Beast Wars character names

Recommended Posts

No they weren't. Megs look in BW is still considered one of the most correct(postures a bit wrong but howsever). The only dinosaurs that have shown evidence of a 'chocobo' look were the smaller ones. Which makes perfect sense, smaller mammals have alot of fur while rhinos, elephants and hippos have much spareser hair

Remember that BW Megatron was originally a crocodile... so if he had a name based on his beast mode, it would've been something like Megalligator. :P

Yes, the Beast Wars names suck.. especially the early ones. Hasbro's never been good at naming TFs.. they still aren't. I won't mention Scattorshot again, but another example would be DeceptiCharge.

Why did G1 have much better names? Because Hasbro didn't make them... writers hired by Marvel Comics made them. ;) Had Hasbro been in charge, we would've had similar names as to what we saw in Challenge of the Gobots. *shudder*

Decepticharge(No capitol C in the second part of the name.) was a severely misguided attempt to please the fanbase, Goki.

Hasbro isn't good at naming TF's because they're more concerned with keeping the trademarks to the names rather than making sure that the names are accurate.

:wtf Which fanbase would that be?

BTW I was speaking more generally of the whole idea of characters' names being action words or something "cool"-sounding or whatever... basically GI Joe-ish "code names". "I'M STARHAWK!" "I'M FIREWIND!" "I'M DESTRUCTIX!" "Uh, I'm Bob..."

The BW names were always a sore spot with me and a part of my initial dislike of the series & toys. It would not have taken a tremendous leap of thought to call Cheetor Rhinox and Rattrap 'Sprint', 'Stampede' and 'Overbite' or something similar. I'm surprised they didnt call Megatron "Megasaur", and just ignore keeping the trademark.

I disliked Primal and his ripoff name so much, to this day I don't own any of the Maximal beast leaders, bat, gorilla, lion, etc.

That works for the newer series, but w/ Beast Wars, which is a reimagining of the franchise, I was glad they used new names. They had to get some distance from G1 and G2 to make BW a success, plus the G1 names wouldn't have made much sense.

I do agree though that a lot of them were pretty bad, but I still like Primal, Depthcharge, Tigerhawk, Inferno (which suited the character), Tarantulas, etc. They did come up w/ some good names, not all of them were bad.

As I recall, Hasbro delegated development of Beast Wars to (the recently acquired) Kenner... so you can all blame them ;)
