Starscream’s Rise in Transformers Movie Sequel

G1 Screamer would run crying from the badass warrior on those covers.

Just thought I'd point that out.

ROFLMAO!!!! Yea G1 Starscream would run crying from laughter over that freak thing Mr.'I'm ignorant MichaelBay' slapped the name 'starscream' to. I can't believe people are still hooked....line and sinker for the slop he pulled out of the toilet and sent to ILM to animate........

Just thought I'd point that out.

You forget that G1 starscream was a giant Beastbox, as most G1 characters are, and that one is a nasty looking alien thing, the other looks like a man in a suit.

Um... why are you pointing it out? You were the first person to post in this thread...

It just seems kind of prick-ish. :tfevil

IMO it really doesn't add anything to a discussion of the comics (and it's just flame bait >_> )

Don't be such a douche. Michael Bay is a very competent director.

The movie is good for what it is.

It may not be G1, like some peeps want it to be, but it's still definitely a solid C+/B. :thumb

(NOTE: a C+/B when compared to other movies... I'm not comparing it to geewun...)

Can't we just discuss movie Starscream without dragging G1 Screamer into it every time!?!

I will say I think the first cover has a nice clean look, but lacks the energy of the second one.

that's why i didn't say anything. didn't feel like taking the bait for once.

even though i despise this character, i will admit that is one helluva good job of drawing him on a comic. capturing detail on him or any other movie TF is not an easy task. just goes to show you how awesome these artists are

Im not being a douche.

Michael Bay walked all over this fandom and wrote checks via his ego and sheer lack of product knowledge that by some sheer stroke of luck his stupidity was able to cash. But the man is scank plain and simple. He bastardized and butchered a good deal of what made Transformers cool and instead, appealed to the lowest common target audience and it actually paid off. How can you call him a good director when crap was so blurry and so close up and the piles of silverware welded together were so much alike and needlessly kibbled you couldn't tell who was doing what to who where and when? How can you call this movie good when there were plot gaps big enough to drive Rodimus, Optimus, Motormaster and Magnus in truck mode side by side through? My god, I have seen MARY SUE fics that were actually better then what Orci and Kurtzman actually pat themselves on the back for. And I LOATHE MARY SUE FICS< AND FANS.

Bay puked all over this one opportunity to make Transformers a true science fiction universe and made it a laugh fest money scam sucker in every seat fiasco in my opinion. And now he has the audacity to think all the fans will welcome him with open arms if he decides to go to this latest botcon? Oh sure you are now going to tell me that an overwhelming majority of the fandom loved the changes and movie. WRONG. Its about 50/50 but you don't hear from the half that loathed what that moron did because all the bayboys chases them away...

That move was trash, the redesigns were TRASH and I am so grateful I don't suffer from 'if its got the name 'transformers' on it I have to have it' syndrome. I waited 20 years to see what? GARBAGE? ANIMATED GARBAGE? GARBAGE WRITING, GARBAGE FX AND GARAGE PRODUCT PLACEMENT? WTF? No way...

I was expecting change in this retake and that was fine. Change made by people with brains is what I was expecting not some morons attempt to try and salvage something in a way that didn't need it the way he thought. Some of the things changed were cool but most were disgusting as far as I and more then the lot of you here it seems want to admit. Of the three biggest Transformers characters in every take on the saga that was in this debacle of a movie only ONE was given some homage WHY. WEREN'T. THE. OTHER. TWO? If soundwave will be in the dreadful second dishing of this slop even he is going ot get some G1 homage WHAT.THE. HELL? Are the Starscream and Megatron fans just there to be butt wipe for that ignorant jerk of a hollywood producer? Do any of you bayfans have ANY idea just how HATED that movie truly is in a bigger part of this fandom then the lot of you think? Do any of you have any idea just how HATED that bastard Bay really is?

I grade that filth on celluloid a fat F by ANY TF universe standards.

