The War Within Grimlock scratch build

Recommended Posts

Lookin killer!! I`m just as excited about seeing him completed as I am about to get BT Prowl!

Also, I have a scratchbuild/kitbash on the horizon and was just wondering what you recommend for an adhesive to use on the plastic parts or any tips where durability is a must? Thanks in advance, WM.

I use cement glue for plastics and loctite super glue.  The Loctite is really just like any other super glue but it comes in an easy to dispense bottle.  The cement glue works great because it pretty much melts the plastic pieces together.  If you haven't bought the styrene yet, I recommend 0.40 inch thick sheets.  Thick enough for durability but thin enough to cut fairly easily.  You can use thinner sheets for detailing.

That head looks great VP!  Scratch built or borrowed?

Scupted myself.  I used Alt Wheeljack as the base.  Heavily modified it though.  I originally was going to have TFM make the head for me but thought it would be more meaningful for me if I made it myself.  Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Here's a better look at the head scuplt.  Something wrong with it to me though.  The teeth makes it look like an orc.  But then he's suppose to have those teeth.  Anyone else think that way too?

Head seem small to me too at first, but then that's the size of the head compared to the body as seen in the comics, in Don's concept art, and even 10 fingers rendition so I went with it.  I guess Don wanted to make him look like a brute by drawing him that way.

That total scratch build of WW Grimlock is looking really good VP. What exactly did you build his body out of?

I mostly used styrene.  I used wood as well as scuplting putty in some parts.  I know in the pics it doesn't look like styrene which is probably why you asked what I used.  It's because I mold casted the parts.  The resin was dyed gray so that it'll show up better in pics (versus white which is the color of undyed resin). It seems I added more dye to some parts than others which is why you see different shades of gray.  I'll paint it when it's done so that doesn't matter to me.

Edit: Oh yeah, I also used bionicles for the joints.

that bash is sick VP! totally sick! even better than your alt-wheeljack. :thumb
