Protector Armor

Recommended Posts

Okay, to anyone who got the new Fansproject Protector Armor Rodimus Upgrade.

Is the head supposed to just sit on his head without going down all the way? It looks kinda awkward from some angles, mine just sits and stops at the vents/"ears" on the side of Hot Rod's head.

My other question is does anyone have any ideas as to who the next Fansproject figure is gonna be? All it says on the last page is 20,000 BC. Not old enough to have been one of the Dinobots.

Yes to the head, it just rests on Rodimus's actual head. It uses the "vents/ears" as a point of articulation detail, and the rest of the head as a "neck".

As for 20,000 BC, it's most likely going to be FP's "Ice Age" combiner set, a new set of figures not based off any previous Transformer characters.

Yeah, it just sits there, you can lower the face a bit if you're one of those people who doesn't like seeing Hot Rod's chin... or you can just angle the whole head down.

As for that silhouette, its that combiner Taaron speaks of, which FP announced at BotCon 2009:

Thanks again to FP! Theyre the BEST!

Protector is nice.

A great update to Classics Rodimus...

I pulled the face plate down just a enough to see some silver above the blue eyes. It "hides" Rods chin just a bit... But it dosnt bother me one bit. The silver chin just looks like a silver neck to me...

I'm more bothered by the arms and shoulder articulation. Its kinda tight up there!

I almost wish I could pull out Rods arms a half inch more. On the two side slides...

Legs barely clip in but they sure hold on tight. Its amazing!

Gun is cool. But I have to position Rods original on its side to fit Protectors fists and forearm...

I dont care for the base. Its nice, just not my style...

Score: 8 / 10

How does the head sit on the origonal Hot Rod head? Is it a tight fit? Does it feel like It'll fall off if you have him upside down? Just wondering.

Its a snug fit, the sides and back lightly pinch the head (more the sides though). The front of empty so you can tilt the head down. Won't fall if holding the figure upside down even if the head is not on all the way.

It's tight enough that you can pick the toy up by the head, fully armored up, without it coming off from the weight. The head will only come off the original head when you want to take it off.

Thats AWESOME!! Thats especially what I was wondering about. I really want a set. From all the pictures and videos he just looks too cool. What about the 3-D flames on his chest? Are they flimsey at all?

The flames don't feel flimsy at all, and really don't stick out far enough to be a problem. However, it may just be mine, but the chrome spoiler pieces from Sidearm don't stay connected to the trailer together very well. They may be just slightly too wide. Added with the fact that the chrome appears to be a fingerprint magnet, and that black, triangular pieces rest uncomfortably close underneath the spoiler pieces, just don't swap the spoiler parts if intending to display the set with the Henkei! version. Only use the chromed pieces for the robot mode, as they feel a lot more gentle to the original toy's spoiler on mine.

Does anyone know if there's anywhere you can store Sidearm when you have Rodimus in vehicle mode with his trailer?