Yea...enjoy whatever comic trash is being cranked out to continue this disgrace in the saga of Transformers while some of the fans wake up and realize its OVER and has been for years now. I wanted change and updating but I wanted it done with some brains, not by some moron who couldn't tell a Gobot from a Transformer and couldn't watch 5 minutes of the movie without walking out of the room thereby thinking he was some gift to this 'franchise'. You know that disgust called 'Starscream' for bays film fart is the least selling toy, right? Have you seen what Hasbro has done to try and sell that junk? You all are aware of what Hasbro has said regarding the insult Bay did in more ways then one when he decided to redesign that character like he did, right? But hey, if some of you want to love an ape that is physically too wide in the shoulder regardless that it is a robot to even begin to stand, be my guest. I have higher standards for what I like then that...

Now go ahead and try to defend everyones redesign that came out of that fool directors toilet and how it was the best thing that ever happened in this franchise ... go ahead....lets rock...

You need a reality check. Pronto.

It's Transformers. For what it is, the movie was awesome, and the robots looked wicked, 'Screamer included. And I say that as a 'Screamer fans since I was five. So stuff it.

From what I've seen, the Fandom's reaction was overwhelmingly positive. After the movie debuted all I saw was "Thank you Michael Bay!" posts from here to TW2005 and back again.

I have no Powerglideing clue where you're getting this "Do any of you bayfans have ANY idea just how HATED that movie truly is in a bigger part of this fandom then the lot of you think? Do any of you have any idea just how HATED that bastard Bay really is?" garbage.

If you don't like the movie, cool. Don't insult, demean, and ridicule those who did though (ie, the majority of TF fandom).

No, far from it. I believe you really misunderstood where I was coming from in my last reply. I simply had to get that off my chest. The 'don't be a douche' set me off. I got it off my chest and thats that. No 'reality' check to it. Unless by reality check you mean I should rush out and buy up all the bayformer stuff I can get my hands on?

It's Transformers. For what it is, the movie was awesome, and the robots looked wicked,

Sure they looked great as just generic robots. They looked like total crap as the characters they were supposed to represent. And why is that? Because Michael Bay is an idiot...

'Screamer included. And I say that as a 'Screamer fans since I was five. So stuff it.

Stuff it? LOL Thats cute. And you've been a fan since you were 5. thats nice and here comes the obligitory 'Ive been a fan longer so I know more.' Ok lets play...I've been a TF fan since season 1 of G1 first aired. I was an older teen when it came out. So even if you were 5 in 1985, I win by default cause I was older and could see it with a better understanding then you could perhaps. And where exactly was 'Starscream' in the bayformer flick?

From what I've seen, the Fandom's reaction was overwhelmingly positive. After the movie debuted all I saw was "Thank you Michael Bay!" posts from here to TW2005 and back again.

Of course all you have seen is overwhelmingly good feedback. Why? Because its no secret that TW2005 removes all negative posts...and restricts what you can and how you can say it. Of course most of what you will hear there will be good. That board sucks as far as free speech go. And of course you will see nothing but good at the official movie site board because all that did not like the movie were removed from the board. Thats blatantly obvious there. So sure, all you see is all good. Instead of fans continuing to rant on and on about how good the flick was...maybe continuing to convince themselves deep down that it was, those that didn't like it have better things to do and moved on. Those of 'us' are simply tired or always hearing the same insults over and over as to why 'we' don't like it. And its funny too. Most of all the good FB to that jerk in hollywood you read on all the boards is usually by the same small group of people.....

I have no Powerglideing clue where you're getting this "Do any of you bayfans have ANY idea just how HATED that movie truly is in a bigger part of this fandom then the lot of you think? Do any of you have any idea just how HATED that bastard Bay really is?" garbage.

Read above.

If you don't like the movie, cool. Don't insult, demean, and ridicule those who did though (ie, the majority of TF fandom).

And when those that did like this movie can take the same advice you just gave me perhaps both sides can finally stop going on about it.... what a concept eh? You have given advice that EVERYONE needs to take, not just on 'side'. Bet you never thought of that did you? Mmmm no of course not.

starscreamsequall2.png

And how does that freak bayturd look like the other three pictures? Even the chin with wings on the right fits in better with the two on the left then that pile of rubbish next to it. Can you point out what makes that thing 'Starscream'? And if you didn't know its name was 'Starscream' how would you be able to tell thats who its supposed to represent??

G1 Screamer would run crying from the badass warrior on those covers.

IMO it really doesn't add anything to a discussion of the comics (and it's just flame bait >_> )

In all honesty, I didn't think anyone still cared enough to hate Movie Starscream with the kind of passion being displayed in this thread.

