Animated Wheeljack and Perceptor character models.

Recommended Posts

Perceptor is friggin :win

Its good to see Wheeljack again as Wheeljack and not Downshift. But I dunno. I'm not feeling this design so much. Well, I suppose the original didn't give away much about him being a scientist anyway.. but this one definetly looks like he's gonna smack some cons around. Like a Robotic Mr T or something.. ...

No wonder I can't help but make a Barret Reference with the guy..

I'm not getting this complaint at all?

The original Wheeljack was totally stocky!! His voice was also much more lumberjack than it was science nerd.... :shrug

I think both of these guys look AMAZINGLY Geewunn akur8. As LMH has said - TFA is giving us the G1 CARTOON Characters we all remember as opposed to the G1 Cartoon as it actually was.

What I mean was his original design and alt mode didn't give away the fact that he was actually a scientist.. ya know. In in Animated they try to make the characters look and feel their roles.. Prime = Superman .. Prowl is all skinny and such.. he's a ninja.. Bulkhead is insanely beefy with a tiny ass head, and he's the strong man.. you catch my drift? This Wheeljack, and the Wheeljacks before him give no such inclinations to his personality. G1 Perceptor turns into a microscope.. makes him a scientist.. G1 Ratchet turns into an ambulence - He's a Doctor..

Animated Wheeljack looks like he's gonna say "Quiet foo!" and throw a grenade down someone's throat.. it's just how he's drawn. He doesn't LOOK at all like he's got a brilliant mind tucked away (but neither did Rhinox for that matter...) where as Perceptor looks like he can lift rocks with his mind. And it fits his personality.

And.. thats not so much a complaint, I'm just pointing out the design. They took a bit too much liberty with Wheeljack's G1 design rather than his actual occupation. I have no trouble at all with a Mr T Wheeljack. :tfgrin I think it would be awesome, despite it's probably not going to happen.

What exactly was Wheeljack's occupation in G1? I thought he was pretty much a mechanic / crazy inventor. What "body type" do people like that have?

Really beats the heck out of me.. I always understood him to be the scientist guy until Perceptor came along.. I mean, he did have a lab and it served various plot devices.. but thats also trying to make sense about a show that used magic shrinky.. so I really wouldn't put it past them that they were really thinking..

Maybe TFA Wheeljack is going to be a crazy gungho self made "I make things go a'splodey" weapons specialist.. :schin thats kind of in spirit of the original I guess. :shrug

But to each their own

Exactly.

- if you don't like the aesthetic, you're going to be hardpressed to find an Animated figure you'll really love.

Blackarachina, IMO, fits in perfectly with my Classics bots (waiting for a Beast Wars repaint for the BW shelf). I've said it before, I think the Animated distortion/aesthetic is subtle when it comes to fembots. The other thing that really gives her away as an Animated figure is the flat paint finish, and that's minor.

I have four running collections - Movie, Animated, Classics, and Beast Wars and I have a hard time mixing and matching between them because of the aesthetic differences, but I consider myself lucky that I don't prefer any aesthetic over the other - I think they all work equally for the story or era they're trying to represent.

Only three myself (no Animated), but yeah, it's best not to mix and match aesthetics. Cross franchise can work (I have some BW, RiD, and A/E/C mixed in with Classics/Universe), but trying to shove Animated, Movie, Classics, or BW figures in with any of the others creates a mess more then anything else (for the most part).

I did get Animated Jazz to fill in as Classics Jazz, but like John I found he stuck out way to much. So I just got the Universe Legends version instead, and despite the size, I'm just happier :shrug

And I consider the Transformer Fandom as a whole lucky to have such a broad range of options (whereas if you collect something like Masters of the Universe or TMNT your options are severely limited).

Very true. Unfortunately there seems to be a bit of a :animated vs Classics grudge thing going on (which I myself tend to get caught up in). Lets try to like what we like without pissing on anyone else's parade.

to me Wheeljack is the mechanic, perceptor the scientist. or maybe they are both inventors, but one Is more mechanically inclined, one more formula/science type.

Wheeljack is listed in MTMTE as being a Mechanical Engineer. I was a mechanical engineering major, so I can tell you they're no less scientifically inclined. Just more likely to actually build stuff that's immediately practical than your basic theoretical physicist.

well I didn't mean it as a negative commentary on mechanics. I guess I should've said . "wheeljack is the hands-on guy while perceptor is the study a book guy. not that wheeljack can't read or that perceptor can't build. but they tend towards these behaviors and anyway this is just how I see them"

better?

I honestly have to agree that animated bots rarely fit in with those from other franchises. I think Jazz is one of the exceptions, I just figure that everyone got the opportunity to upgrade so he went for something uberstylish and his robot mode came out stylised as a result

Nice pic, but Perceptor was way too uptight to be Adam, and Wheeljack was way too flighty to be Jamie. Facial hair depictions aside, they'd have to be reversed for it to work and still be true to their G1 personas...if that's what they're going for.

You are right. I was strictly looking at their physical appearances. We'll just have to wait and see what their personalities are like.

They're just giving us way tooo much G1 goodness in this show.
