Sari's Totally a Robot!

Baltar's Cylon detector

worked just fine, he just gave everyone a false negative after Boomer

but seriously this should not be in this thread, you can start new ones too :)

on-topic: Hobbes, this is my only real issue about this discussion -- people arguing on the basis of pure supposition, as though there's some logical basis for what they're saying. I would just like to see more of "I know I'm just pulling this out of my ass, but..." and less "OMG she's totally a robot I just know it".

And I mean that in a general sense, not you specifically. You're smart and stuff. :)

It all starts by assuming the conclusion, though. Like, "okay, how could this work out?" The burden isn't on me to prove anything, since the show itself sets Sari up as a human character. To claim that she actually *isn't* a human character requires evidence. I only suggested "clone" because it fits best with what we know to be true so far. I'm not married to the idea.

I'm also assuming that the writers don't pull out some retcon / deus ex machina and say "oh by the way, we failed to mention X Y Z that totally explains why she's a robot." Partially because that's a bullshot way to tell a story, but also because there really isn't evidence of her being robotic at all. The presence of mystery in her life (which I do not dispute) means nothing by itself.

P.S. no spark = not a living creature, that's why I keep going on about that. Sumdac's robots are drones. It could even be argued that Soundwave was/is nothing more than a more sentient drone, given his voice and lack of emotion and all (yes that's the G1 character, but I'm just thinking of how they repurpose G1 character traits for the show).

Soundwave was given a spark by Sari's key, just as the Dinobots were. You could argue that point by saying that the series never directly stated this, but if the Dinobots DO specifically have sparks because of the key, then it's safe to assume the key had the same effect on Soundwave, another sentient transforming robot.

How does the head stay active without access to the spark. I mean it's all nice to say it does, but it don't make much sense does it?

I wouldn't go so far as to say my conclusions are illogical, but I was always assuming that the theorizing in this thread, from both robot and non-robot supporters, was ass-pulling and that everyone knew it.

Maybe the spark sends out a...beam thing...The same way all the Battle Droids in Phantom Menace got powered by that weird space station?

See? Kinda logical, but totally pulled outta my ass. Also, I'm overusing spoiler tags today. Just for fun.

ok im gonna say again i don think sari is a robot because 1 the allspark showed a DNA strand 4 sum reasion 2 it also showed possibly her mother im pretty sure robots dont have mothers so who was she then?

We all agree she has DNA.

I don't recall this...when did it happen?

I'd just like to point out that I started this whole thread based on this "I pulled it out of my ass" argument. I'm surprised honestly that it is still going strong, and has been spawned on other forums.

Actually, I was looking into it, an the theory is actually almost a month older than this thread on other forums: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=161474

wow... I didn't even know.

and here I thought my wild theory was original :tfmad

I think it's questionable to claim that the key always has the same effect on all machines, unless there's a sentient toilet sitting around somewhere as a result of Sari's actions.

I'm not saying that I doubt that Soundwave has a spark... I just had the thought that the writers might have been using a lack of spark-ness to explain his trademark voice and lack of emotion. Just a little thought that seemed cool to me. :)
