i just felt/feel BM was a story that didn't need to be told.  I mean BW had a great ending.  It would be like having the decepticons regain power and attack the autobots after rebirth.. you know the end.

You'd enjoy BM a lot more if you could just watch it as its own show and not merely as a continuation of BW. The show wasn't intended to be Beast Wars Redux, so of course it's going to fail if it's interpreted on that level. In order to appreciate BM you have to watch it in the right context.

That statement makes no sense to me at all.

Traditionally sequels are there to be taken as sequels, a follow up to the original, whereas totally different things are given totally different names to avoid miselading people and causing confusion.

I actually liked BM as a continuation to Beast Wars and G1, I liked that it actually progressed something, added, maybe even improved, instead of mentioned and left as is for fear of messing with the Status Quo.

Thinking of it as a seperate thing, afraid to sell itself on it's own merits really takes away from it imo.

so i'm not supposed to watch the sequal to BW as the sequal to BW?....[/hutner moment]

Was it called "Beast Wars 2"? :tflaugh

:tflaugh i'm not trying to be obtuse... but saying it isn't a continuation of BW is like saying that Spiderman 2 isn't a sequel to spiderman even though it has the same characters from teh first movie, plus flashbacks to it...

I guess I fail to see how it doesn't work after Beast Wars. :tfhuh

I also don't understand how you can say "don't watch it likes it's a sequel to BW". It is. Maybe something with the flashbacks has something to do with it. Or maybe it's the fact that it's the same exact characters. Hell, even the motor cycle guy was shown to be Waspinator. Yet they don't explain how he gets back to Cybertron.

Matter of fact, they don't explain really anything that had a mahjor bearing on the story. How does Megatron get there before the Maximals? How exactly does Magatron enslave the entire planet of Cybertron? What about the Matrix, the Sentinals, the ENTIRE POPULATION OF ROBOTS that turn into machines other machines to defend themselves?

One other thing that always bothered me is that I remember that on the Skir board, he said, or someone from the writers staff said this show was no way related to G1. Meanwhile, BW itself was. Then they use the PEC, Iacon, a statue of G1 OPTIMUS PRIME, as well as other things I can't recall.

LM, is right, if you take it out of context, it would make a fine story. If you take it out of the TF context and the fact that it was a sequel to BW, which tied into G1. As a stand alone story it's works fine. TO me, it seems like the shoehorned the thing into the TF universe and kind of tore down what was established in G1, and BW.

There was so much contradictory information coming from the BM writers themselves, that personally, it just seemed to me like no one had any idea what they were doing with this series, and made the writers look like a bunch of bungling amateurs.

It's simple. I didn't. Read the names before you reply. Get your facts straight and lay off the caffeine. That would probably help your case a bit.

"The Beast Wars are over. You lost."

Right. I'm just saying I don't see how Beast Machines fails as a sequel to Beast Wars. It followed it closely enough for me.

It should be pretty obvious to anyone who's watched BW and BM that the two shows are radically different from one another, despite using many of the same characters and taking place in the same universe. My point is that it was supposed to be that way. The Spider-Man analogy is inappropriate because BM wasn't "Beast Wars Season 4 As Written By Bob Forward And Larry DiTillio". It wasn't a mere continuation of the preceding show. Yes of course it used existing characters and drew upon G1 and BW for some plot points. But Beast Machines was fundamentally a different take on the TF franchise. As such, viewing BM as though it were supposed to be BW Season 4 is only going to lead to disappointment. Because it isn't BW Season 4. It's a different show with different themes, priorities, tone and plot.

And there's nothing wrong with that. It's ironic to me that Bob Skir specifically mentioned "fundamentalist" Transformers fans who take a very conservative approach to the franchise, meaning that all they ever want to see is more of what they've already seen. Get over it. If that notion had prevailed in 1996 there wouldn't have been any "Beast Wars," which (I hate to say it) is WAY more different from G1 than BM is from BW.

Anyway, like Skir also said, if you didn't like BM, there have been plenty of TF series since then that might be more what you're looking for.

Beast Machines is still the most adult Transformers show that I've ever seen. That will keep it in a league of it's own for a long time to come as far as I'm concerned.

You got that freakn' right. I played the first two episodes at work. My wife (who HATES Transformers), a female coworker (who thinks TF's are just male dolls), and several young girls stopped, sat down, and watched it. Nobody said "that's stupid" or "that's a kids show". They really got sucked in. The animation has improved since Beast Wars and the "tone" is darker and deeper. My wife even thought that it was a new show on tv.
