I Liked BM...I am actually glad that I saw it and BW only once they came to dvd...allowed for more of a constructive view. It was definatly interesting and faced paced. I guess the fans were a lot more fanatical back then then now ;-) Btw what is this TT that we didnt get but got RID instead? Im not following that? Oh and you can yell at me now but I LIKED RID  :-D

I liked RiD too

Transtech was the next series in development after Beast Machines; Hasbro was going to gradually take things back to a more "vehicle-based" TF series. It would have included characters from the G1 and Beast eras... at least if the names were any indication ("Optimus Prime", "Cheetor", "Shockwave", "Starscream", "Blackarachnia", "Silverbolt", etc.). There are design sketches and a few proto pictures floating around the 'net, featuring some very interesting hybrid designs (such as an Optimus Prime that turned into a Vehicon-ish looking truck and looked MUNKY-ish in robot mode). It never got off the ground, however, and Hasbro decided to go with Armada instead. A few elements of Transtech made it into Armada, though -- most notably the idea of the Mini-Cons. Armada Megatron and Scavenger were also *very* loosely based on their Transtech counterparts.

Yes. Very, VERY loosely.

indeed

*pees a little*

If I was Bob Skir I would laugh at the fans who dug their own grave.

I mean had fans been more optimistic about BM, then Transtech would have been produced instead of the current shows.

So the show was different and some characters were not that well handled. At least Skir and Wolfman tied something different. Unlike the current writers who seem intent on rehashing G1/BW/BM storylines/ideas.

Ah yes I remember reading about transtech and seeing some of the proto pics i think on here a while ago? That would have been a cool series if realized, however im still not too sad that we got RID...I think it is cool and liked how they combined the beast wars idea with the G1ish idea of vehicleformers. THe only only problem I have with RID is the tires on my prime cracked off  :-( good thing I have two :-D

:pfx  I really didnt get the hate vib from the show when I watched it last week. I thought it was refreshing, I mean I do have the benefit of watching  years later so maybe I am less influenced. I just really didnt see anything in there that was so horrible for the outrage it got. I mean its not like cybertron became earth...it still had a metalic portion.

So it seems we have the fanboys of yesteryear to blame for A/E/C

I used to think that :tflaugh

but there was more to it than that. In the midst of this huge fan backlash against Beast Machines, fans find out about this crazy awesome toy line that Takara's producing called "CarRobots". And they all go apesh*t over it "ZOMG REAL TRANSFORMERS ARE BACK"-style. I think Hasbro just decided that it was easier not to piss off the fans and give them what they wanted.

Plus, would *you* want to be the story editor for the next TF series after BM, when the last guy had received death threats?

Sure.  I'd look at the fan response to BM, then go forward with Transtech and kick BM in the nuts and call it a day.

Heck No! I still would not want that job. If they ever make a TF show here again, the poor sap who get's that job will have so many expectations to meet from current gripes I think he will be doomed to backlash.

RiD was intended to be a "filler series" to gauge interest in a vehicular TF toy line. Which seems silly in retrospect of course...

This was the idea behind the Machine Wars mini-line - its failure told Hasbro the world wasn't quite ready for vehicular TF toys yet (although, you'd think it would have told Hasbro people didn't want to buy a much of crappy molds and repaints - oh, wait, Hasbro's never learned that lesson).