I thought we'd all realized that Animated Starscream showed us that G1 fans can still get their proper homages, even after Bay's movie and we'd all get to like what we like without turning it into a "thing". My post was just a way of saying the guy on these covers looks like a scary, monstrous warrior and that I think that's cool. I really wasn't trying to start anything with anybody. Not even Atmo. I swear.

Then you admit that you overreacted? If that's the case, then apologize. No shame in that.

Sure they looked great as just generic robots. They looked like total crap as the characters they were supposed to represent. And why is that? Because Michael Bay is an idiot...

No, Michael Bay was smart enough to realize that designs from an 80's Saturday morning toy commercial cartoon don't translate well into a movie intended for audiences in 2007/8. Do you have any idea how ridiculous the 80's designs would have looked transplanted into a live-action movie?

As for Starscream's design, there are two reasons he didn't resemble his G1 self in the same way Prime did; mass displacement and aerodynamics.

If you look at the CGI models, all the robot "bits" fit into the vehicle mode. So essentially the robot and the vehicle have more or less the same mass.

If Starscream was given a more "G1-like" design he would have been huge, due to the size of the F-22.

Furthermore, Starscream's movie design was conceived with aerodynamics in mind. You know that whole "surfing on jets above the city" scene? Bay actually wanted the aerodynamics for scenes like that to be as real as you can get. So they designed Starscream as aerodynamically correct as possible. Simply put, G1 'Screamer wouldn't be able to do what Movie 'Screamer did.

Stuff it? LOL Thats cute.

Glad you found it amusing.

And you've been a fan since you were 5. thats nice and here comes the obligitory 'Ive been a fan longer so I know more.'

I never meant that. All I meant was that as someone who's been a fan of the character for 15 years his depiction in the movie didn't bother me.

Ok lets play...I've been a TF fan since season 1 of G1 first aired. I was an older teen when it came out. So even if you were 5 in 1985, I win by default cause I was older and could see it with a better understanding then you could perhaps.

Better understanding? Dude, it was a Saturday morning cartoon show. Go back and re-watch some G1 episodes. I love it as much as the next fan, but lets not kid ourselves. The writing was meant to appeal to children 10 and younger.

It didn't amount to anything more then the good Autobots foiling the evil Decepticons' evil plan on a weekly basis. Every now and then 'Screamer would try to overthrow Megs and fail.

There was little to no character development, and the plots were simple, simple enough for a five year old to grasp.

Again, I love it. But lets not kid ourselves, m'kay?

And where exactly was 'Starscream' in the bayformer flick?

Hmmm, quite possibly the jet who identifies himself as Starscream, who Megatron addresses as Starscream, and who Ironhide identifies as Starscream?

But no, I agree. If you didn't pay attention to the movie at all you'd have no idea who was who. Bay sure is an idiot, eh?

Of course all you have seen is overwhelmingly good feedback. Why? Because its no secret that TW2005 removes all negative posts...and restricts what you can and how you can say it. Most of all the good FB to that jerk in hollywood you read on all the boards is usually by the same small group of people.....

Perhaps you misunderstood. I meant that EVERY TF fanboard I visited after the movie was oozing with praise and thanks. TFans, TFW2005, Sibertron, The AllSpark, all of them.

Perhaps you would like to show us a link to this magical message board where the "real" TF fans are hanging out, hating on Bay's movie? You keep talking about "us," as in the "real fans" who apparently all hate the movie. Well who are they? Where are they? TFW2005 does indeed suck when it comes to free speech, I'll give you that. But they were hardly the only board singing praises for the film.

And when those that did like this movie can take the same advice you just gave me perhaps both sides can finally stop going on about it.... what a concept eh? You have given advice that EVERYONE needs to take, not just on 'side'. Bet you never thought of that did you? Mmmm no of course not.

The pro movie crowd has been very tolerant of those who disliked the film. The "hey, if you didn't like it it's cool, would you like to contribute to our discussion of the movie anyway?" attitude has prevailed.

It's been those who disliked the movie who have resorted to name calling and trolling.

starscreamsequall2.png

And how does that freak bayturd look like the other three pictures? Even the chin with wings on the right fits in better with the two on the left then that pile of rubbish next to it. Can you point out what makes that thing 'Starscream'?

