#3 Couldn't afford them when I was a kid. Now I can. The funny thing, is that they would have been alot cheaper back then.

the classic line takes me back to the 80s and they look great.

because transformers is better than gay gundams nuff said :truthy plus my uncles got me hooked on it

because things like the tf alternity come out and combine 2 of the things i love the most. (tf's and gtr's) i can't seem to get away from tfs no matter how hard i try :tflol

funny you mention number 2 - i started collecting when i gave up drinking...

It's funny some of the comments here mention Transformers as a positive alternative to drinking or drugs. I can't say that transformers keep me from drinking because I stopped drinking 17 years ago. However when a buddy or so sees my collection and make a smart ass comment about the "display case" I ask them 2 questions:

How much do you spend at the bar?

What do you really take with you/get out of it the next day?

Thankfully I do have friends that actually admire the "Case".

I don't drink so is this really my alternative? There are many other things to do besides collect toys in my mid 30's so more or less when I look at my collection Star Wars, a few GI Joes, other anime like (micromen ect...and finally Transformers i thought to my self the other day if I was to grow up and quit buying toys what would I really miss. Transformers! And why?

1) I work on the computer a lot; writing, scoring, photos, art, design, music it goes on and on. So while I wait for sh!t to download or render or what ever I like to have a puzzle something to mess with.

2) Some figures bring me back to when I was a kid; example, Classics Sunstreaker.

3) I guess there is some connection to being into sci fi and technology and toys that are so well engineered.

4) It's an interesting part of my world...my hobby.

5) People collect those lame ass "Dunnies" they do nothing and people pour cash into these. I don't feel so bad any more because my toys are better.

6) [Looking at animated Starscream] eventually I'll make certain transformers into art. Like the "Dunnie" fad I'll strip the figure and paint some cool ass design. Then I show other art snobs that Transformers painted by designers and artists pawn all your frakking designer "Dunnies"

7) I also collect puzzles Rubicks cube like stuff, transformers are no different

8) Some Transformers parts make it into my art via photography.

9) I love robots in general and my stories are about robots and humanity uniting with bots

10) transformer case looks like a work of art!

But ultimately the most interesting side effect I've noticed since collecting transformers or any type of toy collection is this:

11) I have remained young in feeling and surprisingly in physical appearance. I have seen a few other "healthy*" collectors and they too bewilder anyone attempting to guess their age. There is something to be said for feeding that inner child.

It's kinda weird actually that so many people (especially single) accept muddling through their lives getting up in the morning, go to work, somewhere eating is part of the routine and working out then go to a club or bar, hope to get laid with nothing meaningful go home and sleep, then after all is said and done: Repeat.

If you look around at some of your buddies (who don't have any other interests like you) there really isn't much left but empty promises, empty hopes, living through other peoples crap, TV sports for example. And when you meet a eventual girlfriend, stay the night look at the barren walls with a few books on the shelves just to say "Hey I read", it's a little boring.

When it comes to dating and collecting I hope to find someone (I'm attracted to) that also doesn't drink and that like me has more interesting and unique interests as well. I've come to believe that there is a relationship to non drinking and interesting out side hobbies. Humans seem to be naturally addictive beings...i think all of life is.

There is a link between drinking and anti-social characteristics. Every chick I see in the club I run stage and sound for makes a bee-line to the bar. Liquid courage it's called. so I guess a good portion of our society lacks confidence. So the point here is that if you don't drink, you're pretty healthy* in life and you buy toys then you must be a pretty confident person all around...you have to be (confident) to walk up to the Target cash register and the cute girl is swiping your debit card for your new purchase of the animated leader Megs; you're 20-40 years old and have a buying a toy for 8 and below.

(*note: healthy collector being someone who has a life far more important than just collecting toys. Toys are just a small colorful escape when all other priorities are met)

Interesting that so many people say things to the effect of it wasn't for TF's they'd be drunk or stoned all the time. Like those are the only two choices with how to spend your free time! lol

Yeah. I just do both... Never been stoned though. Eh... not missing much

'Cuz they're cheaper than whores.

:shrug depends on the whore...
