I hate GF/C-Megatron's personality.

The problem in Japan - and I have seen the Japanese fandom complain about this - is that the stories are all infantile. The shows are not just aimed at a younger audience, they are aimed at a stupid younger audience. As Michael McConnohie said in the G1 DVD interview, children aren't as stupid as some adults may think they are... the thing that I've disliked about the post-G1 Japanese cartoons is that they talk down to the audience. Not only would this frustrate children, but it also does nothing for the adult audiences.

i think that's mostly the fault of the restrictions that were put on the animation/writing staff because the cartoon also had to air in America and let's face it, americans do think that their children are stupid. if Hasbro would just mind their own f*cking business instead of having to have the final say on what goes in the cartoons, they could have been decent.

I've never seen the GF/Cyb cartoon, so I don't know what Megatron is like in that.  But it would be nice to see a new Decepticon/Predacon/whatever evil faction leader take over.  This time someone who doesn't come up with silly plans that have a high chance of being defeated.  An evil leader who doesn't treat his troops like dirt, but treats them as what they truly are, sentient weapons of mass destruction.  Plus a leader who doesn't let humaniod life forms live, instead just killing them just for being inferior.  A leader with good plans, understanding and respect for his troops, who is truly respected by his troops and who knows his enemy perfectly, like what they'll do to fight back, how to counteract their attacks and how to make them hurt.

And an evil leader who isn't afraid to jump in and fight even at the risk of being killed.

-Chuckles

Did not care all that much for Energon. Armada was an ok show because it introduced new concepts.

GF/Cybertron looked promising but I have only seen the DVD eps.

I think BW/BM Megatron was the most evil and sucessful Megatron out there. He was able to lead an army (more like group) of Transformers whom (with a few exceptions) were following their own agenda's.

He was facing an army/group of very skilled and dedicated Maximals but still managed to stay ahead of them for most of the time and came really close to beating them. He also had to deal with the Vok regularly.

Then he single handedly manage to conquer an entire planet untill the same group of Maximals finally stopped him for good.

This Megatron was never really interested in power in the literal sense, his greatest asset was his mind and ability to think several steps ahead. He had a backup plan for most of the time.

The current Megatrons lack that and as such I do not like them that much.

I think the current writers do not really "get" Transformers which makes the cartoon far less enjoyable. And the Japanese seem more interested in involving super-weapons/super-modes/super-attacks in a battle than actually fighting.

It has been ages since I have seem something as cool as Rattrap destroying Ravage's cruiser with only 2 small bombs, the use of his "knievel mode" and a LOT of guts.

In my opinion, G1 Megs and BW Megs are the cream of the crop, with Armada a close runner. G1 was a calculating, sinister being who was respected and feared. BW managed to direct what must be the most cutthroat band of transformers ever, plus he had  rubber ducky. Armada had a more complex relationship with Prime. RID was kind of an obligatory villan. Lots of evil speeches and not much else. Energon, as with the whole series in my opinion, was a disapointment. They never really managed to get me interested in him, until the last episode. Plus, his Galavtron form was PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GF/C is a mixed bag for me. On the one hand he is certainly good at manipulating others, on the other he doesn't do much else. Although, Optimus isn't great in that series(or Energon) either

I think it might be time to bring in a new bad boy, or even girl. I'd like to see how Prime would deal with having to fight a fem. There have been a few good decep leaders apart from Megs, Deszaras was excelent in my opinion

Abouy hte anime shows being infantile. I'll agree that Energon and GF have greatly simplified them, but the precding shows were surprisingly complex in my opinion

Ah, its was Armada's Galvatron that was pink... not Energons.

im quite fond of master megatron/galvatron he was by far the strongist of all the TF's even in the final fight convoy needed vector primes sword

yes he was blinded by his own power and was stuck up only thinking about himself but hes the leader of the bad guys IMO him being a evil and self serving are what he should be about

and to be honist at the end of GF he was stuck with the weaker cons any way

He's not cheating. The fact is, that Optimus is too weak to beat Megatron. We've seen it all throughout the series. But the point he also has been trying to make throughout the whole series is that he has a team, comrades, friends. They care about each other and will fight to defend each other. Their teamwork can defeat evil unlike Megatron where all he cares about is being the most powerful in the universe and recreating the universe as he sees fit. Megatron doesn't care about his lackeys and thinks that if they're too weak to survive then that's their problem. Which is exactly why he can't win. He is still an awesome character though who doesn't give up even after all his subordinates ditch him.

You are referencing the newer Megatron; the older version of Megatron (i.e. G1) seemed to care for his troops, especially thoughs that were strictly loyal to him and that were a necessary asset to the decepticons on earth (i'm sure he wouldnt ditch soundwave, his most loyal sub-commander, or shockwave another who seemed to be a loyal follower of Megatron, as he did place Cybertron under Shockwave's control in his absence)

All the other Megatrons following seemed to have total disregard for their sobordinates (specifically BM Megatron who wiped out the entire population of Cybertron, including those of his own faction--Predacons)

Meh. I sort of stopped caring how the decepticons behaved since Armada kicked in. I watch the show occasionally in vain; hoping that all of a sudden the story will somehow redeem itself from its woefully simplistic ways as though it were made for human children as opposed to mere monkeys. The shows suck arse and cause me much pining for the story and dialogue of the Beast Era...

The Japanese shows had one minor leg up in that the lip-flap was in their native tongue and the voice actors come off more naturally than the US dubs. That's it. That's the only difference really. Actually, the one other advantage is that the episodes air reliably rather than at some obscure whim of the cosmos.

Though Gyconi... You must have burst an eardrum or something, because Matt Hill has one of the most annoying voices in this hemisphere. >_:D :yay Turn UP your volume and actually listen to him sometime. I promise, you'll regret it as I come to have.

Well I thought the purpose of this thread was to discuss GF/C Megatron's personality so that's what I did.

And Energon Megatorn cared for his troops or he wouldn't have bothered to reformat Demolisher after he saved Megatron's life. Or when an Energon Tower toppled onto Tidal Wave, he called off the assault and had Tidal Wave reformatted into Mirage.

Gyconi: As I.S.T. eluded to, your post was emotionally fueled and irrationally constructed. As already mentioned before, it's not what you're saying that is objectionable here, but the way that you have presented it. So I'm not going to waste my time responding to your rebuttal.

For the record, I have watched Micron Legend, Super Link and some Galaxy Force - as a general policy, I never watch dubs.

That's a fair point.

A TF series can also fail if it is too adult, as we saw in Beast Machines. I think the main success of Beast Wars came from the fact that it was able to simultaneously cater toward two main age groups.

I would like to see HasTak actually instruct writers to create something along the same spirit as BW insofar as being a serious piece of scifi story-telling whilst entertaining for children at the same time.

And Energon Megatorn cared for his troops or he wouldn't have bothered to reformat Demolisher after he saved Megatron's life. Or when an Energon Tower toppled onto Tidal Wave, he called off the assault and had Tidal Wave reformatted into Mirage.

1. Reformatting Demolishor wasn't a terribly altruistic thing to do - since in doing so, he brainwashed Demolishor into a simpleton in order to enslave him for his own means. That's not something you do to someone you care about.

2. When he saved Tidalwave to be reformatted as Mirage - what was his true motives? Was he doing it because he genuinely cared about Tidalwave or because he did not want to lose Tidalwave as a military asset?