Well lets see....the G1, Armada, and Animated pics are all cartoon renderings of an alien robot that turns into a jet. Furthermore, the Armada and Animated pics are based off of the design of the G1 pic.

So it's not surprising that a live action version of the same alien robot who turns into a jet would look considerably different from the cartoon design, seeing as the live action version has to take into account mass displacement, aerodynamics, and the fact that an alien being wouldn't necessarily look like a human.

As for what makes the movie version "Starscream"....

He's the Decepticon #2

He turns into the top USAF fighter of the day (F-15 in '84, F-22 in '07)

He seeks control of the Decepticons for himself

And.....

Hmmm, quite possibly the jet who identifies himself as Starscream, who Megatron addresses as Starscream, and who Ironhide identifies as Starscream?

Can we just have a ban on all ZOMG BAY IS EVIL AND RAPED OUR CHILDHOOD posts? They've gotten old by now...

G1 Screamer would run crying from the badass warrior on those covers.Just thought I'd point that out.

No disrespect meant here but you failed to keep in mind we are talking 'Starscream' fans here. That is a whole different sub culture in the fandom itself. A lot of us will never get over that monstrosity bay spewed out as 'Starscream'. And to some of us, all the animated chin with wings showed was its over....Now granted the animated SS looks better then the munky but barely . . . that whole teen titan meets johnny bravo mixed together in an acid trip animation is a real turn off for some of us. And its just another slap in an already open gash from that jerk bay and his stupidity . . . put the animated stories in book form and I will be right there. Force me to look at someones misguided idea of 'art' and I have no use for it. But thats just my opinion there. It is not shared by others but it doesn't stand alone either. Now regarding that that scary 'warrior' on the cover of the latest bayformer comic? Yea it looks ok..until I remind myself that is suppose to be 'Starscream' and then its like W. T. F.???? Just doesn't work for me (and I know for others as well) :tdown Call that thing anything you want, even call it late for dinner and thats fine..call it Starscream and now its just ignorant in my eyes.
No, Michael Bay was smart enough to realize that designs from an 80's Saturday morning toy commercial cartoon don't translate well into a movie intended for audiences in 2007/8. Do you have any idea how ridiculous the 80's designs would have looked transplanted into a live-action movie?
It carried over well for Optimus Prime. That is the flaw in your otherwise rather sensible argument there. Sure those designs won't carry well from the 80s toy commercial to the '00s car commercial but they did it with Prime. Why couldn't they have done the same for Starscream and Megatron? They plan on doing something G1ish for Soundwave, why couldn't they have done it for Starscream and Megatron? If nothing else it clearly shows just how little Bay truly knows about Transformers. Had he taken the time to properly educate himself he would have understood that the Decepticons are more popular then the Autobots and he was destroying visually 2 of the top 3 characters in the entire franchise. But since it was just a product placement car commercial for the '00s it really didn't matter now did it?
As for Starscream's design, there are two reasons he didn't resemble his G1 self in the same way Prime did; mass displacement and aerodynamics. If you look at the CGI models, all the robot "bits" fit into the vehicle mode. So essentially the robot and the vehicle have more or less the same mass. How can you call that clumsy kibbled brick looking form more aerodynamic? The movie ape was designed like that because Bay refused to use mass shifting and the F22 had to transform sideways to stay the same size as the rest. Now where the fingers on fingers and teeth and exposed circuitry came from in what was suppose to be a war machine is beyond me. Bay did not know the character enough to even begin to stay between the lines. As others have said; if Starscream couldn't be done right, he shouldn't have been in the movie to begin with. I agree with that totally. I would rather have not had his name in any form in that supposed movie then the slop we got instead no matter what the excuse was for why the characters form was DESTROYED.
I never meant that. All I meant was that as someone who's been a fan of the character for 15 years his depiction in the movie didn't bother me.
Of course it won't if all you care about is the fighting robot and not the character. ;)
No lets not kid ourselves. The show was meant for kids and to push cartoon and yet it drew an adult following for the accidental story it told and the glimpses of potential it showed of what it could be. That is something a child would not understand. Of course to a child there was no character development is an expected opinion. After all it was the same children who could not understand animation errors from the 'reality' of the story and took it all as fact...sure lets not kid ourselves here.
