I preordered MP Screamer after the original proto surfaced.  Had I seen this one first, I most likely wouldn't have.  Fortunately for BBTS, being now dead set on owning it, these changes aren't enough to make my cancel my order.

I will, however, be taking whatever steps are neccesary to remove the additional kibble, even if that means breaking a $100 toy.  I would never have transformed him anyway, and Jesus Christ, he has half a plane hanging from his hips.

There's nothing Masterpiece about this figure: Not the vehicle mode, not the robot mode, not the scale, and not the price.

I'm pretty sure his classification is masterpiece.  and his price point is masterpiece too.  Isn't that what you're Starscreaming about?

Sony unleashed the PS2.

"It's not a games console." they said, instead claiming it be be a multimedia entretainment hub or some lame crap.

So I proceeded to call it a console.

I was flamed and attacked and bitched at. People called my intelligence into question, they said my logic made no sense and so on.

After all, clearly Sony had said it wasn't a games console.

Of course, most people wound up playing DVD's on their DVD players, listening to music on their I-pods and using the PS2 for, well, playing games.

And then the court case revealed the reason Sony were so insitent it wasn't a games console.

Games consoles weren't exempt from tax.

The courts didn't buy it either.

All those people who had thrown down a couple of hundred more for a bunch of tacked on extras that didn't work properly, all because they believed Sony's marketing spin and tax evasion scam.

So knock yourself out and insist this is a Masterpiece and be assured that HasTak love you for it, you allow them to keep prices artifically high.

Me?

I'll call things like I see 'em and applaud those who do the same.

I have a hard time seeing how the movement of a piece of kibble is a huge redesign

It's not just the waist. The arms have armour, the legs look totally different, he has massive pointy bits on his shoulders and even the crotch plate has been changed.

And the first was a redesign of sorts, I said as much.

It was redesigned to incorporate the show version, the comic version and the toy version in one figure, like MP Prime.

All the influences present were from the original interpretations of Starscream during G1.

You could call it a monument to all the artists who designed him during G1.

Just like MP Prime.

The second mold was redsigned to incorporate things that have never existed on G1 Starscream in any form before.

Some are practical and neccessary, but others are just Starscream as he'd have done him if he'd designed him all those year ago.

There is a huge difference there, a huge one.

Speaking of which...

I'm glad your artist sensibilities have given you objective criteria to judge this figure better than everyone else posting here. I'm not sure if you're referring to me or a collective "you" when talking able Geewun'ers, but that statement makes zero sense. If both designs of the figure are not G1-accurate, a true Geewun'er would be picking apart mercilessly both figures.

Okay, my use of the geewunner term was not wise, but the last paragraph leading up to an including the line you quoted made sense to me, but maybe I wasn't clear enough.

Masterpiece Starscream is a tribute to G1 Starscream, therefore the people who would be drawn to a G1 figure the most are G1 fans.

This is no different to the way He-Man busts are the most attractive to He-Man fans and so on.

And this is how it was with the first released pictures of the first mold.

Lots of people liked him, but the G1 fans and Starscream fans were drawn to him the most.

Certainly more than people who didn't like Transformers.

But with the second mold, that is changing.

I'm not saying G1 fans don't like him, as many here and other places do. But from what I'm hearing, that enthusiasm is dwarfed by some of Kawamori's fans.

Some of these are people who were not that interested in the first mold because they don't like Transformers. Yes, it was designed by him and had his touch, but was really someone elses designs at it's core, ones they didn't like.

The only way they'd like a Transformer is if it was less like a Transformer and more like the usual stuff Kawamuri works on, and they're ARE liking it.

They're liking it more than the fans it's supposed to be aimed at, because the heavier use of his style has outshone the mold.

That is the difference bewteen MP Prime and MP Starscream.

If that doesn't make sense, I can't really help that.

All I can say is that some who love G1 Starscream were turned off by what he did with it and some who dislike G1 Starscream were pulled in by those same changes.

I guess it hasn't occured to anyone that the waist kibble from the second set of pictures could actually be moved up and down in bot mode, and really just re-posed from the first set of pictures.

Actually, yes it has.

Right from the off people have been asking if the change is permanent or a choice thing.

I'll even go so far a sto say that I think they do and that they pad out the legs at the back as well as the sides again.

I'm pretty sure his classification is masterpiece.  and his price point is masterpiece too.  Isn't that what you're Starscreaming about?

That's a great story.  but it doesn't relate at all.  I really doubt "masterpiece" gets taktomy a tax break. :roll  and I call things like I see em too.  And I see this as a masterpiece.

Nope, but it allows them to pump up the price even higher.

if you don't think it's worth it, don't buy it.  They sell the Hybrid for, what, $70?  and it's how small?

If they called this a "larger scale binaltech" and listed it at $100, would you still be unhappy?

If they called this a "larger scale binaltech" and listed it at $100, would you still be unhappy?

If they make it entitrely out of plastic, like they do the other Binaltechs they bring over to the west and sell it at $35-ish I'll be happy.

If the extra kibble is removable, I'll be happy at MP Price.

$100 is a lot of money, for that price they could do that with the kibble.

-1:24 scale vehicle mode

A 1:24 scale F15 would be over 2.5 feet long.

Just saying is all.

edit: Wonderfully apt comparison compliments GIS :tflaugh

Did you skim over the part where I said, "Aside from the last bit that's Starscream to a T."  :redface

I'm pretty sure his classification is masterpiece.  and his price point is masterpiece too.  Isn't that what you're Starscreaming about?

No, it's not. What I'm "Starscreaming" about is that this figure is Masterpiece in name only, that's it, nothing else about it is Masterpiece (except for the price, I'll admit I goofed on listing that).

I swear, Takara could put a piece of crap in a Transformers box and call it "Masterpiece Browning" and some of you would preorder it for $100.  :roll

Starscream is Binaltech in Masterpiece clothing through and through.
