I guess it hasn't occured to anyone that the waist kibble from the second set of pictures could actually be moved up and down in bot mode, and really just re-posed from the first set of pictures.

When you say moved up and down, do you mean from the hips to the legs? Or do you just mean moved more out of the way while still remaining attatched to the hips?

Anyway, I think Takara's big mistake here was even letting the pics of that first proto surface.

Up and down from the hips to the legs...I can't tell from the first pics exactly how the panels are attached.

I'm not sure about that...the hip panels are longer than the legs. The top looks like it would jut out and probably look worse than having them on the hips.

But hey, what do I know - I'm not engineering the damn thing.

I couldn't tell either. Considering that those panels seem to be easily moved in the overall design of the toy, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved around quite a bit in bot mode or won't be moved again in the final design.

Maybe they can change them slightly so they can be moved back and forth and the top half that would stick out when it's attached to the leg could fold down instead....

OmegaPrime1983 said I should have posted this here aswell.  So here's what I posted in the kitbash forum.

I did some quick digibashes on the proto pics just to get an idea of what the new proto may look like versus what the old one may have looked like.  As I noted elsewhere these didn't take much time at all to do and are a touch sloppy.  I wasn't going for perfection, more just to satisfy my own curiosity and maybe yours.  :)

Please reveal to us the secret MP formula.

It's no secret.

Masterpiece Formula:

-Iconic robot mode

-Familiar, but not 100% realistic vehicle mode

-12" scale robot mode

Starscream is the exact opposite of this.

Binaltech Formula:

-Familiar, but not iconic robot mode

-100% realistic vehicle mode

-8" scale robot mode

-1:24 scale vehicle mode

Aside from the last bit that's Starscream to a T.

I wouldn't expect Starscream to be the same size as MP Convoy, but 8" is far shorter than he should be (I also feel MP Convoy and Binaltechs have no business being displayed together but that's for another discussion). I just can't come up with anything "Masterpiece" about this Starscream. Sure this figure has a lot more detail than a normal Binaltech figure would, but it's the type of detail I would expect form a larger Binaltech figure.

This guy is Binaltech all the way.

This just reinforces my opinion of the old mold being better than the new mold. The kibble hanging off the hips, added panels on the arms, and the added panels behind the shoulders just look wrong. I'll take the leg wings and unrealistic vehicle mode over this any day.

Thanks for the digibash! :thumb

Each mold has it's ups and downs compared to the other.  July is coming soon which means only about two and a half months before this figure makes it out.  I hope some final pics are out next month so we can get a better idea of how to judge 'ol screamer.  I for one am just glad we got a new mp mold.  I thought we were gonna be stuck with magnus as the last one forever.
