-1:24 scale vehicle mode

A 1:24 scale F15 would be over 2.5 feet long.

Just saying is all.

edit: Wonderfully apt comparison compliments GIS :tflaugh

Did you skim over the part where I said, "Aside from the last bit that's Starscream to a T."  :redface

Nope. :tflaugh

Ah, OK, I get it now. I thought you were being sarcastic with the "just saying" bit, thinking that I thought his jet mode was 1:24 scale. It's all good. :tfgrin

Okay, after having read all 10 pages, I think I can see Joshlowe’s point and I start to agree with him.

The original mold that we saw was indeed a very accurate representation of G1 Starscream in MP style. (Maybe a bit small compared to Prime, but if I’m not mistaken the G1 SS toy was also slightly smaller then Prime, so it fits.) This new version is not so accurate. A change that is apparently for a large part the result of making it more realistic in alt mode, which is the definition of an alt: super accurate altmode, even if the bot suffers something from it.

Using that argument, this isn’t so much a MP, but more an Alt/BT. (Is this perhaps Taktomy’s way of introducing the larger alts, esp. the rumored alt jets to Japan and is the USA getting this mold as an Alt? Only time will tell.)

Now, having said that, I also slightly disagree. MP Prime was to me a bit of a letdown. Although a strange mixture of the different G1 versions, the robotmode was nevertheless very solid and clearly G1 Prime. But we’re not collecting robots; we collect Transformers. I therefore feel that with a MP they should also try to make the altmode so realistic as possible. Maybe they’ve gone a bit too far with Starscream here by making the jet very accurate and as a result, the bot less so. (Again, sounds like an alt.)

I’m not really troubles with extra things on the arms. It may not be G1 accurate, but it’s close enough. The moving of the tailwings to his hip I think is a real shame. Not only does it make the figure less G1 accurate (and therefore less of a MP), but it also makes the figure look less as a whole IMO. Really hope it can be moved down (although I doubt, since their doesn’t seem to be a way to attach it properly, other then to hold it in place in altmode), but if not there’s always the option of glue. Must also say I like the original legs designs better.

(Of course I will get one.)

Final remark: could it be possible that Taktomy wanted to release the original one, but that the recent changes have been on request by Hasbro? The original version is a MP and would be sold by Taktomy. The new version could easily be sold by Hasbro as an Alt, so they can meet fan demand of larger alts and alts that are jets without development costs. While for Taktomy this would mean a sharing of costs, making it cheaper. Both companies win.

I don't understand some of you people with saying "I'm not getting it because it is a Binaltech/Alternator/Whatever..."

I'm getting this because it's a goddamned awesome Transformer, period!

And for the people claiming "The new mold is less show accurate": Did you actually notice how the back wings are completely removable? That actually makes the second mold more show accurate than the first mold... :wave

I now know why I and Joshlowe can't agree (and probably never will): Whatever the TF line, I have always considered a good TF is a TF with a good looking Alt mode (that's why I hate most of the Energon line and am not psyched by Metroplex). The bot mode has to be a well proportionate adaptation of the vehicule mode, that's all.

The new MP3 has several alteration. From an esthetic point of view, I consider it even give him a better look, even if it made him effectively a litle less G1 accurate. Nevertheless , the new mold still scream G1, and whoever will see a pic of it will say, "This is G1 Starscream". No one can deny that.

When I think about it, if 20th Optimus Prime had received some cool looking addition that would have made his truck mode look better, even if it means he would have not looked perfectly G1 accurate  (I insist it should have to look cool in bot mode), I think I would have considered him even better.

That's where my opinion and the one of Joshlowe diverge. He consider the respect of the character as a more important point. For him, MP is about the character, for me, it's about the sheer of details and the look and respect of the both modes. From there, I can undestand why he is not pleased.

New pics?

Also, I really don't see the problem with how the alt mode used to look.  It looked fine besides the lumpy underside.  Oh well, the designer did what he did.

Are you talking about the jet wings that are on his back in robot mode? Or the tailfins from the jet mode?

Yes, I would like to know this as well, because it doesnt look to me that anything on either mold is removable. Though, if the waist kibble were removable, I would go for it 100% no doubt in my mind..... though... Im probably going to any way :tftongue . Hopefully the waist kibble is attached with a joint that has a lip on it so that it can move up and down, then we, those who dont like the kibble on th waists, can trim that small lip, and then take it off in bot mode, and reattach it in vehicle mode. Thats what made TF's fun for me as a kid, I always like the Head/Power Masters for that reason, as well as Prime and the G1 Screamer. they had removalbe peices that I could just put off to the side, and TADAAAAAAAAA we have accurate modes of everyone!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! Ok, Im done ranting now.

The tailfins. I believe it actually says so in the Japanese text.
