Why isn't there mass changing?

Recommended Posts

They can still make the movie with G1 megs and soundwave by not having those characters transform on screen. It would be no big deal.

You go ahead and do that

If you were a true Transformer fan you would agree

Dude, don't bring that attitude here.

Secondly, it's gonna break your heart to see that characters named "Bumblebee" and "Hotrod" won't be in the movie because of Hasbro not owning the name rights...

And if its exactly like the original, why make it? The movie is going to expand on all generations, whether ya like it or not...You're not the only fan, and G1 fans make up only about 18% of the fan base. Most of them are kids who are into Armada and Energon, and Hasbro would be foolish to not cater to them. They're the real fans, and unless you realize that, then you aren't supporting Transformers the way you should be.

Bodycount: 1 Flamers: 0

Seriously everyone. These are toys. This is a movie. Remember why they both exist.

To be very honest, I don't really care that much about this upcoming movie. Don't get me wrong, I will go see it and buy it on DVD the moment it's out, but that's about it. Didn't (and don't) really care about the first movie as well. It's nice that there are plans to make a TF movie, but to me it has been and always will be the comics that tell the TF story.

As for the size changing thing. Who bloody cares!!! That was just G-1 and no more. Being the leader of the very evil Decepticons and changing to a gun (shooting bullets and lasers) is dumb!!! If I were Megatron I would change into a tank or cannon. Something really powerful. (Optimus Prime: "Oh, I'm scared. I'm being threatened by a 40 cm handgun" just doesn't cut it - while a tank or huge cannon does!)

Soundwave as a tape player/walkman...do these things still exist? Let him be a car carrier (with the cassettes as other cars) with a really big claxon, or something else. He doesn't have to be a tape player to still carry the name Soundwave or be Megatron's communications officer.

I’d be very much surprised if the movie wouldn't start all over with the story, just like they did with the X-men, Spiderman and every other movie like that. They'd want to pull in as many viewers as possible and that simply isn't possible with continuing the G-1 storyline (or any other): the audience who isn’t G-1 fan wouldn’t know what’s going on (besides, which continuity would you want them to follow: cartoon, US comic, UK comic, Dreamwave comic?). So they will probably start anew. Besides, those who grew up on G-1 will want to see G-1, those who grew up on BW will want to see that, and the same for the current young fans and their series. Making it a G-1 movie following the G-1 story will mean a very limited audience and a big loss for the movie company.

G-1 (to BM) is my favorite continuity (just don’t seem to get really interested in the RiD/Armada/Energon stories or characters -- really do like the toys), but let the movie be a story for all fans. Not just G-1. The G-1 fans have three novels, BT/ALT and excellent comics (even three series). Let that be enough, and let us be very thankful we have even that.

(And don’t ever make a comment like: "if you were a real TF fan, then…", it’s dumb and you offend many people.)

I am just looking forward to the fantastic visual goodie that the movie is likely to be. And frankly put I am more looking to a good story then a G1 accurate thing that only lightly makes any sense. Don't forget the g1 cartoon was made around existing toys and not the other way around. Now they have the chance to make characters that make more sense then how they had to fit in stuff from diaclone/microman/etc.

Their parents can order it. NO BIG DEAL!

Think outside the box for a change people

Yep.

Hollywood is going to spend 100 million dollars or so on a movie based on a toyline and just let the existing one store-exclusive-gotta-get-some-of-the-toys-in-Japan toyline act as the public's only connection to the movie.

Because everyone knows merchandising is the least of Hollywood's concerns for it's summer blockbusters. Not when there's a miniscule fraction of America who are clinging to some 20 year old pieces of plastic to consider. :roll I thought you said you wanted to be a screenwriter...have you any idea how Hollywood works?

Why haven't geeks across America learned anything from Spider-Man's organic webshooters or the X-Men's leather costumes? I'm personaly not letting go of my 20 year old pieces of plastic, but I'd never expect anyone else to want to watch a movie about them. But a movie inspired by them...that'll be awesome.

I dont know if someone wrote this already but

If, in the original transformers not just in Dreamwave, they explain why it was that certain Transformers could change mass, do you think it would be a problem today? Transformer fictional technology is Millions of years ahead of ours. If BT Smokescreen GT can have a missle teleported to his cannon every time he fires his shoulder cannon, why cant he change size? He can also split into 3 other Smokescreens.

It's just like the X-Men. If through some glitch in their programing they are able to shrink in size or in Astrotrain's case, grow in size, what's wrong with that? It's their special(Mutant) ability. As long as they explain it then I wouldn't have a problem.

I don't mind sizechanging, as long as it's used by the appropriate characters, like Soundwave, Astrotrain and the Pretenders. And it would be interesting if it would backfire on them, as part of the unstable technology. Would be nice to see, but I can live without it.

I am so glad there is a TF movie.

I am so glad they are trying to make it make some sort of physical sense

I am so glad they are going to produce toys based on this movie

I am so glad Megatron will not be a pointless, useless, weak, little gun :P

Mass changing was a cop out... deal with it.

This movie is going to have merchandise that has to cater to the younger croud since they hold 76% market share :roll

I'd have more to say but its all already been said

VIVA THE ORGANIC WEBSHOOTERS :clap

Mass changing isn't much of the problem. It was actually done in a recent movie. Remember the Hulk? Regardless of what you think with it, the point of taking is that whenever Hulk shrinks back to Banner, where does the extra mass go? I mean he's like a couple of feet taller and heck of a lot bigger. But I guess most people don't notice that, in Transformers on the other hand, if a big-ass bot transforms into something you can fit into your pocket, there could be issues.

What the problem is the impracticality of the characters in G1 who practice mass-changing. Why turn into a small pistol or a cassette deck? Why not transform into a big-ass vehicle with guns blazing? Decepticons are themed to transform into weapons of war these days, and Soundwave and Megatron would go best as military vehicles.

The Decepticons were, I hate to do this, Instruments of destruction and tools of foul play. That means they dont have to just be military vehicles but also all types of spy tools and weapons. Not to mention Transformers is all about Robots in Disguise. What better way to to disguise yourself then to turn into something seemingly innocent. Soundwave was a spy he could be in and out of high security areas without being noticed. If fighting is absolutely nessesary he doesnt have to stay a tape deck he could turn back into a two story robot wip out his two guns and start kicking ass. Not to mention he had flying abilities even in radio mode if things get hairy he could shrink down and escape easier. If I could fly, could incapacitate other robots using sounds and had an army of robots at my disposal then I wouldn't be worried no matter what I changed into.
