the books away for free, forcing him to make a financial loss on the production of the comics. This infuriated the fandom and was also the death-knell of BotCon Japan. Takara has since attempted to repair relations with fans by involving Ichikawa with many of their TF projects since 2001; under this agreement, Ichikawa authored the tech specs for Nucleon Quest Convoy, the tech specs for all the e-Hobby exclusive Transformer characters (e.g.: Hauler, Sunstorm, Clampdown etc), the Story of Binaltech (but not BT Asterisk) etc. Ichikawa recently stopped writing for Takara around the time that BT finished.

+ The Diaclone TV commercial jingle is both highly annoying yet really addictive! DIA-KLONNNNNN!

The prototype Godbomber was actually better than the actual toy?

Now that is hard to believe. :tftongue I highly recommend Powermaster Prime but Godbomber is quite useless.

that godbomber proto is awesome - I had never seen that before - I wish they would give us that in retail.....

I love ginrai
