Okay, Binaltech vs. Alternators

Recommended Posts

1. Alts rock, they cost less and they hold up more

2. Binaltechs I don't know about, but I'm hoping to get a Zooom-zoom soon. So I'm not going to knock on them.

I prefer $20 figures that are light and made of durable plastic than buying the exact same figure thats just got metal instead and twice the cost. It's just my preference. I only buy takara toys when it can't be gotten in US.

Alternators. Just as good as Binaltech for the most part. They're not heavy and they are affordable.

Well, since I only get paid minimum wage, I'll stick to Alternators. Besides, they're easier to maintain.

BTW, I just got Grimlock in the mail last night. Difficult as hell to transform, but it was definitely worth the wait.

Alternators for me as well.

Don't care about future value, and I really don't care for diecast.

Since I got my masters and have been working for several years now, I can splurge a little. Don't collect anything outside of BT, but do have the MPOP and will be getting GC-01.

For me it's BT. I don't play with mine, just get them for nostalgia and their frickin' cool. The diecast reminds me of TFs of old. Smokes is the one I've TFormed the most, and that's only 5 times maybe. I've modded Tracks and Swipes, but other than that it's the overall package that does it for me. That and I really dig the packaging, booklet, and card that comes with them. Jazz came with an Autobot decal as well!

Anyways, to each his own. I just like BT. Whatever you can afford though. Don't break the bank dude! You're obligations MUST come first!! Nothin wrong with ALTS IMO.

Happy New Year!!

To date I have collected BT's 1-8. Reading that the paint is delicate I have left them MISB.

For display purposes I bought a few Alternators (Silverstreak, Hound and Dead End). Off the bat, I was pleased with Hasbro versions. The only gripe I had was that the black plastic used for Dead End is noticeably flat. But for 20.00 bucks, it is still a great TF.

It wasn't until recently that I finally decieded to open one of my BT's. I chose to open the white Meister. I was surprised by the weight of the metal in robot mode. I couldn't get Meister to stand comfortably without bending his knees. Since the BT is top heavy, the "heel" tabs for the feet don't support the weight as well as Alternator Silverstreak (who has similar feet).

Anyways since I had BT Meister open, I went ahead and bought the Jazz stickers from Reprolabels. After applying the stickers, I accidentally dropped Meister in alt mode about one foot from a carpeted floor. The connecting piece for the drivers side door snapped off. Man was I upset. My Alternator Hound has been knocked of my desk and the only thing that happened to him was that the gun flew out of his hand! I therefore glued the broken piece back and put BT Meister back in his box.

Conclusion: BT are great toys and superior to Alternators in some ways. But the practicality of Alternators cannot be overlooked. They are significantly cheaper and easier to pose. In my house I have litte room to display my TFs, so the weight and paint factors are issues. If you can minimalize your interaction with your BT's, then I recommend for you to buy them and open them. But if you like the "play" factor of the this great series, get Alternators. I would definitely suggest getting any Alternator that has a metallic looking paint job. It makes a world of difference and it really does look similar to its Binaltech counterpart.

P.S. After transforming BT Meister for a second time from alt to robot, I notice a paint chip underneath the passenger door (this was before the big drop).

How do they hold up more? :tfhuh

I think he is referring to the paint. The paint on the BT's is more likely to chip after a number of transformations. The common downfall of painted diecast.

i have more BT's then alts only cuz of the following...

1. hasbro has for some resion has not bothered with any of the other alts bar silver and smokes

2. BT's temnd to be more like the car their alt mode is ment to be in terms of LHD and RHD, colours and mirrior's

3. BT has a story

4. they come with cool art and a little book with the teach specs and stuff

also they dont cost much more here even if you find a alt grim on ebay by the time you paid extra for postige plus insurance its only going to cost about £5 to get a bt form a shop (not forbiden planet thier a rip off)
