I think it's more that Ross's hyper-realistic style tends to make one realize that a guy in a spandex suit really is kind of silly looking.  While Batman tends to come off as much, much less "imposing" in Ross's art, the Norman Rockwell-ness of it seems to suit Superman better.

I want to get at least one of every Alt. mold. I have been pretty discerning about the remolds/repaints.

 

His shoulder pads are really the thing that detracts from me liking him. And its not that i dislike shoulder pads - Heck Trailbreaker had them!!

Even Laser Prime has them.  But why dont they snap in or make any effort to do something other than flop about.

 

Also apparently - from many reviews -his arms and chest dont actully clip in - so again wobbly.

 

I think there are legitimate complaints about the figure -and maybe the heated reactions come from people who genuinely WANT to like him but are being frustrated by a lazy and incomplete design.

 

I also think - as has been stated before - that many people would be less critical if it werent Prime.

It's weird, but Tracks and Prime have the exact opposite reaction.

 

The mold for each is a kibbly mess, but people tend to forgive the problems with the Corvette mold because it's Tracks, but Prime seems to be held up to a different standard.

 

...and I have the feeling that if the Dodge Ram mold were Ironhide or Trailbreaker people would be falling all over themselves about cool it was in spite of the problems.

I work in computer domain, and we can see same kind of reaction.

 

 

take two products, with both same advantages, and same disadvantages .

 

on the first, paste a "microsoft" sticker

on the second, an "apple" sticker.

 

everybody will flame the first cause his disadvantages , and will venerate the second due to its advantages

I still really like Tracks...

The funny thing is that if you showed a third party - who had no preconceived notions regarding TF - that particular pic, they might well think that the dynamic-looking "red truck" appears to be a better robot than the "blue car" with all the junk hanging off it's back.

I think he's a decent artist, but I don't like him doing superheroes.  I don't think they should be drawn like they're in a photograph.  Like MH pointed out, when it looks realistic, you notice just how unrealistic everything about it really is.

Wheelwells under the arms = much more heroic than car seats
