Starscream’s Rise in Transformers Movie Sequel

Recommended Posts

Hmmm, quite possibly the jet who identifies himself as Starscream, who Megatron addresses as Starscream, and who Ironhide identifies as Starscream? But no, I agree. If you didn't pay attention to the movie at all you'd have no idea who was who. Bay sure is an idiot, eh?

And the munky could have been called Clyde and no one would have had any idea that it was actually suppose to be Starscream. There certainly wasn't anything in its looks nor its brief time in its supposed character display that could give anyone any idea that it was Starscream. It took forced dialog to tell the watcher 'hey thats Starscream'. There was certainly nothing else about it that could have said it was Starscream.

And I paid plenty of attention to that movie -- several times actually on a download...bay is an idiot.

Perhaps you misunderstood. I meant that EVERY TF fanboard I visited after the movie was oozing with praise and thanks. TFans, TFW2005, Sibertron, The AllSpark, all of them.

Perhaps you misunderstood. Most of the people that dislikes the movie have been chased away from ALL the boards. All thats left is the ones that somehow liked the flick so of course all you will read is praise for it...and all the boards have proof of its purging of that parts of the fandom that disliked the movie. Its all right there. Then again the boards you listed are to some the lowest of the low out there so why shouldn't that be any surprise?

Perhaps you would like to show us a link to this magical message board where the "real" TF fans are hanging out, hating on Bay's movie? You keep talking about "us," as in the "real fans" who apparently all hate the movie. Well who are they? Where are they? TFW2005 does indeed suck when it comes to free speech, I'll give you that. But they were hardly the only board singing praises for the film.

First of all do not assume something and ask me to present proof. That will get you no where with me. I never said nor implied there is a real board out there where those that disliked the movie hang out. Get a grip. And when I say 'us' I mean those of us that did not like the movie. If /you/ chose to read 'real fans' in that, that is your problem not mine. Its a shame I can't take credit for that 'hidden meaning' you contrived but I can't. Sorry to disappoint.

The pro movie crowd has been very tolerant of those who disliked the film. The "hey, if you didn't like it it's cool, would you like to contribute to our discussion of the movie anyway?" attitude has prevailed.

It's been those who disliked the movie who have resorted to name calling and trolling.

LOL what world do you live in? I wanna go there.

And how does that freak bayturd look like the other three pictures? Even the chin with wings on the right fits in better with the two on the left then that pile of rubbish next to it. Can you point out what makes that thing 'Starscream'?

Well lets see....the G1, Armada, and Animated pics are all cartoon renderings of an alien robot that turns into a jet. Furthermore, the Armada and Animated pics are based off of the design of the G1 pic.

But the munky isn't based off anything but something Bay fished out of his toilet.... And several other Decepticons turned into jets as well. Some Autobots did as well so by that thinking, the bayformer could be Powerglide for all we know and it wasn't for the obvious name drop in the dialog as mentioned above we would never have known.

So it's not surprising that a live action version of the same alien robot who turns into a jet would look considerably different from the cartoon design, seeing as the live action version has to take into account mass displacement, aerodynamics, and the fact that an alien being wouldn't necessarily look like a human.

What about Movie Optimus Prime?

As for what makes the movie version "Starscream"....

He's the Decepticon #2

He turns into the top USAF fighter of the day (F-15 in '84, F-22 in '07)

He seeks control of the Decepticons for himself

And.....

Hmmm, quite possibly the jet who identifies himself as Starscream, who Megatron addresses as Starscream, and who Ironhide identifies as Starscream?

Again look at all the other TFs that turn into jets and even a few others that are F22s keeping upgrades in mind. And where in the movie did the munky try to take control of the Decepticons? Where exactly were the 'decepticons' in this movie anyway? I saw thugs and teethy piles of silverware welded in an abstract fashion running around bashing stuff. And again, we have the obvious name placement that without it would have left us clueless as to who the jet thing was really supposed to be.

No disrespect meant here but you failed to keep in mind we are talking 'Starscream' fans here. That is a whole different sub culture in the fandom itself. A lot of us will never get over that monstrosity bay spewed out as 'Starscream'.

No disrespect meant, but that's your problem. If you want to keep a cartoon character that close to heart, it's your business. But don't be surprised, or take it personally, when other people speak an opinion different than yours.

I love my Transformer hobby, but once your hobby becomes a source of frustration, anger, or hate - rather than joy - it's time to take a step back and reevaluate.

I don't take anyones opinion personally until they get personal. And it seems the ones that loved this movie have nothing better to do then to slam the ones who did not giving any reason they can think of the meaner and more cutting the better as to why someone didn't like the movie. If you liked it thats fine. more power to you but for some of us, waiting the 20 years we did to get something a 5 year old could have written better and something that same 5 year old could have designed better and then get slammed by parts of the fandom for it is beyond tolerance. I hope you can understand that. Its not about keeping a cartoon character close to heart. Its about anticipating seeing that character made real and getting garbage on a stick instead. And yes you look at Optimus Prime and how he was made real was great. How come no one can answer clearly why the rest of the characters didn't get the same respect?

