Beast Wars character names

Recommended Posts

Not buying a toy just because you dislike the name? Wouldn't you agree that sounds a bit....sad?

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

It's Transformers. Like G.I.Joe, Action Man and whatever kind of toyline/cartoon, the names ALWAYS sound gay. Remember, it's aimed at kids. You can't expect names like George Ronald Kerstenbaum. :roll

Remember that BW Megatron was originally a crocodile... so if he had a name based on his beast mode, it would've been something like Megalligator. :P

Yes, the Beast Wars names suck.. especially the early ones. Hasbro's never been good at naming TFs.. they still aren't. I won't mention Scattorshot again, but another example would be DeceptiCharge.

Why did G1 have much better names? Because Hasbro didn't make them... writers hired by Marvel Comics made them. ;) Had Hasbro been in charge, we would've had similar names as to what we saw in Challenge of the Gobots. *shudder*

Megatron's alligator toy came out in 1996, being the only rock blister toy to come out in 1996. There was no Megatron toy in 1995, when the other rock-blister toys came out. Since Beast Wars began airing in 1996 as well, it is most likely that the T-Rex Megatron was designed first for the show, since the alligator and t-rex toys came out in the same year. And besides, Megalligator was the Japanese version of that particular toy. And we all know that Hasbro doesn't like to use Takara's names.

I try not to actually think about TF names too much. "Optimus Primal" is hella ghey in the same way "Rodimus Prime" is. I think Blackarachnia has the least ghey name of anyone in BW/BM, but it's still kinda funny.

:tfhuh

you think

Depthcharge

Rampage

Obsidian

Inferno

are lame? :tfhuh

I believe Rampage said it best when he said his name was "a bit obvious". :tflaugh

One of my favorite lines in the entire series.

I'm just saying that the whole idea of naming a toy "Inferno" or anything like that is inherently silly *because* it is meant to be so sincerely badass and stuff.... to a seven-year-old. Now, I don't laugh at seven-year-olds who think names like that are cool, because they're at an age where they haven't yet developed subtlety or a sense of irony. But for us to still think that way.... heh heh

FOR THAT, YOU WILL BUUURRRNNNN!!!!!!

The names never bothered me so much as that they would yell it followed by MAXIMIZE or TERRORIZE(except Terrorsaur, he actually sounded cool saying it). That made me laugh the first few times I heard it but like any of the crap you look over it to see an excellent, well written and animated show that IMO is the best Transformers series ever

I always wondered if they intended at one point to call the Predacons "Terrorcons". Cuz that might have made more sense with their transformation code thingy. you know, maximal -> maximize and stuff

but then I suppose "Terrorcons" might have been a bit of a giveaway

I fear to think of what "Maximal" was referring to...
