TFans' Official 'Transformers Movie' Thread

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking, I wonder if Bay, Murphy etc have seen the original movie or will watch the original to gather ideas etc. I'm looking forward to the new movie and all the hype that comes before it.

Now that we have the official green light for the movie I couldn't help but have a more realistic (and less fan-inspired) think about how it may turn out. I'm sure that the CGI will be legendary regardless but, as several films have shown over the last few years, it takes more than good effects to make a successful movie.

Firstly though, my thoughts turned to the colour schemes for the TFs in the movie. ASSUMING that the G1 Autobots featured more or less resemble their original counterparts, there's no reason what-so-ever that they can't have similar (but updated) alt modes following the same sort of colour scheme.

Decepticons however are a different matter. Assuming there is emphasis on the whole 'robots in disguise' element. in that the TFs are genuinely attempting to camoflage themselves from the native humans, the Deceps would have a hell of a time. Take the seekers for example. I'm no expert, but I can't imagine those colour schemes on any military planes being standard. Therefore, will we see the seeker trio as 3 plain grey jets (maybe with coloured accents to distinguish them) with the more familiar colours revealed when they transform? And what of Megs? Maybe a grey tank, or a desert colour scheme revealing grey bot parts upon transform?

As for the film in general, I can't help but be concerned. Films such as Thunderbirds and lost in space show just how bad a film can be despite the fact it is a revamp of a popular series. I can't help but feel that the film will end up being either a special-effects driven nightmare or childish cop-out, when it could be so much more.

Obviously one of the main aspects the studio will take into consideration is merchandising (i.e. toys) to rake in the $$, for which the target audience will be us. (I mean kids :thumb ) But to be honest, cars turning into giant robots with guns is enough to appeal to kids anyway, (it did to us when we were younger right) so why dumb down the plot and make it a childs film rather than one aimed at all audiences?

Take the Simpsons for example. Primarily intended as a kids cartoon. The series has been running for more than 15 years now and is just as, if not more popular with adults. Scripts can be made to work on a dual level so that they are simple enough for kids to understand the plot with the more adult themes going straight over their heads and making it more watchable by a wider audience. The Incredibles also was a Disney Pixar film for kids - but is infinitely enjoyable for adults also. It has themes of death, mid-life crsis, adultery etc etc. And yet is equally enjoyable by all ages.

(Sorry, nearly at the end of my rant/essay)

Bottom line (and point) being that I can see this film being a big let down to all of us, the fans, (the ones who've majorly contributed to keeping the franchise alive all this time) and ending up as either relying on the giant robot/SFX thing to carry a film with juvenile dialogue and plot elements. PLeaaaase Murphy et al don't let that happen. We can all have the best of both worlds. I don't want a fanboy film, I'm all up for new ideas. Just not something that's limited by a studios perception of their target audience which leads to a weak plot, simple dialogue and no characterisation .

Let the flaming begin.

I've thought about realistic paint jobs for the seekers. Yes, they would have pretty bland paint jobs in alt mode; a lot of flat grey. Maybe you could do a "Blue Angels" color scheme.... but how would the Blue Angels feel about that?  :eek A seekers "true colors" would show through in bot mode on parts that are hidden in alt mode, like on their arms or feet or head or whatever.

I'm weary about trying to stay too close to G1 color schemes, sometimes they just aren't do-able. When someone does an Alt. Brawn they have to find some way of making the upper body yellow while keeping the rest of the Jeep green . . . which almost never works. The Reprolabels for Alt. Wheeljack, while looking good on paper perhaps, just don't look like something I'd see in real life. Same with Alt. Miester (Jazz).

So yeah, realistic alt mode paint jobs all around with classic colors showing through in bot mode!  :thumb

i seem to remember when the movie was first announced that they said it was going to be for the fans and not childish as hell.  has/tak's greediness realy worries me when it comes to this movie.  they're going to worry too much about bot design for toys rather than good characters for the movie.  i persoanly think they should do them up just like binalternators.  realy nice g1 homages with a new flavor added to them.  i'm realy getting my hopes up, but i know that they are going to screw this up.

But are the Decepticons really intending to stay hidden? what do they care if a couple of humans discover their true identities?......They're giant robots with technologically advanced weaponry! They're there to plunder earth, the Autobots are there to stop them, and dont want the humans to get involved with their war, so i can understand the autobots attempting to stay hidden.

I was watching "megatron's master plan" the other day and i really want to see the movie incorporate the part where Starscream and the Seekers enter and fly by a skyscraper really fast, causing all the windows to shatter because of the sound :clap

Awsome.......great intro for the decepticons......fighter jet lands in the middle of the street....

if the Seekers are going to have realistic paint-jobs then they better turn into different jets so we can better tell them apart. my personal take would be:

Starscream = FA-22 Raptor

Skywarp = Harrier

Thundercracker = A-10 Warhog.

if the Seekers are going to have realistic paint-jobs then they better turn into different jets so we can better tell them apart.

I have the feeling that we're only going to get Starscream, so it probably won't be a problem.

then how many bots are we getting per side?

The number seven per side has been bandied about, but I don't think it's been cast in stone that there will be "even numbers."  As the Decepticons are supposed to be more powerful war-machines, I bet it works out to be maybe seven Autobots and five Decepticons.  We might get one additional Seeker, but it won't surprise me if he ends up being a helicopter or something.

I like the Idea of Starscream being a F-22 Raptor.  For Soundwave, a helicopter would be cool.  Maybe an AH-64D Apache Longbow. :Dc
