Beast Wars character names

Recommended Posts

The names never bothered me so much as that they would yell it followed by MAXIMIZE or TERRORIZE(except Terrorsaur, he actually sounded cool saying it). That made me laugh the first few times I heard it but like any of the crap you look over it to see an excellent, well written and animated show that IMO is the best Transformers series ever

I always wondered if they intended at one point to call the Predacons "Terrorcons". Cuz that might have made more sense with their transformation code thingy. you know, maximal -> maximize and stuff

but then I suppose "Terrorcons" might have been a bit of a giveaway

and Predacon isn't?

I fear to think of what "Maximal" was referring to...

Arcee: "oh, daniel, you really maximized good this time!"

I think that was the point. Like how that poor micromaster Erector must feel. A possible quote," That Erector has been around for 2 days now, he wont go away!"

He should consult his doctor.

Megatron's alligator toy came out in 1996, being the only rock blister toy to come out in 1996. There was no Megatron toy in 1995, when the other rock-blister toys came out.

No Megatron toy in 1995? What do you call this? megatron.gobot.jpg

Since Beast Wars began airing in 1996 as well, it is most likely that the T-Rex Megatron was designed first for the show, since the alligator and t-rex toys came out in the same year. And besides, Megalligator was the Japanese version of that particular toy. And we all know that Hasbro doesn't like to use Takara's names.

First of all, the BW toys are not designed for the show. Transformers, on the whole, is a toyline and the show and comics are made to market the toys. Not vice-versa. In fact, as revealed in ToyFare magazine, Mainframe Entertainment built their CG models by first making 3D scans of the toys - thus the BW TFs on the show are clearly based on the toys... hence why BWTFs have generally good toy-accuracy.

Secondly, I am well aware of the origins of the Megalligator name. The point I was making was that if Hasbro had been in charge of creating an original name for BW Megatron, it would make a reference to his croc/gator mode, since that was his original beast mode... and I cited "Megalligator" as a double entendre referral to his Japanese name... natch.

thus the BW TFs on the show are clearly based on the toys... hence why BWTFs have generally good toy-accuracy.

:wtf Beast wars has some of the most non-toy-accurate character models outside of G1.

it also had some of the most accurate. it was a mixed bag, really. the transmetals(fuzors count) were generally the most accurate models in the series.

though they did take some stupid liberties. WTF was up with the backpack switching on Rattrap, and how come they could never make up their mind about if Op Op should have his shields on, and where they should be.

hell, sometimes they couldn't make up their mind on what to call Op Op!

I'm just ranting now, X-bob. most of this wasn't directed to you. >.>

Mainframe Entertainment stated in a ToyFare Magazine article that their CG models were based on the toys. They would start with a 3-dimensional scan of the toys - that scan would become the basis upon which they would construct the show models. Obviously some character models have been more extensively modified than others, but it is clear that the BW show models are based on the toys. Not to mention the fact that Mainframe has publically stated this too.

Beast Wars has far better toy-show likeness than G1. Post-BM TF cartoons aren't a fair comparison, because these series have had parallel show/toy development i.e.: the toy and show models were developed simultaneously. Car Robot, Micron Densetsu, Super Link and Galaxy Force all had virtual simultaneous toy/show debuts.

Beast Wars, like G1, had the toys and show developed independently. And when we compare the two, BW comes out on top in terms of toy-accuracy.

But if we compair the Beast Wars character models to the Hadmasters-Operation Combination character Models then G1 come out on top

While it's true that the Japanese Headmasters' show models were more toy accurate, I don't agree that they were as toy accurate as Beast Wars. As for Operation Combination... that was a comic story, never a cartoon - so it's a moot issue.

At any rate - this doesn't change my original point, which was that the Beast Wars show models were based on the toys - toy accurate or otherwise.
