:tflaugh I guess tman is right -- if you like him, great; if you don't, great.

that's why i stay with my opinion ya know!

I have had him in hand and looked once, twice and three times but he didn't appeal at all

to big

to bulky

no feelin of a REAL Prime

etc... etc.... etc.....

okay end rant

TY

Thanks for the review :thumb

Although I don't have Prime yet and so wont make final judgment on this figure, I must say he's the first alternator that I'm really a bit hesitant about. I really like the truckmode, but the robot mode seems lacking.

Glad to read the crotchplate doesn't need to be folded out, because without it you at least get some semblance of upper legs. One of my biggest gripes with this design. Hopefully the remold will feature the dodge with an extra passenger/storage space, meaning this can be used to give him larger upper legs. (But I'm just hoping.)

Sorry to hear he has a backflip tendendy due to his knee joints not being ratchet joints.

Just based on the on-line pics I think I can safely say this looks to be the least executed of the alt designs. Considering the fact that about a year ago we had the first rumors of a red pick up truck, this might indeed be explained by it being an older design that didn't get the benefit of small improvements that other alts have had since then (although Prowl, even though being a very good figure, also has some slight shortcomings that could've haven been avoided judging by other alts).

oh geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez :roll

ZOMG WHAT A RIPOFF AT $20

BTW I remember when people called Alt Prowl a "spychanger"... quite the insightful observation (they both have flip hoods!! :eek). And BTW I see a lot more positive than negative comments about Prowl nowadays...

If we look back at G1, there's a handful of base transformations.

And many Transformers now are variations on those basics.

Alt prime and Prowl are based on the Sideswipe style of transformation (the basic spy changer type).

That transformation was never one of the most creative, it isn't the best base transformation to work from, and, perhaps most importantly, there seems to be no middle ground.

It either works really well, looks proportionate, like Sideswipe or Hot Rod (in their day) or it looks chunky and bizarre; huge chest, wimpy arms, block legs, like a spy changer, so it is an accurate observation.

And yes, many have warmed to Prowl, but a significant factor in that is the leg mod, which changes the whole appearance of the figure and pushes it towards the Sideswipe/Hot Rod side of the style.

And $20 for crap is a rip off, moreso when you live in the UK and the price is closer to $40.

It's not like I expect a masterpiece figure for that price, but I do expect something that lives up to the standards they set with the other figures in the line that sell for the same price.

That is not too much to expect.

Or at least it shouldn't be.

I really like this mold. The truck is awesome, the bot is decent. The character isnt my first pick.

From the pics Tman posted in one of the other threads, I'm really liking the overall mold and may just have to pick OP up if I see him in store. Either way though, I WILL be picking up at least one version of this mold, hopefully the black repaint isnt just a rumour and is released in a large enough scale that I can find one without having to spend $5 million on ebay for one.

It IS just that good, despite what the nay-sayers are saying.

I love every Alt. made so far. They are the single best engineered line of transformer toys,  and if Has/Tak never ventured to try them I would be sadly none the wiser.

The only reason I don't have Swerve/Sunstreaker/Rollbar/Ricochet is because I'm a poor college student that isn't going to pay for a third repaint.

And for all you bashers who don't like your Alt Prime, send him to me because I can't find him anywhere, and it's the only toy I want to spend my little disposable income on right now.

I wouldn't worry about finding him just yet.  I don't think he's out in stores right now.

By the way - whats with all the tracks hate??

I love the Vette - the only Alt i have all three versions of.

Hunter

I like my Tracks, but i'm honest aobut the toy's faults.

If you're like me, 20 bucks is a lot. sometimes, it's all we have to eat on.

if I'm gonna spend 20 or more on a tf, I expect it ot be above average.

on anything, really. an average 50 dollar game pisses me off like no other.

i forgot to mention something, if this TF wasn't prime, I'd still dislike him. admitedly, not as much(A tf named Optimus prime is generally a sign of quality, as they tend to put the msot effort into Prime molds. I tihnk that's why people are so disapointed with it.), but the dislike coming from a fact that it's supposed to be Optimus is very little for me. put a different head on him, call him trailbreaker, and he'd still be crap.

the uk it's more like $40.

the same price as vector prime.

when uk Protectobots it is for good reason. $40 for a toy like that is well not worth it
