Why isn't there mass changing?

What's the big deal of having Soundwave in the movie anyway? There are many other Decepticons to use whom are better than him.

All I'm saying is that Hardcore G1 Fans have been waiting 20 years for a live action movie where as todays kids only gotta wait a couple of years.

Its history in the making. Transformers have been one of the biggest franchises in the world since they first came out. After waiting so long, some of us just expect more from the movie

Everyones expressing how bad they want Megatron to be a tank or something military, well thats how I feel about wanting him to be a gun. I know its not gonna happen but I shouldn't be criticized for wanting it. I'm not telling anyone that it would be stupid for him to be a tank so why tell me that. All I did was express my opinion and my dissapointment

Nostalgia clouds too many views.

Soundwave being a tape player is silly, to me..just because you grew up on it, it doesn't make it a good idea...Size changing was always the result of poor writing in G1...an inability to come up with a better idea. There is really no logical way to explain something growing 100X it's own size in a live action format, so why even bother with it? It's not about being faithful to G1, or half the characters would be miscolored half the time, the plot continuity would suddenly change at the beginning of each act, and you'd end up with a buncha goofy characters with no personality....

It's good that they're moving on..if anything, you should thank these guys for making G1 actually GOOD...that's to say if they can pull it off.

Im gonna have to say that I agree with Bodycount.

Davidt I understand where your coming from and all that. Still this is a movie a movie has to change certain things for a mainstream audience. Also as much as I like G1 it is honestly very cheeseball and corny in some areas. Having everything emulated almost exact is honestly not a very good idea. If this movie trys to make TF's a little more realistic and gives them more beleivable altmodes it would allow for a great level of refinement for the whole concept and story of G1. Im sorry dude but sometimes things have to be changed in order to tell a better story.

Also a cassette player would be far too outdated. They could make Soundwave a gameboy advance and make the cassettes game cartridges. That would stay true to Soundwave and be modern. The problem? People might think that something like that is lame. It makes more sense for him to be a communications vehicle (like MW Soundwave) and for the tapes to be some kind of sentrys.

I understand that you would prefer things to stay closer to how they were in G1 but think about what your saying. Also if you have been working for 14 years on becoming a script writer for movies you should know better than what you are saying right now. Im sorry dude but take a good look at your ramblings and ask yourself are your expectations realistic. Since they don't seem all that realistic to me. Sometimes things we don't like have to be done in order to make something work. Thats exactly what is happening with this movie and I for one am all for it.

Well for the this whole issue here. I think a lot of people still love the gun mode just as much as you do. Though I can't speak for everyone. It's more of an issue that they don't feel it would work for the film. I guess you have a right to some extent to feel disapointed by it. I mean I for one have always felt disapointed with how the original cartoon in some instances made Megatron's gun mode not seem as compelling as it could have been. I mean what was with the whole fact that he couldn't fly or become the same size like Shockwave. Anyways theres always something we will be disapointed about. If anything I think the gun mode is much better for things like the comics. As long as they have good writers that can make that mode very effective and find ways for it to make perfect sense through clever writing. In a movie though things have to be simplified. A lot of stuff has to cut straight to the action. Scenes in which Megatron might use the gun mode for stealth and for tricking the Autobots might just not work as well in a film. Also people might find a larger vehicle more compelling.

This has to be something that spans the generational gap. They'll probably have all new modes left and right, the only vaguely recognizable two will probably be Prime as a semi and Megs as a tank. But the big thing is, WE DON'T KNOW! Stop being such a defeatist, you're not the only one who ever liked transformers and you won't see the movie for YEARS, not minutes, YEARS!!!!

This persistent, childish tantrum throwing is what our least favorite mod is kept around for, don't follow his example. Just keep a stiff upper lip and reserve your judgements until you're out $8 and sitting in the theater in a few YEARS.

i agreed with all your points but this one just made me giggle :tflaugh

I don't see what this has to do with anything.

Those "only a couple of years" kids are what keeps the brand alive, once again...you should be the one appreciating them, not the other way around. The G1 fanbase hasn't done much but complain at Hasbro and verbally insult all of the products they work so hard to make, while kids are loving them....I'm personally gonna be telling the G1 fanbase to shove it when I'm making a movie for Transformers fans. Besides, with what you just said, do you think kids have no right to be seeing it or something? Seniority doesn't count in geek fandoms...

Let me make a point here...

Kids =! fandom

Adults = fandom

This applies for Transformers the most but not for all fandom.

don't see what this has to do with anything.

Exactly. We aren't entitled to anything Davidt. Hasbro and the company making this film are businesses interested in making a product that not only entertains but captivates a mainstream audience so that they could make money. If Hasbro and the filmakers feel that making Soundwave a tape and Megatron a gun would make them money then they would. This is all about what ends up selling. Not about what we all personally like. If there are any tidbits of what we like thrown here and there it's still going to have to be altered enough for it to sit well with todays generation. A good example of having to do something that sells is romantic scenes that are in most movies. I don't care much for romantic scenes in movies but I know that I have to suffer them since their there to make the movie more appealing to audiences. So don't cry if you see a lot of romantic crap between Carly and Spike. :tfpuke

okay what about... scrapping the whole G1 thing (dont kill me for saying it) or at least the retelling idea and build off what alot of us are happy with right now, the Alternators.... they are great toys, licensed by big auto companies (think business that means money), they currently dont have a story like binaltechs, Real Cars + Real People = Live Action + Real Cars, IT JUST SEEMS REALLY EASY TO MAKE THIS WORK FOR EVERYONE, old characters - new bodies... see...

there is a good chance that more auto companies will jump on the bandwagon once they know a live big buget film is in the works, WE MIGHT EVEN GET VW BumbleBee, think of all the success of car movies + comic movies lately (dont think about catwoman and punisher) and if they dont have another success soon (maybe spiderman 3) then they might just stop this new movie craze.......

and be worried they may have to make soundwave a 2005 black Hummer with Rumble and Ravage as a 4 wheeler and dirt bike,

Major changes but truely staying with the idea of ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. (sp)
