Bay To Throw Fanboys Off Real "Transformers 2" Scent

Recommended Posts

1) This is a pretty good idea. It will keep the movie mysterious right up until the release.

2) This is very frustrating. We won't know what to expect right up until the release.

3) I'd be willing to bet money that one "rumor" will involve Optimus Prime's death.

Maybe some of the people in this thread can help me out. I don't see how, "I'm going to have people leak false info to keep you guessing because, as a filmmaker, I want what really happens in my movie to be a surprise for the audience" translates to, "I'm actively trying to enrage fans with childish games."

Anyone?

Well lets put it this way. Lets say a certain character is leaked that will be in the movie. You Hobbes get excited because you happen to think that it would be cool to see that character on screen. You are all supportive of the movie and Bay and stuff. But then later Bay says "Ha! suckers! This character is not in the movie! Your a bunch of morons!" Now I would imagine as a fan who is supportive would feel deceived. Further giving amo to the Bay haters against him.

So if false names, designs, story bits etc are leaked, do you think that will help or cause more damage in the fans.

What he needs to be sure is that no news are leaked if he wants to keep it private. Not be stiking a stick in a bees nest.

Except that Bay has responsibly given us all a warning. Now that I've got the warning, taking anything with more than a grain of salt is my own burden to bear, right?

Yes, but again if the false news actually sounded cool in what we each personally like or want in the movie, as a fan it will be a certain degree of a let down if it doesn't happen. Especially if the news does not seem to be outrageous. Why try to devide the fans in determining what is true and what is not?

I just think he already has proven that he made a good movie for TF's. He should be above that, just tighten up security for leaks, if he wants to "wow" us more at the theatres.

Meh, I think the fans do a fine job of building themselves up and inevitably being let down because of their unrealistic expectations as it is.

That is true.

Bay's not causing any new problems. I really don't think this is the tragedy it's being made out to be.

It doesn't help. Maybe he should focus in making the movie, and not contribute to internet drama.

:roll

Someone wake me when the next movie comes out...

:zzz

If you seriously, truly think Bay can keep a cast, crew, extras, and witnesses of HUNDREDS of random people, quiet from leaks, you're bring naive.

It is better to feed the masses with a Blotload of false information for favor of entertaining them down the road than to try to keep a lid on things which would be literally impossible for one man to do. If he doesn't, then his work will inevitably leak out and people will wind up spoiling the work for themselves. As an artist, he isn't keen on spoiling his work and the ideas of him and his people simply because impatient kids on the internet try to find out if Hot Rod is going to be in this and if he winds up making Prime die or whatever.

Honestly, the real thing's gonna come out even with this strategem. Too many people these days don't wanna savor a thing, they want it now, now, now. It's wonderfully childish, but it's today's society. With all this stuff coming out, you're bound to have your imagination go wild, which oughtta spark your need to see the movie, which oughtta get you in the theatres, which oughtta give Bay the end result he's after here. As Hobbes said, if you're let down because you built it up for yourself, then that's not on Bay, now is it?

well its not that hes said "sorry guys, no leaks on TF2" is it? What he has said is hes going to "screw" people over which when you consider the people he wants to screw over are fans of the franchise shows his level of class and arrogance. He thinks the sun shines out of his own ass and acted like a total tool when he was crying over release formats of the movie. He soon recanted that when he realised that his childish rants carry no weight whatsoever and started the brown nose shuffle, hes lucky no one took exception to his comments, he doesnt even have the courage of his "convictions".

Me, I couldnt give a crap about the movie, past or present, I didnt read any leaks or care in the slightest what information leaks out.

But he didn't say "screw over" he said "screw with". As in, "mess with", "confuse", or "play with". Like you do with your friends. He can't STOP leaks, so he can't say, "sorry, no leaks". Instead, he's saying, "I'm going to do my best to keep you from knowing what is a genuine leak and which is something we made up so that you're surprised when you're in the theater."

And the response is largely, "What? He wants us to be surprised in the theater? What a jerkoff. What kind of filmmaker wants his audience to experience shock and surprise while watching the movie!?" I don't understand that.

His feelings on format are irrelevant to what he's said now.

:lol :rofl :lol

Seriously?

I think it's great he's doing this - It keeps things interesting IMO.

Honestly I think anyone who is going to get worked up over this deserves it.

There's no need for this. By default, the second movie has to be better than the first one; not only for his own reputation but for overall movie profits.

Also, do early leaks really matter? As the release date approaches, the movie trailers are going to give away a lot stuff anyway. What's wrong with a small group of people knowing a few pieces of information?

OH NO!!!

How will I be able to tell which of the multitude of sh-tty designs are real?

Oh lord, Bay has no idea what kind of sleeping dragon he is poking with a stick. Everyone better brace themselves because this has the potential to drag the fandom through Hell and back.

Shyeah.. I stopped caring a while back.

It doesn't. The first part itself isn't a bad thing. Matrix 2 had fake script pages floating around. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been done more often in hollywood with movies. I mean they already come up with fake titles to try to throw off film thieves or people sneaking unauthorized pre-screenings.

I do think Bay has pretty much established the second part independently of the first, though. Obsessed fans were idiots to make it that personal. But Bay seems like just the sort who's more likely to prod back rather than just ignoring it.

Fans who don't like Bay's direction aren't doing themselves any favors if they're still gonna pay money just to go see it anyways. And I'm not sure how this really helps fans who do want to see it. Not all of them will have your fortitude for remembering it's all misdirection. Some won't even hear this warning of his and the rest will just get angsty.
