Does packaging ever "seal the deal" for you?

Recommended Posts

I've always wondered if the Japanese packaging is like that due to a lower incidence of shop-lifting over there.

I think it's mostly because of 2 main reasons...

1) Japanese collectors like to keep their toys in their package when they're not playing/handling them - part of this reason is because Japan is very prone to seismic activities like tremors and quakes.

2) Space is a precious commodity in your typical small and pokey Japanese home, hence the smaller packaging. Hasbro packaging seems to be storing a lot of air.

And I remember when Hasbro said they couldn't re-release Fort Max because the box would be too big.

That's why I primaril buy Japanese. The packaging is generally well engough designed and built to put the toy back in later.

I didn't knew that. That's a good reason for me to buy them, even if they're expensive. I like to keep the boxes and "repackage" them.

The best packaging IMO is the Takara and Hasbro Reissues. Especially the Takara's with the opening book style.

Oops, I really didn't clarify my thought very well - I agree with your reasons why Takara actually uses collector-friendly packaging. What I meant to say was something along the lines of "I wonder if the Japanese can get away with using such easily opened/resealable packaging is due to a lower incidence of shoplifting?"

If you've ever been to a Japanese toy store, there's hardly enough room to breathe, much less stuff something in your shirt.

No not really.

I have kept alt/commemorative/leader class boxes for possible resale but other that that it all gets tossed.

Well I almost always try to open US toys because Hasbro makes such weird boxes where storage is not easy. My favorite packaging has to be the Mircon Legend Micron packs.

Normally NO,but ONLY T!taniums and Alternator drove me to save their packaging, more so T!ts due to each figure had a custom box exterior.
