a topic about nationality stereotypes

Recommended Posts

i think we can all agree when it comes to grimlock as he has been reinterpreted over the years that in some ways he is a take on the whole russian stereotype

you know someone who is built large muscle wise and by all outward appearances comes accross as being more brawn then brain while still having a good bit of hidden smarts in their head in that deceptive sort of way while haveing a short temper and even shorter fuse.

from what i remember about hardhead  he was every bit the person who was as stubborn as a mule and grouchy as a grizzly bear  at worst  and that was if someone got him in a bad mood fight wise. he also had some kind of perverse pride in being stubborn as well.

so you could say he was a take on the german stereotype in a way character wise.

so  does that make tracks a take on the whole stuffy and somewhat stuck up brittish stereotype

me i always figured jazz was a take on the stylisticly upbeat, dance move crazy, streelt lingo smart african american nationality in a stereotype sort of way.

no offense intended on any those by the way

and its the truth...i agree...but i believe they do that as to allow all kinds of people to relate....plus they wanted to be able to show that all different kinds could come together and work together...especially the autobots

This is the only bit I find offensive! It's 1 "t" and capital "B" - British  :thumb

*Damn ammericans  :redface *

I don't think you got any of the above stereotypes right. Grimlock was more a take on the "I'm strong therefore I'm dumb" stereotype, most likely a nod from the Japanese stereotype for that. Jazz was like Frenzy and Rumble, where people talk

"tough" to prove something but aren't really - I don't think Jazz was "African-American" at all.

Tracks, on the other hand, I always thought he was gay, so he was the "gay" stereotype. I don't know how you could have missed that and assumed he was British.

Note that all the stereotypes that I had revised don't involve nationalities at all. Maybe it's just you, Saberwolf.

jazz was a jazz man. a cool cat kinda guy. hence scatman doing his voice.

Tracks was not british. IMO Brawn should have been though with that alt mode

i always figured jazz was one of the hippest cats to ever swing fro the autobot code to paraphrase an old saying from the 70's

the guys lingo was like a mix of late 70's to early 80's street lingo over the years so i guess one could say that above line and mean it as a compliment.

on the whole stereotype thing i meant the word as it would apply in the antionality sense.

hence hardhead being a play on the german nationality.

heck i'm german and even i don't know why we are so stubborn.

it's just in our nature i guess.

were certainly not high strung like the french are which is why i'm glad theirs no french ancestry in me cause if their was the stress would kill me.

i figure we're maybe 4-5 times more stuborn then a guy of any other nationality

I think you're wrong about all those stereotypes, except for Jazz being an Afro-American stereotype - he does speak in an Ebonic American accent. Blaster even moreso.

The "Russian" Transformer was Cosmos, not Grimlock. Hardhead being German? Uh... no (you think Germans are stubborn, which appears to be the only country that hasn't upgraded to the Metric System yet, eh? :P) - as Mike McConnohie pointed out, Cosmos was supposed to speak in a Russian accent...

As for Tracks being gay... he's not as vain as Sunstreaker. Tracks was vain, but he wouldn't have a sook whenever his paintjob got scratched. His accent is meant to he the "Harvard Lockjaw" kind of upper-class American English (so much for *English). Again, this was pointed out by McConnohie.

*Yes, I know you said British, but I'm sure you meant English. And probably and upper-class Windsor accent as opposed to say, a middle-class Manchester accent, kno'-wot-I-meen?

I always found Outback to be deeply offensive.