Sadly the frustration and anger was instilled in me by other fans long ago...and what that freak idiot bay did was the icing on the cake. And I will not sit here and lurk and not say something when someone has the audacity to insult the original character in a supposed facing against that turd on a stick that dares bear the same name. If you like that thing, more power to you, but understand that there are those of us out here that loathe it and that movie and bay. And there are more then just a couple of us......peace out and enjoy whatever it is you see in it, its not there for others.

1. Being self-righteous on the Internet about a Powerglideing toy line is absurd. 2. Canonizing a certain interpretation of a character from said toy line is absurd. 3. Claiming that everyone who shares your opinion about said character is being persecuted all over the Internet is as insane as those who claim the Earth is flat.

You don't comprehend what you read very well, do you?

But weren't you the first to get personal when you accused your fellow fans of being hooked on something pulled out of a toilet? Before that, no one was talking about any actual people - just fictional robots. So - unless you take things said about fictional robots personally - you did get personal first.

You can interpret my first post as flame-baiting if you want, but all I did was mention that a fictional character known for his cowardice could be expected to run away from another fictional character in fear. Anyone baited by that fails at a sense of perspective.

Now, I understand your frustration with not seeing your favorite character realized the way you wanted, but that's not a good reason to insult people or to accuse others of being intolerant or aggressive towards you...hell, you've got, like, a dozen posts. How would anybody be targeting you in this discussion when, before you showed up and told us how we loved stuff pulled from a toilet, we didn't know you existed?

geez hobbes you're being a lot nicer to ISS than you were to me when I protested

Well, now that I've got a seven hundred million dollar box office take and the best selling DVD of the year on my side, it means I don't have to fight as hard. :tftongue

I never said it was your pile Bay pulled out of the toilet so how did that get personal on you? Bay's redesigns were garbage plain and simple and I simply can not understand why anyone would like them. To each their own. if I must sit and listen to people go on and on about how the turdformers are the best things ever. well then others can listen to what I think of them as well.

I have also never understood how G1 Starscream was considered /such/ a coward. How many times did he go up one on with Prime? How often did he face off with Megatron? Sure the Seeker knew when to tuck tail and beg but there was a method to the madness in an accidental way. He would not be considered the bravest thing looking at it as black and white as it seems many do but would you seriously be brave enough to do some of the things he did? Starscream tricked the most powerful being in the universe and lived to tell about it....is that the act of a coward? (Unicron...ghost in the machine. And no Galvatron did not kill him at the end of the ep. Go back and watch real close, he was still alive. And had season 4 continued Starscream was slated to make a return back as a main character.)

How have I insulted you? Where have I accused others here of intolerance or aggression? Can you quote me? The only thing I would accuse anyone on this thread of would be bad taste but again to each their own. Now the next time you want to reply to me really stop and think about what you want to say and make sure you have your facts straight before you try and lecture me. I have commented on previous actions and experience in general on the internet as a whole but I have not accused anyone here of doing the same (though I would expect it to be honest, the mainstream of this fandom has always proven itself incredibly predictable). Have I made that easy enough to understand or must I explain further?

Regarding my frustration at not seeing my fav character realized the way I wanted. I was very enthusiastic about change and updating and making it real. I also expected the people in charge of this to have even the more remote sense of the source material they were dealing with. I rather hoped the modernizing and updating on the characters would stay within the lines of common sense. A fair attempt was made with Optimus Prime though his redesign could be picked about in about 3 seconds for the needless kibble and lack of armor for such a creature of war but thats a whole other topic. I welcomed the alternate mode updating with Ironhide and Ratchet. I expected some cohesive upgrading regarding the Decepticons. But what did we get instead? Freak random piles of metal shards with teeth. Teeth? W T F ? You put the new Autobots and the new Aliens side by side and they look nothing at all from being the same 'race'. And yes the Baycons look more likely to belong in an Alien movie installment then in any 'Transformer' movie. There was no consistency, no recognizability in any of the characters. That statement holds true for both sides with the exception of Prime and Bumblebee (though that freaks face is pretty revolting on its own accord), but the 'decepticons' were simply kibbled images from the last few dozen alien sci fi movies thrown together in a pile and animated IMO. And we have a man who couldn't take the subject matter seriously enough to do proper research into it and a man whose ego overrides what little brains he has calling the shots on something he had no business making...and now we have at least one more of these baypukeformer flicks to look at? Jeeze....

Claiming that everyone who shares your opinion about said character is being persecuted all over the Internet is as insane as those who claim the Earth is flat.

The Earth isn't flat? :tfhuh
