So, is it official? Are we back to Reasonless Fanboy Angst Spewing Season already?

I didn't realize it was ever out of season.

I really do despise what Michael Bay had done with transformers. In the movie, the autobots' alternate forms are everything but a disguise. Instead of being vehicles we all see on the streets everyday, we had things like a gangsta/biker-colored 18-wheeler (without the trailer, of course), a camaro that wasn't even out yet, a pick-up truck that is nothing like the original G1 version and also one most of us probably have never seen in real life, a nissan solstice that was really only put in there for advertising purposes (as were most of the vehicle forms, in fact), a 'cybertronian' jet (which was just an excuse to skimp out on an alt mode. It didn't even look like a jet in the actual movie, without even mentioning the toy). We had a helicopter that seemed to be in the middle-east one day and somehow managed to get to the middle of the U.S. in a half an hour. We had a jet that never seemed to need to refuel. A tank that, even more miraculously than the helicopter, managed to get to the middle of the U.S. in a half hour. Now we're getting pics of vehicles none of us had ever even heard of, and random ones as well, such as Soundwave who is supposed to be a satellite. I mean, yeah the original cassette tape was also a pathetic alt mode, but this really isn't an upgrade. Who would want to be a satellite? I mean, seriously? Is Bay on drugs?

Of course Bay was going to push Chevy vehicles. It let him save close to $3 million on the budget. Otherwise we would have gotten less screen time for the Transformers.

If there is a satellite Transformer in the next movie, I just hope we see he/she/it fire a massive laser from space to the battlefield.

That's an impressive and very specific number. I was curious if you got that from an article somewhere, or where that came from?

Often, in situations like this- companies are glad just to get the free advertising, and wouldn't necessarily be charging to use their vehicles- or do you mean they actually invested 3 mil in the movie to have their vehicles used exclusively? (Which would also be saving 3 mil like you said)

Just curious. Thanks

From Michael Bay's Entertainment Weekly.com interview:

I've had a relationship with GM, so they took me to where they do these cool concept cars. I saw this picture of that Camaro [used in the film], and I'm like, That's the car. It saved me $3 million on my budget, getting all those cars. I don't think you are whoring out the movie, because I think each car kind of fits the character. Maybe not Jazz [the Autobot that's a Pontiac Solstice in the film]. Jazz is the one thing which I was like, ehhh, I wish he was a different car, personally. It's too little. But that's why I did it. It saved me money.

I'm guessing GM let Bay use the new Camaro and such without having him pay licensing fees.

GM also "donated" flood damaged cars that were used in a lot of the scenes as fodder. When they launched cars or smashed them or dropped weights on them, that was GM's doing as well.

And haven't we got over Megatron's jet form? He's an alien, of course it would look different. It was designed to be odd, freakish etc.

I'm tired of hearing complaints about the movie. Sure, it had flaws (MASSIVE flaws), but I enjoyed it as a film. Sometimes I hate being a fan, the rest of the time I loathe it...

Because having a giant Autobot insignia on the side of your trailer is the perfect way to hide from you enemies.

that would be SWEET if he could shot an autobot hundreds of miles away from space! :win
