I still cant work out how you do these things.

Do you just take a TF, strip it down to its skeleton then add a plastic model kit in place of the old alt mode parts? What about new joints and stuff like that? Is it really as simple as that or am i missing something cos id love to learn how to do this.

It came with the model kit as an optional piece instead of the back window. The model kit is an AMT ERTL Hot Wheels SNAPS - Stock No. 6171 of an 1982 Firebird stamped with 1991 Mattel, Inc. It came in a Value Three Car Model Kit Set with a Porsche 935 Turbo (jazz) and a Lamborghini Diablo (parts). I won it on ebay. If you're comfortable using styrene, some hobby stores sell it in thin strips which you could use to fashion one from scratch. hope that helps

That does help a lot, thanks!

Quick Update at end of first post in thread!

Sonray, I don't think there's a conventional guide on how to do "re-shells." this is the 4th one I've started and I've really only finished one completely. when this is done, I'll release all work in progress photos and it'll give you an idea at least how this one went.

and Supreme_Megatron, glad to help out. good luck

thanks guys.

Crap thats awesome!

Although i dont particularly like his box head.

May I ask why you went that direction rather than the type of head that they used for the Alt/Bt version?

(er i mean decepticharge's head of course...)

I think the only reason the G1 dude had a box for a head is because it was all a solid piece with the hood.

Really cool! I woulda started with one of the variants of the Clocker mold, myself, but then again I use Cybertron Swerve as Windcharger, anyway...

Very good. I like the head, as the intention is obviously to base it on the cartoon version of Windcharger.

Very cool, and innovative. I like to resemble the toon versions of characters as well. Good job so far. :thumb

You know what would be an awesome idea? If we did a collaboration one day! Your kitbashing skills and my painting abilities would result in some awesome looking figs.

Another quick update above. I did a little work on the chest area.

Thanks guys for the comments.

Hunter Rose I'm going with the boxy head because it's based on the cartoon version.

Valandar, I like the mold you speak of but it was too small to fit in this model kit. Rodimus was a little beefer and worked better with what I wanted him to look like.

sonray, thanks for the offer. but these things are a little too precious for me and I usually paint them as I go rather than wait until the end. It wouldn't work out anyway. I do need an apprentice though.

mainly I'll just have you go out on beer runs, call off of work for me, and wax my car...my REAL car. nobody touches my toys. :saw

cheers fellas ;)

It's cool. I'm just thinking of robot mode scale alongside Wheeljack and the like.
