Beast Wars is the BEST!

Alright, G1 premise (which is what set TF's apart from other transforming robot toys, including the dismal Diaclone & Microman) = Marvel Comics (US). And while Dreamwave did a spectacular job, what really made BW special was the writing. And I believe (not certain, but pretty sure) Forward and Ditillio eat their fries without mayonaise.

Anyway, as for whether Primal had a matrix or not, BW never said he did, and didn't explicitly say he didn't, but if it were the writer's intention that he had one, 'Coming of the Fuzors 2', 'Optimal Situation' and several other shows dealing with Primal's physiology would have been great opportunities for them to have brought that subject up.

As for holding BW2 and Neo as cannon, well, outside Japan there are very few that do, and for good reason. The writing of BW was of a much higher caliber than that of BW2 and Neo. Also, the only 'official' source of new BW entertainment is Dreamwave, and I HIGHLY doubt that they'll regard the events of BW2 and Neo as unbendable cannon they way that they do with BW. They'll make reference to it (Big Convoy being shown in Armada comic's 'World's Collide' story), they may even pick and choose to keep certain aspects of it that work for them, but they won't tiptoe around it making sure their new stories don't contradict anything laid out in the shows like they will with BW. Hell, they've already shown pictures of Magnaboss, sans kabuki make-up, as being in a position to hold judgement over Primal.

Also, you need to keep in mind that Aeon's use of Primal was like a fledgling or poor-selling comic title using a guest appearance of a popular character to garner sales. A perfect example that I can remember from my childhood was seeing the Punisher do a cameo in a kiddie comic titled Power Pack. The Punisher, while not as well written as BW, was a serious comic (there's really no way to kiddify the Punisher), while Power Pack was about a bunch of toddlers with super powers fighting crime in their footy pajamas. And though this may surprise you, there was never any mention of these events in the pages of Punisher's own titles. So, to expect Dreamwave or any other entity that will handle BW characters (much less Bob and Larry) to take BW2 or Neo into account as strict cannon is laughable. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they get LioConvoy or other charactes involved, but the events of the BW2 movie (Primal showing up to help fight Galvatron & Mega Zarak) will not have existed in the Dreamwave universe. And might I add, thank God.

Gotta eat something in our igloos.

Also keep in mind that Forward and DiTillio weren't quite sure themselves exactly what the "Matrix" referred to. Sometimes it was kind of like Transformers nirvana / heaven where sparks would go when TFs die. And then there's the somewhat confusing sequence in "Optimal Situation" where Primal takes Prime's spark out of his chest -- and Prime's spark just happens to be encased in a very very very Matrix-y looking device. Rhinox' comment that Prime's spark "has the Matrix with it" made me wonder exactly what Primal was "absorbing." I know that the writers' intention was simply to show Primal absorbing Prime's spark, and that it wasn't supposed to be "The" Matrix, but still from a visual standpoint that's exactly what it looked like.

:cop RETCON alert! :cop

Or do we suppose that post-G1, the Matrix isn't the same thing that it used to be? Remember that the Matrix was emptied at the end of "The Return of Optimus Prime." Could it have been re-purposed to contain not just the sparks (or whatever) of Autobot leaders, but of all Autobots? Optimus Prime himself said of the empty Matrix, "It's up to all of us to fill it again." Just a thought.

Didn't Primal have the matrix in Beast Machines?!?!

"It's up to all of us to fill it again." Just a thought.

Good point

Didn't Primal have the matrix in Beast Machines?!?!

The only time Primal ever came near a Matrix was when he opened up Prime's chest and took his spark.

The TF Heavan they are refering too was called the "Matrix Zone" in japan just a thought.

And Prime's Spark looked like the matrix becuse, it was a decoy,

Beneath the Sleepers Spark, that wich it protected... THE MATRIX OF LEADERSHIP(Vok; Primeval Dawn)

P.S. The Matrix was recharged by Alpha Trion in Headmasters :tftongue

Actually, for the record, G1 started out as an american production, much like GI-Joe.. thats why if you watch the credits to G1 you'll see a majority of non-jap names listed. What happened, was some guys in Japan, I believe, wanted to bring over the diaclones here.. or somethin to that effect.. but they wanted a show to go along with it to market them. So the dudes in Hasbro took over production of the cartoon, and they started writing the story.. hell.. watch the speical features disc in G1 Season 1.. they explain it for you.. it wasn't untill season 3 that the guys in Japan took over the franchise..

Primal had no matrix.. that much I believe.. he was just some shmuck stuck in a bad situation trying to keep his team together. Thats what I liked about him.. he's not some godsend robot guy, he's just an average joe.. The Jap guys probably wanted him to have a matrix being he came from another demention to tie it into their continuity.. and I doubt the guys here in america had little consideration towards what the guys overseas were brewing.. they probably didn't talk much about it, only to sell off the american molds to them to use however they seemed fit..

But ya know, if you were to put the two side by side.. Their beastwars against ours, I think ours had better ideas than theres.. and as I recall they bit a lot of ideas off from ours.. I'd prefer Primal over Lioconvoy/Bigconvoy anyday..

hhhhmmmmm, they were Animated in japan, I should change Produced to animated,

BTW The ConvoyII(Primal) in BW2 was from the same Dimension as BW2 and BWNeo, It just wasn't the US Dimension.

hhhhmmmmm, they were Animated in japan, I should change Produced to animated,

Not pullin your leg dude.. go watch the interveiw.. believe me, I was confused for the longest times about G1's origin.. it may be animated in Japan but everything is animated overseas.. but them's american writers.. I kid ya not.
