Painting EMERGENCY!

Recommended Posts

I ended up getting the TurtleWax liquid clay thing..I couldn't find the actual clay, but this says it's the same thing..Should that work ok?

I can't say. Never really heard of a "liquid" clay unless it's just a scrub compound. When using a scrub compound, it's important to know whether it's been waxed and how often. If it's waxed twice a year and it's last wax job was some time ago, the scrub will work. If it's been recently waxed, it may cause clouding. This looks real crappy on black.

I'm thinking I'm going to find out the hard way huh?

If the car's paintjob is still shiny and all else fails, Acetone works. I removed the overspray from my giant TF symbol I painted on my hood (from the edges of my car and the door of my girlfriend's, lol!) with it and none of the original paint came off. You'd have to rub really really hard in order to eat through the coating. Definately test tho on an inconsicious area.
This stuff says it's good for and designed for over spray--it's specifically marked so on the cover sticker.

You gotta knock the car out first? :rofl ..

Seriously good advice!

Now she's threatening court, and her other idea, is she wants to get her car completely repainted, and me cover charges..Even though you can't specifically see the paint unless you're inches from it..And, of course, a new paint job would cover up all the scratches she's already put into her cars paint..That's convenient.

Ok, I might watch a little too much Judge Alex and Judge Mathis, but I'd say go get some photo evidence now, before she does anything. If you can show you've never used the colour that's gotten on her car you should do alright (at least in a TV courtroom :tflaugh )

Sorry I don't have any ideas for your actual problem. Well I was going to suggest isopropyl on a q-tip. Might work on a transformer if you're careful and base coat has cured pretty well. But I have no idea how a car finish would react.

You might have already seen these pages, but anyway:

How to Get Spraypaint off a Car

Clays, Acetone, WD-40, and rubbing alcohol seem to be the only solutions. Paint thinner too, but that's the most risky.

But then there's these guys:

Detail Masters - Overspray repair service

And then there's the third option. That's when she says, "did you get the paint off my car?"

And you reply, "I'm sorry, what?"

And she says, "The paint you got on my car. It better be off or I'm calling a lawyer!"

And you say, "What paint? I don't even know who you are. Please leave me alone before I call a lawyer."

And then you go inside and watch cartoons.

I'm more of the fourth option kinda guy.

That's where she wakes up and goes outside to see her car completely painted in krylon and me inside watching cartoons.

Be very very careful with WD-40, it can have a brake fluid* effect.

*brake fluid will eat the paint off of anything very quickly, contact almost guarantees damage.

Ah...therin lies the true reasoning behind all of this. Worst case scenario, if you do go to court and have to pay for a paint job, it wouldn't be the full cost because of the pre-existing scratches.
