Shockwave's defining characteristics are being a cyclops and having a huge gun, plus personality things.

 

Machine Wars doesn't count because it had no cartoon.

 

Also, smirk or not, he doesn't fit the pattern! it's a blatant disruption and cannot be accepted! The chest cockpit, back wings, and personality mean NOTHING if his character essence isn't captured! And that essence DEFINITELY includes his psychotic love of destruction, symbolized by the smirk or grin he always wears in a fight.

 

Waspinator's mouth CAN have that happy-ish appearance to it also. That's why it worked fine for that episode. But if SS ever looked like that always, it would fail.

 

It's not even just the smirk either, it's the fact that his head NEVER changes in appearance until the movie stupidly tries to. The head design is written in stone just like Optimus Prime, Jazz, Soundwave, and Shockwave's heads.

 

Therefore he is NOT STARSCREAM!

 

 

 

Lets see:

Starscream still has a gray/silver color scheme. Still has arm weapons, still has a cockpit on his chest. Still has wings on his back, all same as G1.....That doesn't sound like a "few" parts. He's still Megatron's bitch, still commands the skies, and still is a coward.

 

Ok, so his head/face isn't accurate, but as already mentioned, look at Ironhide, Ratchet, Scorponok, Frenzy, Bonecrusher, Demolisher, Ravage, the Constructicons/Devastator etc...

 

Um...Starscream's supposed to be RED and white. The silver on Hellscream here is already wrong...

 

All of the TFs you listed there ALWAYS have different heads in every cartoon. They DON'T have designs kept the same like SS does.

 

And again, G1 homage body parts don't mean shit when they're plastered onto an ugly, fat, and absurdly wide body with a completely wrong face design!

 

It's NOT about G1 only, it's about ALL CARTOONS TO DATE! When the head design never changes in ANY continuity, that tells you something. It tells you it's MEANT to look that way and it's part of who the character is! THAT'S why Optimus Prime, Soundwave, Shockwave, and Jazz got to keep the same heads and THAT'S why this ugly pile of shit is NOT STARSCREAM!!!

I really hope you're just trolling and not really the obsessed individual you come off as, cause if you actually are, then movie Starscream's "problems" should be the least of your worries. Three films, and four years later and you're still this bent out of shape? Maybe you should pick up another hobby and/or get out and get some fresh air. No. Shockwave is still purple, still has the same body mass, still has a huge gun on his arm, and still has the same head as always.

 

You only have one of those right. He's purple. The rest of it, though, is wrong.

He has a mono-eye, but his head is quite circular, where as the G1 head is boxy and pointy. His gun is on the left, and not the right, he's a tank not a gun, he had skinny legs originally, and muscular legs now.

 

He's not Shockwave! .....Sounds kind of silly, doesn't it?

 

 

He's still Shockwave, with a new design. Same with Starscream. You're quality of Starscream-isms doesn't quite hold water. As they said, with Waspinator, Waspinator couldn't smirk, yet when he was possessed by Starscream, he was Starscream. Machine Wars Starscream, looked nothing like Starscream, and yet was still characterized as Starscream.

 

You say Energon Starscream is Starscream, but due to the qualities everyone has listed for Starscream, he's not. He was Megatron/Galvatron's lapdog. He wasn't ambitious or traitorous, he had no personality at all. Your main Starscream defining trait was Starscream's smirk. He didn't smirk. (He isn't smirking in your sig, either.)

If in the future, Hasbro did a Starscream that was nice to children, the elderly, puppies and kittens, and respected his commanders...yet still smirked while doing so, would you expend this much energy on declaring him not Starscream, or accept him as Starscream due to his 'smirk'?

Again... you point out your sig.. and I simply don't see either Energon OR Cybertron SS smirking ... Yes the face is totally different. Hate to bring it up AGAIN, but so are MOST of the movie heads with a few exceptions. You can reject him all you want, but the simple fact is, he is Starscream just as much as the others are. You've been repeatedly boiling it all down to the smirk and the "essence" of Screamer, yet you're not looking at the character as a whole .. only what works in favor of your agruement, anything that points towards this being SS you claim "doesn't count". Sorry, but that's :BS It's all or nothing, and unfortunately for you, when EVERYTHING is taken into consideration about what makes up a character, this IS Starscream. And it's not denial, it's accepting the fact that, while it may not be the perfect Starscream, this is still A VERSION of Starscream.

But I'm not calling him that. He doesn't earn the right to have the name. You don't disrupt 20+ year old patterns! It's not the smirk, it's the goddamn PATTERN! I mean christ, his body style always varies in each continuity. Even chunkier in cybertron. In the movie, Hellscream's body is also ok and could've passed off as SS. But while SS's body changes from time to time, his head does NOT.

 

But yet it does in the movie. That's unacceptable. Therefore there's NO way he could possibly be Starscream
