And there was much re-jazzing

You heard it here first... BLASTER!!!Kind of funny how he is one of the few original characters that survived the animated movie only to DIE in the live action.

Echoing this sentiment, don't forget, Darius McCrary is a VOICE actor (it isn't like they rotoscoped his face/vocal inflections onto Jazz's) - I'd assume he's talented enough to play a different character, and maybe Bay liked working with him...

Wow, I'm retarded

That makes quite a bit of sense.

Except that he said he was in talks to reprise his role as Jazz.

Don't you just love that smiley? :luv

A lot. :tflaugh

:emo Must you rain on my parade?

I'm just speaking dramatically about all this, not from a fan perspective or anything. (If I were to go that route, I'd start talking about Galvatron.)

Speaking from a non-fan point of view, Galvatron actually makes a little sense, given his history... He'd be a good "replacement" for Megatron: Same personality, but far more potent. As a dramatic device, it works too. How many sequals have used the "he's back and badder than before" plot device? A Blotload, that's how many.

I agree that it could work, but the name change would be retarded and would really be too much of a wink to the audience. Like "hey in case you forgot, these are toys too and we're trying to sell some".

How so? Most people don't even know about Galvatron...

Exactly! That's why Megatron randomly changing his name would be a "WTF" to a general audience.

Simply put, Megatron is the be-all and end-all of TF villains. Why do you think Megatron's always been resurrected in every series rather then being replaced? It's simply good marketing. Megatron's the only recognizable baddie on a large scale.

I disagree. If Megatron is so important than how come 90% of the time, the toys named after him bare no resemblance to him? If anything, Starscream is a more iconic Decepticon than Megatron.

I agree in that I think Starscream was a more memorable character from G1 than Megatron was. But it's ultimately a branding issue. Hasbro brings back "Optimus Prime" and "Megatron" because -- lest we forget -- those are product names. The name sells the toy. (If you don't believe me, ask yourself why you bought Cybertron Megatron. :tflaugh)

Except Cybertron Megatron is awesome.

You have a point.

However, given the crappy editing of the first movie, I don't discount the possibility of Bay including another WTF moment...

I completely disagree. For me, Megatron has always been the most iconic Decepticon. As a kid, I just thought Starscream was annoying.

Among fans, Starscream is well known. Among non-fans, he is the whiny Decepticon. Megatron will always be the leader of the Decepticons because all the world knows him as such.
