Okay, Binaltech vs. Alternators

Recommended Posts

The BT's ave their issues like paint chipping and unstable weight distribution in bot mode.

Those are my two main concerns about the binaltechs also. A question here for anyone that knows...

The Honda s2000 versions of Binaltech Overdrive seems to have a different head sculpt (also different paint apps) to its alternator counter-part Windcharger (atleast from what I've seen in the pictures floating around). Can anyone confirm this?

Also do you think the gun-barrel will be included with overdrive?

When you look at it in a Skullfire way, you're better of buying Alternators. I myself do not play with the BT's and use them solely as display pieces. As such they are the preferred choice. If you want to play with 'em, Alts are the better choice. I always go with the main line if I want something to play with, I go with BT if I want something to look at.

Alts, the quality on mine ahve excee the BTs by some way.

Bt. Alt not worth it over here.

I say Alternators. BTs are just too dang expensive, and I would be afraid to transform them ever. And most Alts look just as good as BTs IMO. I think the biggest difference between Alts and BTs came with the first two releases. Smokescreen should have had a more Tracks-ish plastic used on him, and Sideswipe seriously needed a clearcoat or something. But when I first found out that they were going to paint Silverstreak, I was like "so what's the diff now?"

I can afford to pay $20 for a toy every now and then. $60 or more... no.

I like them both.

I buy a BT which is transformed, placed on the shelf and then rarely touched again - save to repose occasionally. I usually pick up the Alt version to transform back and forth, repaint or keep me company at work (only a couple at a time).

Overall, the only BTs I feel look superior to the Alts are Smokes, 'Swipe and Dead End - due to superior paint applications (I expect that Overdrive will look better than Windcharger for the same reason). The others with the metallic flake-fused plastic look essentially the same - in fact, Takara doesn't even bother to paint the plastic body panels on these guys.

I like both now too. In the beginning I really only liked Bt`s. Especially with Smokescreen`s paint job. It`s still one of the best IMO. Mine are for general display anyway, so I don`t play with them, hence no need to worry about chipping. When transforming my Bt`s, I`m real careful. Same way when i wipe. If an Alts paint job and Bt look identical I`ll go with the Alt. (ex. Shrimplock)But if a Bt has something a little more unique like a better paint app. or the intended gun barrel for a certain bot then that`s what I`ll get. I still prefer the Bt diecast and the packaging even though I can`t understand the frickin` writing. Like everyone else, I wish Hasbro would do a unique story for the Alts.

Also, maybe some of you toy experts can shed some light on this one.

The reason why we didn`t get the long smokestacks with 20th Prime from what I understand is the safety issue? Ala some little kid poking his eye out? Not sure.

But if that`s the case why does Armada/Energon Unicron have giant spikes on his shoulders and arms? Yes they are made of rubber, so why couldn`t they do that with Primes smokestacks?

Didn`t mean to get of this repeated topic, I`m just curious. I could not find an answer in the hundreds of 20th Prime threads either. :wave

The safety issue with the smokestacks isn't just that they stick out, it's that they could break off and make a sharp plastic shard of doom or something. Unicron's spikes can't break off like that so they're okay. Plus if the smokestacks were made of rubber they wouldn't necessarily stand up straight -- if they get warped in production, you're gonna be displaying a limp-stacked Prime on your shelf, which would look pretty lame IMO.

Oh, please, not this again.

Here's my stance: If Hasbro made die cast Alternators, I'd pay a little more for them, but they don't. If I lived in Japan, I'd buy BinalTech, but I don't. So, for all practical purposes, I prefer Alternators.
