Well, I just hope that Cybertron is much better & keeps my attention.  I'm not holding my breath, but we shall see.

I thought they looked exactly like the toys. Unlike the Original G1 toys. When I finally got E Galvatron it felt like I was playing with the actual cartoon character. It used to really suck back in the day opening up figs like Rachet and Bumblebee. That was a WTF moment.

I second the notion that the hand animation in the last episodes was far superior.  Sure, the CGI was very toy accurate, but when the characters ran, threw punches, etc. it looked very poor, more like a stop motion animated toy (which it pretty much was).  The facial expressions and use of perspective in the hand animated bits added a lot of drama and kinetic style that was cool, IMO.

 

I'd compare the hand animation to the best of all TF animation I have seen, the transformation sequences from RID.  Watching Rail Racer and Omega Prime especially combine was a real treat.

 

But in all seriousness, Energon put me to sleep sometimes.  I sure hope Cybertron will be better.  It is all CGI correct?

And most of the Energon characters had less personality than a Borg drone. It was mostly "Yes sir!" when Optimus shouted orders. When Kicker shouted at Optimus he just stood there taking it.

 

That personally pissed me off. I would have told that little runt to sod off and stick his opinion where the sun does not shine.   :tftongue

Sorry but Beast Wars easily beats out Armada in every way, characterizations included. I would not even dare to compare any of the Armada characters to Megatron, Rattrap or Dinobot.

Rattrap is the steriotypicle Vetern, and Dinobot is a styreotypicle Samarai. Armada Megatron tops BW Megatron, becuse Armada Megatron went through a redeming prossus at the end, if it wern't for the war he and Prime might have been friends

 

Lets not forget R.I.D. Sky-Byte was an really funny and interesting character and Scourge was just awesome.  :thumb

And finally (yes I had to mention it) G1: Optimus Prime was (and still is) the best leader ever! (He is also the first to come back from the dead due to fan demand.) Megatron was not bad either because unlike most evil leaders from the cartoons of those days he was not a complete idiot.

Megatron, not an Idiot!?!? this is the same Megatron that turned prime into an aligator isn't it. Primes not that smart either, he drove to the north pole to get Skyfire to fly him to peru  :tard

 

He was also more than willing to kill off the human race for his own gain. (See "The Core") which makes him quite evil. Or not. We do not call the bug exterminator evil either and for Megatron we are just as much insects.

Kicker hates the Transformers becuse they ruined his child hood, and seperated him from his girlfriend at an Early Age, On the other Hand real army comanders arn't alowed to beat there solders. Optimus couldnt be mean to kicker, becuse Locating Energon depends entirely on Kickers abilities

Overall the series wasnt as bad as it could have been, and had a few momemnts of of interest, and was leaps and bounds better then armada. 

 

But the ending was just Lame.  A repeat of Armada, did you learn nothing.

 

I know that the show was extended because the fans wanted combiners, but it might have been better off if they hadnt come into the picture and they ended the series earlier. 

 

My two cents, cant wait for Cybertron, need to remember to set the DVR for that one.

Rattrap is all but the stereo type of a Veteran. Veterans usually complain about the young ones and tell tales about their glory days. Such as Kup did. Or to a lesser extent Ironhide.

 

Rattrap did neither. He did complain but about pretty much everything. And there no evidence that he is actually a veteran. In the first Beast Wars episode he is argumentative and even disobeys Optimus. Not a thing a veteran would do at all. He is just older (or more mature if you will) than Cheetor.

 

And Rattrap had a great sense of humor that really made the series worth watching. Not to mention his friendship with Dinobot.

 

Dinobot was a very interesting character as well and even if he is the stereo type of a Samurai. There is not a Beast Wars fan out there that does not like Dinobot. He was one of the best developed characters out there. Just watch Code Of Hero which is the most moving death of a Transformer since Optimus Prime died in TF the movie.

 

And the fact that Megatron and Optimus were becoming friends is rather retarded. It is as if the writers of Star Trek suddenly decide to have Klingons and Romulans like eachother.

 

They have been fighthing for millions of years. Even though you may have an alliance with someone against a common foe, it is hard to throw away years of hostility. They might have developed respect for eachother's abilities but becoming friends is a bit too far off for me.

 

Redeeming process. All that does is make him weak in my eyes. He used to have plans of conquest and now all he wants is to be friends and hug and make up? :tfpuke

Do not know Gouryu so I will take your word for it. I liked Sky-Byte though.

Megatron was a lot smarter than most of the leaders in other toylines. If you read my post about G1 nostalgia there was a poster who commented that most of the leaders were pure idiots. Megatron actually had some good plans once in awhile.

 

As for Prime, it was a 1980 series cartoon. Nothing was perfect. If you complain about every little inconsitency in the show then of course it will suck.

 

And according to the comic the Transformers crashlanded in Oregon. So it you take that account, driving to the Northpole is quicker. And one avoids many borders which is actually very well thought of when you think about it. Not to forget that Prime picked up reinforcements (Skyfire) as well.

First of all. Megatron would not think of himself as evil when he destroys humans. To him we are ants and humans do not think of themselves as evil when they call the exterminator to eradicate a nest of ants.

 

And what is with nobody is that evil? Quite naieve if you ask me. Go watch the movie Downfall/Der Untergang and then let me know what you think.

It has been established that the Autobots are not soldiers at heart. And even soldiers question the orders of their superiors. A good second in command is expected to voice his opinion. Seen enough war movies to know that a uneasy command structure is more the rule than the exception.

 

That aside, the Energon characters really needed more character.

And Kicker was not part of Optimus' command so Optimus had every right to talk back. I never mentioned that Optimus shoud hurt him but just a simple speech how he disobeyed orders and raised the city without authorization.

 

(Which if you think about it makes NO sense at all. There would have to been at least 2 people who had to give their authorization for such a procedure given safety issues and all that.)

 

Had Optimus had been then a real army commander would have had him scrubbing latrines as well or something like that. Despite his abillites. Diciplinary punishment is quite common in the army. If a solder gets in trouble for not folding his shirts properly one can imagine what would happen to someone who had a big mouth.

 

If Kicker was that imporant the Optimus never should have let him near any battle zone in the first place. Any commander knows that as well.

 

But Kicker was just a way of keeping humans in the front line. Any race that developed space travel and is capable of building space stations is also capable of making a scanner that can trace Energon.

 

I have seen more than enough sci-fi shows to know that. Same problem was present in Star Trek: Voyager. The Kazon could build huge ships but did not even know how to make water.

A scanner can do the same and it is highly illogical that they would not have developed one. We are talking about a civilization thas existed for eons and been at war all the time.

 

New technologies are invented all the time and in war time the speed at which developments are made is increased 5-fold just because each side needs to stay ahead of their adversaries.

 

So a scanner should have existed that could detect energon deposits. Especially since Energon is a key resource developing a working scanner would be my top priority.

 

"Kickers a meber of Team Convoy". In that case he certainly should have gotten a speech about disobeying orders and running off into battle half-cocked looking to earn a Darwin Award.

 

Even in a battle zone there is a difference between running around in the open (like Kicker mostly did) or trying to find cover. And once the Energon was discovered I would have raced Kicker out of there as well as all non-essential personnel leaving only a skeleton crew of miners and defenses present.
