Sari's Totally a Robot!

WTF is

Cylon

at first place, if I may know?

A race of robots bent on eliminating humanity from the Battlestar Galactica story.

In the new series they introduced Cylons that look like humans along with the traditional robo-soldier models. The Cylons that look like humans are sometimes described as techno-organic, but I always saw them as "Terminator-like" rather then true techno-organic beings.

Not to get off on a huge tangent, but the humanoid Cylons are fully organic.

Anyway, for those of you who think that "technorganic = robot", is that the way you felt about Beast Machines?

It's the way I felt about Beast Wars for sure. I only had a problem with it in Beast Machines when they tried to rewrite the origins of Cybertron as an organic planet and then convert the whole planet of Cybertron to a technorganic state.

Beast Wars dudes weren't technorganic, though. My point is that a lot of people called BS during Beast Machines because the Maximals looked nothing like robots. Knowing that they had nanotechnology didn't change anyone's mind either. I think we're playing a bit fast and loose with the term "robot" -- again, because the conclusion is being assumed.

:tflaugh Nice.

What's the difference?

Well, I wasn't one of them. I had my issues with Beast Machines, but I thought they looked like robots.

What, are we gonna split hairs here? Say this to any normal* person: "These guys said Sari is a robot, but it turned out she was technorganic, and they're still trying to act like they called it." and see what kinda look they give you.

I've always understood them to be "virtually" indistinguishable from humans and truly organic, for a few reasons:

1) Dr. Baltar had to develop an extremely complicated detection system for the humanoid Cylon model that involved some sort of radiation. If the humanoid Cylons were simple T-101-style robots, a scalpel would be a much more efficient detector, as would a simple bathroom scale.

2) Biological internal workings are not all that unfeasible when you consider that a Raider is a bio-mechanical entity. Hard on the outside, squishy on the inside, so to speak.

3) Hybrids (the Cylons that control basestars) are squishy outside and hard inside. If the Humanoid models are also this way, why call the hybrid a "hybrid." Also, Ronald Moore has said that Hybrids should be viewed as an intermediate step between the evolution of mechanical and humanoid Cylons.

But yeah, if Sumdac turns out to have built, designed, or constructed Sari in any way that is normally associated with robots/cyborgs, then:

OMG!! SARI IS TOTALLY A ROBOT!!!!

I'd just like to toss in some geekiness... Cylons weren't originally robots... they just became robots. Kinda like the Go-bots.

Technorganic refers to a perfect blend of organics and technology. The Maximals in Beast Machines were technorganic. The Transformers in Beast Wars were simply technological beings that transformed into replicas of animals. For all intents and purposes, they can be classified as the same type of machine was the G1 Transformers.

You're forgetting about the spines that light up, and the plug that Athena jacked into her arm.

Oh, I thought you knew. Beast Wars guys were regular metallic robots with animal tissue shells (At least at first before they got all Transmetal'd). Beast Machines guys were an amalgam of nanotechnology and organic tissue. Their systems were integrated at the cellular level, so if you cut Optimus Primal open he'd have guts and stuff.

I think we're playing a bit fast and loose with the term "robot" -- again, because the conclusion is being assumed.

Well, it does matter. To use the example of the giant nano-roach from the first episode, those things started out as regular old bugs, with mommy bugs and daddy bugs. They were implanted with teeny robot things that mutated them into icky monster things. If Sari is *that*, then she started off as a human baby and was implanted with nanobots. Which would make her a human with tiny robots inside her.

no I'm not :tflaugh

but this is indeed a discussion for another thread

No, the characters in Beast Wars had organic parts mixed in with their technology - they ate organic food, they needed to breathe and, most importantly, if they weren't organic in Beast Wars, then the whole story point of Megatron hating the organics of his Transmetal 2 body in Beast Machines is moot.
