Ok, don't get me wrong I still buy a lot of the repaint figures but is anyone else a little bothered by how many there are. It seems like now that they only come out with about 5-10 different TF figures but repaint those thousands of times to make it look like they have more figures out than there really are. I know that a lot of the TF's look the same other than color but can't they add a little more variety.

Take for instance the large number of motor cycle transformers. There are a lot of them out there that are pretty much the same figure just with different colors and from a different set. Couldn't they give us a little more variety?

Just wondering what everyon else thought....

I voted Repaints are fine and don't hurt anything.

1.)With repaints, it gives folks a chance to pick up molds they may of missed during original release.

2.)It helps the company recoup the costs on the molds, this goes towards more R&D, and as such, more brand new toys.

3.)It also helps fill in gaps to the toyline, during slow periods.

You know I guess I wouldn't be as bothered by it if the repaints didn't come so close together and the market was so flooded by them. My example above was all the RC repaints. I think I have seen about 6 of the exact same bikes with different names and colors all released withing like 2 years of each other.

I think repaints are nice to have but not when you have so many come out at the same time.

Yeah, nobody is forced to buy a repaint either. I would be bothered by it if it meant that it's costing us new molds, but I doubt that. Even if they didn't issue any repaints I doubt we'd get more new molds. Maybe less, as pointed out by item 2 above.

Well, we could use the Energon combiners for that example. Hasbro has said that if they had done five new molds per combiner, we would of only received two combiner teams. They went the route of three new molds, with two repeats per combiner, to release three combiners teams.

Repaints don't bother me nearly as much as overuse of apostrophes.

Ummm, would that have been a bad thing... I'm not sure if you are making an argument for or against.. I personally wouls not have minded 2 instead of 3 with more original molds and less repaints.

I'm not making any arguments, just giving an example.

Repaints are a neccessary evil if you choose to look at them as such. As stated, it's done to recoup costs and get profits. Hasbro themselves have come out saying that they don't expect people to buy every version of the same mold. Me, personally, I've always actually liked them. I see Transformers as war machines and it just makes for them to be "mass produced" in the sense of developing certain.. production models that are effective and efficient. And I'd rather buy a 2nd of a mold I like with a neat new paint scheme than get a new mold that I don't like if I'm the store and have a choice between those two options, but that's just me.

^ good point

In many cases, the repaint is far nicer. Dont get me wrong, I know it's a way for Hasbro to cash in and new molds are always a better idea. But once they spend the time and money to produce one Transformer, they want to get more bang for thier (invested) buck... It's good business. And sometimes the repaint looks MUCH better than the original. IMO.

As much as ROTR Sideswipe is a great figure, I personally think Swerve looks better. It also helps sway my decision knowing I'll be purchasing HA Sideswipe, but anyway...

Look at the amazing amount of paint applied to Metallikato TRU Bludgeon over Wreckage. I gladly traded my Movie 1 for this exclusive... They even painted over the translucent plastic "top-hatch"... A great quality paint job on a figure they already paid for to get designed! It seems cheaper to produce a repaint than a brand new design...

And need I mention last movies Premium line? What an improvement. Premium Deluxe Bumblebee is one of the nicest figures ever produced by Hasbro!

Not to say I wish they painted the original release like the repaint. It would save us all a ton of time and money. But we are consumers. We buy stuff. And if we're uninformed, we'll buy twice as much.

Thats why I LOVE this board! My fellow TFans show me all the figures being produced. And I get an educated decision to buy or not to buy! Thanks TFans!

As far as repaints go, I support them! Cybertron Excellion, Energon Galvatron, Alt Silverstreak the list goes on...

From a company point of view, there are more Transformers on the market. The company that makes them is making more money. And they continue to produce more and more! It's a win win situation for the true fans! Who wants Hasbro to stop making Transformers? Not me! Ha!
