Have you ever picked up a TF toy only to not buy it?

Recommended Posts

Was at Target yesterday and I saw Generations Tracks and Jazz on the pegs. Pulled them off and started walking towards the register, but ultimately I set them down in a different part of the store and walked out empty handed. Transformer collecting is a bad time for me, as I don't have expendable money nor do I have anywhere to store them other than a box in my closet. So even though I wanted them and could have "afforded" them yesterday, I will regret not getting them as I want to get back into Transformer collecting but I knew deep down I shouldn't be buying these; which has been this way for 2 years now. I will have to purchase back Transformer remakes through Ebay or second hand dealers once my situation gets better and I am working again. Wheeljack might send me over the edge though. I will sacrifice a day's lunch to be able to get him. :D

Anyways, has anyone else ever been wishy-washy on purchasing a certain toy but ultimately let reason win over and walked out of a store empty handed?

Yup. I've done that before, at Toys R Us once. I'm honestly surprised nobody called the men in white coats.

I can't remember which two Transformers I had this issue on:

I had grabbed a Transformer, walked about 10 paces away, turned around, went back to the TF and put the Transformer back, grabbing the other one. I repeated this about 5 times, the entire time mumbling to myself "No no no...I think I'll get the other one" as I walked back, grabbing the previous one I had. Finally, after a few minutes of this, I left the Transformer(s) on the shelves and decided to just leave the store.

Ultimately, it wasn't reason that won over. It was confusion. :lol

HAHAHAHA...you sound like me yesterday, Taaron. I was literally walking in and out of the toy aisle trying to decide whether to buy them or set them back on the pegs. It was a busy day in the store too, with a lot of hot mom's walking by the toy aisle, so I am sure people were looking at me going "WTF is this dude's problem?" :lol

I especially do this when it's a case of "Do I have lunch today, or buy plastic crack" :tflaugh

I think these days I literally measure things to be bought in TF figure equivilence. for exmple, a McDonalds, or a legends figure. lol

I've done it countless times. In and out the same aisle, starring at the item as I walk towards the registers and thinking do I really need it? Temptation is a MFer!

I almost thought I was the only one that did this. Bad personal economy and all there are still a few I only wished I was able to swing by and pick up again. MP Grimlock will be a hard find for me and Kup was like that for me for a while. Glad I found him while leaving the store.

i generally pick up a repaint and look at it, but rarely purchase, the one exception that i wish i had purchased was the energon repaint of overload into ultra magnus. had him in hand, walked damn near to the register, and put him back.

i seriously kick myself for that now. especially considering the insane prices on ebay.

:emo MP Grimlock.....

From time to time I grab a figure to continue shopping with it only to bail on it. Usually it's because it's a character I'm on the fence about. Usually if the line is too long then I'll definitely bail on it.

For the most part though I buy it first and then decide if I want it. Then I return the fig on another hunting trip if I don't.

I do this every so often. But it's usually if it's a scenario of expecting to find one figure, not being there, but finding a figure I wasn't too excited about instead. I pick him up, get partway to the register, and then turn around and put him back. Out of disappointment, and out of my mother's nagging voice in the back of my head. I was always told not to buy just to buy unless it's what you really want or need. Damn those life lessons sticking with me. So while often times I will settle for another figure, like other things I'm into (Marvel Universe), if it's gonna be a hot item, it's a matter of "buy it or never see it again".
