How did G1 officially end?

Recommended Posts

That's why the Japanese and US continuites are separate branches. Up through Season three, they tell the same story, but after that, they diverge. The only real difference between Japanese and US cartoon continuity up until the end of Season three is the names and the year that Season three takes place (2006 in the US, and 2010 in Japan). As for the Beast era. the Maximals and Predacons didn't exist until three hundred years after the events of G1. They ended up traveling back in time via transwarp. That is how they ended up in the past. Beast Wars 2, Beast Wars Neo, and Beast Machines all take place securely in the future of the G1 continuity, as does Wreckers and Universe.

I'd go so far to argue that not even S3 is accurate versus Headmasters. If you look at the first few shows, you'll see S1 characters that were clearly killed off in the 1986 movie actively battling in the Headmasters scenes. Also, the whole explanation of Vector Sigma, the mythos behind the Matrix, etc. is completely different from any of the US anime concepts that were established. Heck, even between the Japanese series there's little continuity. Masterforce and 2010 weren't linear to each other in most respects. At least Victory was more plausible. Now, this could be because I've seen the Thai fandubs (which are horrid) and things might have been lost in the translation.

No, the only difference between US Season three and Japanese Season three is the names of the characters and the year they take place. Takara did take other series (such as Car Robots, Binaltech, and Kiss Players) and place them in the five year gap between the movie and 2010. This is the only other real divergence from US cartoon continuity. Part of your confusion is indeed probably a result of you watching the Thai subs and dubs. Check the subs on Youtube. They're much better. Regardless, Headmasters is specifically established as being the direct sequel to Season three in Japan.

Why would this topic ever ever ever be started?

ROFLMAO!!!! :rofl :rofl :rofl

Classics is a "splinter continuity" off of the main Marvel US continuity where the events of Marvel UK and G2 never happened. Here's a chart from back in early 2006 of the Multiverse as established up to that point: Continuities.png

This chart precedes the Classics-verse, Movie-verse, TFA, etc. thus making it a bit outdated. If you were to add Classics in, it would branch off on its own from the main Marvel US line with no connection to either G2 or Marvel UK.

Wow, this is really cool, thanks. I think I might even have some of the G2 trades. Curious: do most fans accept the Japanese G1 toons (post-Rebirth)as canon?

P.S. I'd love for the next Transformers game to be a sequel to G1 & Beast Machines. Show us what happens next.

Everything officially produced under Hasbro and Takara license is canon.

Not neccesarily... it depends on the property, and Transformers fans may feel differently, but typically when the core fiction appears onscreen (be it television or movies), and supplemental materials appear in print, it's only the on-screen events that are considered canon. Take Star Wars or Star Trek, for example. The movies and TV series are generally held to be canon, whereas the novels, comics, video games, etc are not (and in many cases directly contradict events seen in film [see Boba Fett/Jango Fett/Jaster Maree]).

In the same way, it is often difficult or impossible to reconcile events that take place in Transformers comics or other media with what was already seen on film... and it's silly to even try, IMO. Supplemental sci-fi works to popular series will always just be fun little "what if" scenarios, and nothing to be taken too seriously.

Yeah, exactly. I'd think that the divergence of the US cartoon series ending while the Japanese one continued would be strange/hard to reconcile. (I was kind of bummed to learn that Prime died AGAIN and Ultra Magnus died. Man!)

That's just it, they don't have to reconcile because the Japanese continuity after Season Three is a branch continuity. It splits off from US cartoon continuity before Rebirth. In US continuity, the war ended with Rebirth and Beast Wars picks up about three hundred years later. In Japan, Rebirth never happens. Instead, they have Headmasters, and its sequels as its own branch off from Season three.

Think of the multiverse as a tree. Each continuity is a branch off of that tree that constantly diverge and (sometimes) converge at different points. The US and Japanese G1 continuities after season three are a prime example of this, as is Marvel with its divergent branches. All of them happen.

Tramp- you my man have debate tactics down.I have seen you many times come with very depicting lines of perfect explanation for me, thank you.......

I'd say G1 ended when the first toys that said "Generation 2" were released. Thing is that G1 not only ended then, it started then too, since it wasn't called Generation 1 until we have a Generation 2. Before that it was just all "Transformers".

Well, yeah, but it's the same characters. I know talking about TFormers continuity is bound to end in headaches -- I'm not a newbie or nothin' -- but there is stuff I haven't seen/am not entirely clear on. Tramp is The Master!

I interviewed Simon Furman a few years back and suggested/asked if he'd do a sequel to Beast Machines. Would love to see it.

For those who missed it, the story from Beast Machines DID continue in several comics. Read the 3H Wreckers and Universe comics, the club voice plays, and the text story from Fub Publications finishes it up. It's set on Cybertron, after the big reformatting. Cheetor and Rattrap are there, Cybertron is technoganic. Magnaboss runs Cybertron, Optimus Primal, Depth Charge and Rhinox are returned to life from the Allspark. A couple of G1 Autobots return to Cybertron.

Long story short, it never ended. Just when you thought it did, it came back in some way and will come back in some way.

Why would this topic ever ever ever be started?

Some people never learn?

Anyway

G1 ended after Operation Combination, During The Headmasters Series, Cybertron became a burnt out husk, because of Lord Zarak. Thus negating BW and BM, as BW is an alternate timeline, that feed directly into BWII and BWNeo. Beast Machines was a nightmare that Wreck-Gar had after drinking too much Energon Beer, he was thus bitch slapped back to sobriety by Primus, due to this fact BM never truly occurred. This is proven by the fact that BWII occurs thousands of years after BW, and BM. Thus negating the events of BM, as to never actually happen.

Oh and anything from 3H and The OTFCC, is not real and utterly worthless as far as canon goes
