What would happen if they aloud swearing?

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking that for a while now and it came eve higher when last night i wastch TFC on YTV and Starscream ended up losing to the autobots cause the ships engine was blown up by Bud and the Mini-cons. He said Slag which is quite friendly but they should of aloud him to say Blot because he was very pissed off there.

What would happen though if they aloud they Transformers to swear when they got real angry or something....and ended up making the show PG-13 because of the little fellows. What would happen? And what would YOU do?

Any ideas? :boogie

well slag is a cybertronian swear word and has been ever since G1. it seems to make more sense for a cybertronian to swear in his native tounge than in one recently adopted

if they allowed real swearing it would no longer be a kids cartoon. Super God Masterforce featured alot of japanese swearing so i hear.

galaxy force was FULL of swearing, they said Blot and damn all the time lol.  this is another reason i prefer to watch a series in it's raw form so i don't have to worry about ppl changing things (and i don't think tv-nihon would)

Yeah i agree, i almost died laughing when i heard Starscream say Blot in episode 42. That was funny! :tflaugh

They do swear in the comics.  If the cartoon started swearing, it'd be moved to late night, and it'd die there unless the writing improved to the point that average adults would enjoy watching it.

When did they swear in the comics?!

Also, yes, they do swear in the Japanese cartoons. But it's not taboo to swear on TV in Japan - yet Japanese kids don't swear at parents, teachers etc. It's the same reason why Takara can produce carded Transformers with resealable bubbles but Hasbro can't because Western kids would steal them --  Japanese (and Asian culture in general) instills a sense of responsibility in kids. This is also why Asian kids generally perform better at school too (I'm not making this up, this was the result of a university study).

I think one problem that Western society is plagued with is that in modern times we have become increasingly aware of what our rights are, and what we can get away with doing, but without being taught what the responsibilities that are coupled with these rights are. For example, the Internet is littered with hate sites like this one. Yes, people are entitled to freedom of speech, but with that right comes the responsibility to not abuse that right by using it to hurt other people and diminish the humanity of others. And for that very reason, hate sites are actually an infringement of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Sites like the one I just pointed out are examples of online human rights abuse, or at least promoting ideology that abuses human rights, which is in violation of Article 30 of the UDHR.

This is because the Japanese levels of censorship are different tha US broadcasting.. and many swear words don't have 100% equivelents in English.. so the translators used the closest appropriate word. ;-)

There are swear words that you won't even hear on Japanese TV, though...

The big thing is that if you get a show that uses cussing 24/7, it loses its value. Take, for instance, the word "love." Because English applies it to soo many different actions (as opposed to more ancient languages that differentiate between extreme like, plutonic love, friendly love, obsession, sex, so on), the word love has become desensitized, and lost much of its value.

The same would happen if Powerglide were used every other word in a cartoon. =P

Really, it wouldn't change much. Strangely, vulgarities are one of the most shallow parts of the English language, and degrees of vulgarity have never really developed like they have in different languages. So it's either full throttle, or jokingly weak. That doesn't work very well.. so... yeah.

Nah. Watch South Park if you want to see what full throttle vulgarity's like. The cuteness of the joke wears off fast... luckily a well-written show will have other things to fall back on.

I think that's one of the thigns that impresses me about the cream of the crop rappers. They don't use vulgarities for shock value, as such has worn off.. They use vulgarities for their lyrical flow and sound (how many good single-sylable words are there, after all?), and use it as part of the larger tapestry of what they are saying.

(Yes... I'm a white nerd who collects toys who has started listening to rap and hip-hop to pick out the musical quality in what these people are doing with their voices. =P )

words i've heard as a fan opver time

scrap

slag

glitch that one could be pretty obviouse spoken in the right way

screwhead

i thin k we all know what that last one would be

anyone ever see the beast wars episode gorilla warfare.

that scene when primal is rageing talking about how to deal with the predicons.

what he said right here.

fock you all i don't need you , i dont need any of you

he says it right before he blasts off through the roof htch and goes airborn.

i swear that's what he said if you turn up the volume when watching that scene

What about in the movie?

"Blot!  What are we going to do now?"

well, how about if we get snoop dog to stop by in the movie and say to Megatron that he should get the snippidy shoota outha wachizzle mcnizzle my bizzle?

And have Bumblebee jump up and say DAAAAMMMNNNNN...

ANd then prime comes out and says WORD.

Megatron stands there asking what the hell is everyone saying???  - BLAM -

I think they need to write it and focus on the story, knock off the swear words or what ever.

what's next, sex scene with Spike and Carley, getting Bizzay in the back seat of bumblebee? NOT!
